Geriatric MM Warriors!

Good morning, ladies (and Tom). Did you miss me yesterday? I REALLY missed you! I was in court all day and then had a meeting last night. I was too tired to even say goodnight. I am off to an early morning meeting, then court again. I should be in my office sometime this morning and hopefully, I will have time to catch up.

Good Morning Kate ! Hope you have time to stop in later for a little longer.

Morning MM's! All is well, just talked to Ken,I am OFF today, YAY! So other then my appointment at the gym I am going to hang out and be a SLOTH!! Darn no sloth smilies!!:)

Well hello Kate - of COURSE we missed you yesterday! Nobody here to help me harass Lisa about her "grasses", or defend Kathy and I when we decided to "smoke" ours instead! :rotfl: Now Lisa has Nell and Kathy into some weirdo kind of vinegar concoction too...:scared1:

Jocelyn - sorry I missed you last night, but the extra couple hours of sleep felt pretty darn good, I will tell you!

Kathy - OK, heres another freebie for you guys to laugh at me for...COCONUT?? OMG I dont THINK so! EEEWWWWW....tastes like gravel and smells like suntan oil!!

Pam - I am comfy and cozy back on step 1...dont miss a THING about step 2 at all! And you're probably right, I KNOW it here, so am not stressing about the darn 11-20 thing...felt a bit headachey the first couple days, but its gone now and I am on day 8, so about 3 weeks to go before Diane will most likely boot me out of the nest again!:rolleyes1 I know that you are being a sweetheart over on the new forum and trying to help out, but the more I read, the more I just feel that they are all trying to tweak the plan to fit what they feel like doing and eating, and all that does is make me mad, so I just dont post...GL and KW are the pros there now, so let them deal with it I say! I sincerely hope that they all do well and it works for them, but after reading some menus and all, I wont be surprised if it doesnt. Those that keep going on for two weeks, cheating and starting again are just not doing the plan as Diane intended and they are not helping themselves either by starting and stopping...they are just using this plan to go about the same old habits of cheating and not dedicating themselves to truly mastering our Met B and making this a way of LIFE. I for one will never return to my day of carb binges and sugar-fests ever again, and all it does is irritate me to go there and read about theirs! Bad Pony, I know, but it is all about my personal goal, and making sure that this group here continues to prosper and make strides towards their own goals. And more importantly to continue to love and support the most amazing friends I have here!:grouphug:

Barb - I have not shared ALL of my responses from Diane, as she and I have been e-mailing from about the second week that I started MM, but I can definitely tell you that her opinions on the foods, etc are STRONG opinions and based on the fact that she KNOWS what works, and seriously wants us all to succeed! I think that she has been trying to be diplomatic in her responses to some of the others who want to somehow make things work that she does not recommend. She doesnt come right out and say NO, but she tries to gently suggest that YES, some things do fit into the 5x5 rule TECHNICALLY, but that they still dont come recommended due to their ability to cause that insulin spike, hence the term blatant carbs. If I were a betting woman which I am NOT, I would bet she would suggest that you return to step 1 for the 10 days to re-rest your L and P...she uses this suggestion over and over again, especially in situations like yours where you have been BASICALLY on plan , but just steered wrong by a single food. Thats what I would do my friend! RE-rest for 10 days and then go back to what you have been doing minus the addictive little SQUASH family!!

Robin, Love You! After I re-read step2 last night it was pretty obvious that there was no squash on the added veggies list. But in my pea brain, I (unintentionally) had gone ahead and used the net (blatant) carbs rule when I added the devious squashes to my meals. I remember how upset I was when the whole subject came up when someone over at LCF wanted to eat icecream bars and Diane responded with the TECHNICALLY ok 5x5 deal. That it was nowhere in the book really bummed me out and I had decided to go strickly by the book. Well, I'm ready to go back to step1 for 10 days to rest my L&P and get a fresh start, BY THE BOOK.

Enjoy your day off my friend.

I am off to an early morning meeting, then court again. I should be in my office sometime this morning and hopefully, I will have time to catch up.

We really did miss you! I hope your days in court were satisfactory for your clients. We came home to a denial on the claim against the roofer's bond on my MIL's house. My husband thinks he will pay for a new roof for the lady so we can avoid a lawsuit and get over the stress. What a drag!

Barb - I think that is a wise move, and remember that we are not backtracking per se, just stepping back to re-rest and re-evaluate before moving forward! As much as I would like to stay on step 1 forever, I know I can't, so I am already reading and re-reading, and studying Diane's suggestions so that I will be completely ready for step 2 graduation the sequel! I dont feel like I have "failed" or anything, just that I was smart enough to realize I wasnt doing something quite right, so instead of just plowing ahead, I "caught" myself and am making the needed changes! Like I said, I am not in this for the short term, this is going to be my LIFE from this day forward, so anything I can do now to make sure the rest of my life stays on plan, thats what Im going to do! OMG, are we "MARRYING" MM? :lmao::bride::bride::bride: All this "For Life" stuff is giving this "committment-phobe" the jitters!! Better go have some protein and take a deep breath!! :scared1:

:guilty:Put on your MM plan hats. I spend a lot of time last night re-reading step2 and then looking back at what I've been eating. Not only have I had KW pumpkin pie twice, pumpkin soup numerous times but I've had acorn squash 3-4 times :scared1: I don't know what it is with squash and me but it seems I've od'd on the stuff. Always as an 11-20. After Diane's response to Pony, I'm wondering if I've caused my L&P to wake up too suddenly instead of gently as she recommends for step2 :confused3. I think I got suckered into the 5x5 blatant carb response she gave and people at the other board started using as a way to eat whatever they wanted. This might explain my expanding waist. My liver is in high glucose holding mode :sad2: I don't want to bother Diane with this. Would you all put your heads together and based on your experience with Diane responses see if you think I need to do some sort of back to step1 detox?

:guilty::guilty::guilty:

Added: Well, I should have read all the posts before I added my pep talk cause it sounds like you and Robin figured this all out. I will say I was puzzled by Diane's blueberry muffin recipe for Step 1 and we were told it was because you could eat 5 carbs of anything. I never did it, but she said it wouldn't hurt to. If you would feel better about a revisit to Step 1, you probably should listen to your instincts.

Your body is listening to your feelings so cut that out now and be kind to yourself! We determined that Diane does say at the bottom of the arrow chart you can have ANY 5 carbs as a 5 x 5. The reason is that the carb is so slight it won't react. So the pie is ok, as far as we know. I also remember you said your soup is very low carb, so I bet you are ok there too. Diane said to Robin to be careful about counting the carbs, but it sounded to me as though you were very careful. If you do ask Diane make sure and be specific as to the carb count of what you ate. If you are concerned, you should ask Diane; she has been very kind in her responses to us. I tend to suspect you are just going through tranisiton and we go up and down on this plan. Are you drinking enough water and getting your exercise??

Good Morning Lisa! sorry to hear that you have to go for the new roof, but the way I look at it, its going to be easier and probably less costly in the long run...sometimes we just have to make it work and then move on and forget about it! So now Barb, Nell, Pam and I are all back on step 1...you are going to be dragging us all back to step 2 in a couple weeks! Thank God at least you seem to be doing it right!

Diane said that the pumpkin pie as a 5x5 was TECHNICALLY OK, but she didnt recommend it and said to be very careful using it that way. She also said that the winter squash family was on step 3 and to stay away from them until then. I figured since Barb has had so many squash attaacks in these few weeks that I would definitely count them as more than 3 slip-ups and do the 10 day re-rest...dont you agree?

Pony: I had nothing to do with any vinegar! That was Nell, lol! Mine is just a little scoop of powder to feed my aching muscles.

Jocelyn: I don't think I would miss the changing seasons too much if I lived in Hawaii! I love places where you can grow just about any flower because I love to garden. We're not too bonded to lawn anymore. I've been reading a lot about grass-free yards and am starting to introduce the idea to our homeowner's association. Don't know how that will go over, but our city is paying residents $1000 to put in a drought tolerant, grass free landscape. They even give free design counseling. Some of the designs have been gorgeous. I used to love grass, but I love plants more these days! We would turn our back yard into veggie patch if it weren't for Bonnie. She needs a place to run after her ball.

Love you too Lisa  Whenever I start a new WOE, I'm kinda anal about it. It's black and white, no gray areas or I get easily off track. My daughter always tells me I have a need to have all my ducks in a row :donald::donald::donald::donald: I think emotionally I would feel better doing a step1 detox and starting step2 again fresh and by the book. I can't be sure physically that I need it but it can't hurt.
I started my chair dancing and also am doing some recumbent bike. I do need to work on more water though. I drink decaf green tea all day, have decaf coffee and soda at night but only about 32 oz of pure water a day. Something else to start fresh on :)

I'm sorry you have to pay for that roof yourselves.:sad2:

Barb: Dr. Oz said soda can blow up your waist line. Would you consider giving up the soda and drinking your 64 oz. of water, including 2 green teas? Try it for 2 weeks?? Look into how your beverages are made decaf. Sometimes, it's a water process and sometimes it's chemical, so that the decaf is worse than the regular. Just something to look into. I suspect you will have renewed results when you up your water. Sounds like you are doing great with your exercise. I need my D-ribose again in order to step up my treadmill. I used to go easily at a good pace for 45 minutes, but my body is fighting me now. That tells me I need the ribose. Can't hurt anyway! Back on it today! I'm counting it as a 5 x 5 just to be safe. You are an inspiration to us here and I appreciate your commitment level to your health and to us all.:cheer2:

Yes, I think it will be better to be safe than sorry. I was trying to encourage Barb to be kind to herself because I believe our minds have so much to do with how our bodies manifest illness, weight, everything! Her soup I think was less carbs per serving than the pie, but she may have gone wrong with the squash servings. I don't get why sweet potato is ok then; it must be the fiber count? I trust Diane, though, and I for one, have been very black and white about the list. Less variety, but that's been ok for us for now. I stick with what I know! After my worries about Step 2, I lost the 2 lbs again, so I am encouraged and I am smaller again than a couple of weeks ago. It's ever so slow, but I am ok with it, however long it takes - as long as I am awesome by my birthday - just kidding!

I'll have to look into how my tea is made decaf. It's Good Earth brand. I also drink their Red Rooibos tea which is naturally decaf and really like it. I'll cut out the soda along with step1 restart, good idea.
About the D-ribose. I have a SIL that has rhumatoid (sp?) arthritis. Do you think the D-ribose would help her? Have you read that anywhere?

Oh, I think the Good Earth is fine. I'll re-read the pages on D-ribose and see if it mentions the arthritis. I know an anti-inflammatory diet will help a lot.

Barb, I agree that ten days back on step one won't hurt. And it could help, so I'd go for it.

Kate, I hope you get a chance to breathe soon!

Yes, I am responsible for the vinegar extracts. Think about this though... when most people are spending hundreds on supplements, I can grow the herb and spend a dollar on vinegar. I still buy supplements though. Too many herbs to grow!

Lisa, I'm sorry it has come to having to buy a roof. I hope it won't stress your finances too much. I'll pray that the roofing goes well.

Jocelyn and Lisa, I miss the seasons terribly when I don't have them! I lived in Puerto Rico for seven years and I was miserable all of them and homesick every fall. I'm so grateful that I've discovered that Florida has fall also. (finally):banana::banana:

Barb, I love Rooibos tea! Yum! I fix it just like normal tea with a little milk (well half and half now) and sweetener. It's such a comfort food for me. Well drink.

Thanks for all the nice comments about the roof. We'll have our corporate attorney draft a release from future liability. You are all correct, it's better to bite the bullet and get past the stress. I told my husband my health is worth more than money.
