Get in Shape & Lose Weight for August 2014 Group

I've been fighting a virus with flu like symptoms for a week and haven't run since last Monday. Today I found out I have Lyme's Disease. I'm crushed because I've worked so hard to get in shape and I feel it slipping away. My body needs a break and I'm afraid it will never get back to where it was. :( Sent from my iPhone using DISBoards

I am so sorry to hear this. :( I hope you and your doctor have a good plan of attack and that you feel like yourself again soon. By way of encouragement, my friend's husband has Lyme's. He's a very athletic man and has been able to maintain his active lifestyle.

Hugs to you.

(My internet connection is so wonky tonight)
So sorry you're going through this. Are you on antibiotics and rest? Just remember that you're giving your body what it needs right now. Rest and try to stick with healthy food. If you're allowed, do some stretching so you don't stiffen up. I know it sucks (I was out of commission for, what, at least a month?) but it will pass and you will eventually feel better. Keep us posted. At least this is happening now and not right before your trip..

I'm on some heavy duty antibiotic. Blood work again in two weeks and then maybe more antibiotics. Definitely better now than on vacation. Thanks for the encouragement.

Thanks, I needed to hear that. I've never felt this awful before. Definitely took health for granted.

:welcome:

Is it too late to join? I just found you and I'm heading to Disney August 16th. I have already been working out (walking and jogging). In a couple weeks, I am going to also add swimming as well. But many of my shorts are a little too tight and I need some motivation so I don't need to go buy new ones! I want to use that money at Disney! I see I should check in on the weekends. What else should I do to feet started with you all? Thanks!

Of course it's not too late. :thumbsup2 We're arriving at DW on the same day.. Yeah! We all have our own goals and diet/workouts. A lot of people have fitbits and are friends with that. The main idea is share your progress and get/give support and motivation. And do things in a healthy way..

Newbie here! so sorry to read of this. We are also going in August and I have been thinking about the walking and the heat and am motivated to get into better condition. Hope you start feeling better DisMom. Looking forward to reading the posts to see who is going where and when in August. :) Gram

Hi! Yep, I've been concerned about the heat too. That thought is a great motivator. Good luck and looking forward to hearing your progress.

Hugs from me and I truly hope you are able to find a balance that you can embrace.

Well got the trailer off the truck with out too much hassle..still feel silly but it is really what DigiMom said "That's what I call"second moments". Those moments where you wish you could just have a few seconds in time back. A few seconds that would make such a huge difference."

I got a workout in last nite and feel much beeter adn realized it had been almost a week that I had workout. I am down another pound so only 30 more to go..lol

One question I have my roooooooolllllll which I believe that no matter how many crunches, side twists or etc I do it will not go away. Do most people who lose weight get the tummy tuck or do wraps or soemthing else??

Boy, do I feel you on this! It's so frustrating because I've worked so hard, and I'm back at my goal weight. But I still have the pooch. Drives me nuts, though I know I should just let it go and be glad I'm healthy.

My daughter and I bought bikes yesterday (she needed an upsize, and I decided to get one). We rode 8+ miles on a local trail today. Um, OUCH! ;)

There's only one thing that has worked for me. At least started working. You're not gonna like it. When I eliminate certain things from my diet, it starts to go away. Here's what I seem to have to cut. It's probably different for everyone.

Meat except lean chicken and fish.
Grains except brown rice and quinoa
Any extra sugar
Coffee
Soda
Alcoholic drinks
Fat except olive oil, avocado, coconut oil (hummus OK)
Pretty much anything packaged

Start morning with hot water with lemon
Breakfast is a fruit smoothie (almond milk)
Eat 4 smaller meals
Eat almost any veggies. I skip tomatoes because I know I'm allergic. Keep glycemic index low.

It's rough. I havent been able to keep it up too long, but I'm only in my second try. The theory is after a few weeks you can add some things back one item at a time. If it bothers your GI system you keep it out.

I'm headed to NYC for the weekend tomorrow. I'm sure I will eat too much of all the wrong things. But I do plan to run in Central Park on Saturday morning, so that sort of makes it okay, right?

Have fun and enjoy!

Countdown: 7 weeks until August 1st

You have set yourselves a difficult task, but you will succeed if you persevere; and you will find a joy in overcoming obstacles. Remember, no effort that we make to attain something beautiful is ever lost.”

I'm off for my biopsy. No exercise for 2-3 days. Not sure why I picked Friday the 13th.. :scared: Wish me luck..

Thinking of you too. Hope you're doing ok...

I was pretty sore over the weekend. But I followed directions with the ice packs and stuff, so I worked through it. I tried to go for a walk 2 days ago with DH and didn't make it too far. Too bouncy.

I found a virus on my laptop that totally and quickly wreaked havok, so that distracted me. I'm to the point where I think I got it off, but my anti virus says it needs to be fixed and it won't update. So tonight I'll need to do a fresh reinstall and see what happens.

I find out the biopsy results today or tomorrow. I totally started stress eating about the last four or five days and decided to just give myself permission to do so. I'll get back to eating and exercise today. I'm still a little sore, but I'll do what I can.
