New to DIS, looking for some January guests to point out perks for visiting this time of year. I was originally planning/saving for a short fall trip. My first time back in over 10 yrs and my kids first trip. Found out my husband's buddy is getting married in disney January 17. Two trips so close together is out of the question. I am feeling a bit bummed as I hate traveling in the winter plus it makes the trip further away. Boo. Help me look on the bright side. What is unique/special about January?

It probably won't be winter in Orlando. It probably won't be brutally hot and humid like other times of the year. Crowds could be lower than peak. Fall, especially during Food & Wine, free dining, Halloween Party, and Xmas party, can get pretty busy. There is special Star Wars stuff going on at DHS in January, that might not be there in the fall. Is it this month? If so, that's this month, not 6+ months from now.

i love walt disney world in January. i love it so much we go every year! we head out in a couple days and i cannot wait. crowds are usually lighter and the weather is usually fabulous. anything other than Cleveland in January is fabulous!

I am so looking for to my trip at the end of this month. It has been warm in Disney. My friend just came back from a Christmas trip and it was above 80 degrees everyday but the crowds were insane.

We arrive Jan. 17.....and I can't wait!
It is my favorite time to visit.

You are arriving the weekend before MLK Monday. Crowds that weekend will be up. Weather is hit or miss but I wouldn't let forecasts this far out freak you out, the predictions are not dependable until closer. Make TS meals and FP+ as soon as possible. If you can't get what you want, take what you can get and then keep checking TS online and thing may free up as you get closer. Good luck, just remember your going to Disney!

1. It's not going to be winter in Orlando ;) You'll very likely still be able to swim, and have nice mild temps! In fact the predicted high for today and the next couple days is 75F. Pretty nice if you ask me! It's also far less rainy than fall which is hurricane season.

2. January is a great time to visit Disney as it's typically not that busy.

Sorry I wasn't clear by Jan 17 I meant Jan 2017 not the 17th. I wish it was that close. Joined up so I could get ideas for how to best plan ahead.

Ahhh Jan 2017. That's good. I was thinking that if you were just starting now for a January 2016 trip, you would be in trouble.
January is one of the slowest months, especially toward the end of the month. Check dates for the marathon and hopefully can avoid that time. End of month is best. Weather averages about 70 F but can be as cold as 50 or as high as 80. It will still be winter in Florida. Just not as cold as in the north. I say that because the first time we went to WDW in January, I understood it would not be snowing but forgot that it still gets dark at 5pm and the trees still loose their leaves.
We love late January because we can tour the parks all day without needing a break like we would in summer weather.
Since it's been 10 years, definitely plan, plan, plan. Learn the new FP+ system. Make ADRs, go at rope drop.

FP+ definitely seems a bit intimidating but this will a very kid centric trip. They are too little for any of the thrill rides/coasters. So by limiting my choices makes it seem a bit easier.

We just came home from our January trip and the weather was AMAZING! It stayed around 65-70 the whole trip. The Christmas decor was still up, everything was just perfect!!!
