Since you guys helped so much last time, do any of you have any opinions on Biergarten? We have Candlelight package reserved and are thinking of Biergarten. My DH is nuts about German food. Thanks:wave:

We loved Biergarten! It has great food and great atmosphere.... but I wouldn't consider it a romantic (you mentioned candlelight dinner :) ). There is a nice (but loud) show that takes place in the center of the restaurant and you are typically seated at very long tables right next to other families / guests.

The first time my fiancee and I went, we were seated right next to another family of 5. Not used to this "culture" of sitting next to other guests, we moved over one seat, as to not be so close to the other family. We kind of got a dirty look by the CM, but we didn't think too much of it.

Otherwise, this is definetly one of our Disney Favs! We are going to take our parents in 09/03. But if you're looking for "romantic", you might try something else.

Good luck!

No, I am not thinking of a romantic dinner. Can't be too romantic anyway with 2 kids with you either! I have booked this dinner as part of my Candlelight processional package, but wonder if anyone could tell me if the food is good and if this is a good choice as part of that package.

I always enjoy the food there. I especially like that I get to have every desert :)

The entertainment is fun and I'm sure it'll be decorated beautifully for Christmas.

I knew going in that I would be sitting with people I didn't know, so I started conversing and met couples from different countries and one couple from Minn.

It's a fun family place.

We love the Biergarten, too. The food is great with a wide selection, the entertainment is fun and it's a neat atmosphere. However, I felt that the CP dinner package is not a good deal for Biergarten. The CP package costs 26.99 which includes tip, but not tax. The regular price for dinner is 19.99. It just didn't seem like a good value for CP.

So you have to sit at a table with other people? I'm not as "in" to that as my DH - I don't like Teppanyaki restaurants for that very reason. Hmmm... DH is trying to convince me to try it, but I think that's one more strike against it. I like the idea of the brats (sausages), but I hate saurkraut and regular cabbage and things of that sort. What other foods are served there?
-MrsAPalm
EDIT: Even though I'll eat brats, I don't like just plain pork (just don't like the taste of it) - now I'm getting a little scared of trying this place.

mrsapalm,

You can check Deb Will's website, www.wdwig.com (look up menus) for the Biergarten menu. Rotisserie chicken is listed, but that doesn't give you much of a selection if that's all you like...I agree with KCritter that the CP package doesn't seem to be a good value for this restaurant.

We're hoping to try Biergarten on our upcoming trip--the atmosphere and entertainment should be fun!

Not a fan of the food at Biergarten but the show is good.

the menu here on the Dis is more complete
Biergarten

Edited to add my opinion too LOL

We love Biergarten. It is my 13 DS's favorite restaurant in the world (planet not WDW). DD and I also really enjoy it. DH spent a couple of years in Germany and said the food is good but Americanized (but what food at WDW isn't).

The first tiem we ate there we were seated with a nice family with 2 boys near DS age. The second time we were a party of 8 so we took up the whole table.

The Biergarten was great! One of our best meals in Disney-and we've been to Disney 13 times! The meal was $17.50 (as of July 2001) and it was an all-you-can-eat buffet--definitely a bargain and there was a wide selection of foods!

We always hit Biergarten for a late lunch (I think they serve till 4:00)! It's cheaper and most of the food is the same.

We love the food. I was on 'weight watchers' this past trip and found plenty to eat there - chicken, salads, veggies. I splurged on the apple strudel with vanilla cream sauce - yummy.

I am always a bit uncomfortable with the table-sharing gimmick, but by the end of the meal, we are usually talking up a storm. It helps to drink a couple beers too!

...and anyone else who may know...our family would like to eat at the Biergarten (still not sure though, so we haven' t made a PS), but I know that dinner crowds will most likely be higher during the first week of Dec. due to the CP dinner packages. What are our chances of getting in for a late lunch seating and being able to see the dinner show? Has anyone been able to do this?

Biergarten is one of my favorites primarily because of the community seating. I usually eat there when I'm by myself and enjoy getting accquainted with my fellow diners. Last time I had dinner with a lovely family from Montreal who had a million questions. The daughter, who was about my age, spoke the best English in the family, so she ended up being a pseudo-translator... but it was fun anyhow.
(My family lives a few hours away, so it's nice to eat with a group every now and then.)

another vote for 'Biergarten' We've dined there every trip taken to WDW.
We normally go as an earlier poster suggested as a late lunch. It's one of the few places we feel we really get our moneys worth.
I can't wait to go and have a large Becks with our meal....prost!!

If DH likes German food he will like it. With the authentic atmoshere to go along with it. As others have mentioned, it certainly is not a place to go for a romantic alone time, but if its good German food you are looking for its a great place.

Although when we had a German student with us a number of years ago, we were going to eat there for him. After looking it over he didnt want to because he said its not German food its Bavarian food. He said Americans all thought that all Germans ate this type of food. He was from North Germany. I guess its like a north south thing. - Have fun, its a fun place to eat with authentic German (Barvarian) food.

We love the food at the Biergarten - esp. the desserts. It's DF's favorite place, so we go every trip.

As for sharing a table - it can be as much fun as you make it. We usually chat a little bit with the other people at the table. It's always fun finding out where people are from, where they've been at WDW so far, etc.

One time, we shared a table with a group of women that used WDW as a place for them to get together since they were from all over, although they were all originally from Canada. They were telling us stories about other Girls' Night Out get-togethers, and they were absolutely hilarious. It was the most fun we had on the trip - which is saying a lot!

great place...roast pork is the best....!

100% agreement there! I made the mistake of not getting a lot of it, and as it was close to closing time, there was none when I went back. :(

The food is great (and I'm not a german food fan), the atmosphere is fun, and the band is a great way to occupy the kids while you eat.

We also were not thrilled with the seating, but it ended up being very pleasant. There was an older couple with us and we talked a bit, but didn't feel obligated to keep conversing through the whole meal.

Be warned-we wanted a bottle of spatlese, and didn't bother to ask prices. It was 36 bucks (but I'd get it again-very nice!)

Go for it, you'll be glad you did. Now my husband is agonizing over the next trip. The chicken mole at San Angel is calling him, but he can't bear to take another trip without eating at Biergarten!

It was been a long time since I ate at Biergarten and it was a buffet at the time. I do not like buffets and I had been there when it was a waiter type resturant. When I had been there previously the show was real good, had a lot of people in it and the last time they did not have as many.

I like the Italian resturant although it is expensive.

:bounce:

Have a great time wherever you eat.
