May I ask what vertebrae is the prolapse on?

It is quite near the bottom of the spine.

do you think I will be pushing it by asking for a holiday that is somewhere hot and sunny, a nine hour flight away,with fantastic villa accomodation with own pool- just for convalecence purposes???

A friend of mine had this done last year she was off work for months but is now free from pain she says the relief is wonderful Good luck.

I am so sorry to hear about your back Jeanette and hope that now they know what is causing all your pain they will be able to sort it out. DH also has a prolapsed disc which for the moment he is able to control the symptoms with physio, but I'm sure it will eventually lead to the same thing as you are going through. Just take things as easy as possible and I hope that your appointment comes through asap. Sending you lots of and a great big

Just trying to catch up post-holiday. What a shock for you - I'd be terrified of surgery, too, Netty. I hope you'll get a date very soon - that way you'll have less time to worry beforehand and longer to recuperate before your daughter has her baby.

I know how you feel I have been there, yes pain all day long. I ended up have a fusion on L5 - I had many MRI's the whole 9 yards. It was hell! Hang in there a let your Dr. know how you feel re: pain. If you don't need surgery you may need the help of a pain management center. It will be a hit and miss in the beginning but hang in. Your life style may change and you'll start to ajust. I still have good and bad days. Try aol back pain message boards and any others. They are a great help and you will be talking to people in the same boat and you will learn about meds and different procedures that might be able to help you. Let us know how you are doing we are all friend here and want to give you support. God Bless!

im sorry that you are going through this pain , i suffer from back ache aswell so i know how stressful and tiresome it can be .
also i just wanted to say THANK YOU for putting yourself out when you are in this pain by giving me the advice on Cypress Grove it was much aprecatied (sp) .
i hope you can get it sorted very quickly .

My Appt is for next Tuesday the 15th April, its just a meet with the spinal physiotherapist to see which direction they will be taking
