Kathy: Dr. Perricone prefers us not to use flour, although a small amount of whole wheat pasta would probably be ok. His recipes use other grains such as barley, which I love and keep on hand all the time. You can eat it just like rice. Try adding herbs to it to season it. I add it to my ratatouille, along with some tofu to make it a stew. The theory is that foods that turn to sugar quickly in your body cause inflammation and of course mess with your insulin. So sugar, itself, is bad as are starches that turn to sugar. There are so many good foods you can eat and you don't have to measure anything. Good fats such as olive oil and olives are fine. Colorful fruits and vegetables are fine. Oatmeal is good. Cinnamon helps to keep your blood sugar level so cinnamon on oatmeal is great. Spicy food is really good to prevent inflammation. Curry, garlic, etc. Milk turns to sugar in your body. I use almond milk instead. It's delicious. We love his lentil soup with Italian sausage. I use the chicken kind of sausage. You would get a lot out of his books. I first heard of him on Oprah years ago around the same time Dr. Oz was coming on there.

Hi everyone!
I got a call for an interview from the Honda dealership! I tried to call her back, but got her voice-mail. I left a message and I'm going to call first thing in the morning. I'll let you know when I have an interview scheduled, but I'm excited that they called. Nothing from the country school - dam.

I hope that everyone is doing well. I tried some of my work clothes on (wishful thinking) - yikes, I have to lose some weight! I'm going to try a new kettlebell class on Monday night. The place is down the street and I can walk there. It's a new group of classes they're holding at 7 pm. There's an agility class on Tues. & Thurs. nights. I really have to get going on some type of strength training and aerobics. Walking has helped me mentally, but to really help I have to walk everyday for 1-1/2 hrs. like I was doing in the summer. Winter made it hard to be out there for so long. I've got to get a structured plan (and life with a job!)

Yeah, Diane! Let us know when the interview is at the Honda dealership!:banana::banana:

What was the position at the Country Day School? I remember for the person at the front desk it was most imperative that they remember the names and faces of the kids and parents. Multi-tasking was also very necessary. Answering the phone while dispensing a band-aid, lol!

Can't wait to hear what the next step is!

Lisa - The position at the dealership is Executive/Marketing assistant to the owner and the position at the day school was Administrative Assistant - mainly in charge of their database. I really liked that job description and the school sounded great. At this point I don't have the luxury of being choosy. So, wherever I get a job will be the best job ever. :lmao:

Hi everyone!
Can you believe that I haven't heard anything from the car dealership?!
I left a response to her call yesterday. This morning I called and got voicemail again - left a message. At noon I called and got a person who said that she was out to lunch and would have her call me when she got back. I stayed in all day and now it's 5:00 and no response! What the heck?!
I'm just so disgusted - and feeling deeply depressed. If I don't hear anything by tomorrow night I want to call after hours, get the extension of the owner on the company directory and leave a message directly to him. I want to say I understand if I was mistakenly called, but the polite thing to do would be to either have Teresa email me or call and tell me so. What do you all think about that idea? I wanted to do it tonight, but Owen said to give them another day.

It almost seems as though he encourages a type of gluten free diet. Something to think about. Although I do like pasta from time to time. Never a big fan of it so, not too hard to give up.
I think I will have to get one of his books.

Sorry she hasn't called you back yet. I would keep calling her, and if she doesn't call back by say 1pm, call her supervisor. I don't think I'd talk with the owner. They may consider that being overly pushy. Just my opinion.
When Carrie put her name in for the nursing home, she called them 3 times a week for 2 weeks. It all started when the lady never returned her call. Carrie knew they were hiring (she knows someone who works there dayshift) and when the lady stated she'd call in a couple days and didn't, she called her back. When she still didn't call, Carrie called her supervisor. The next day she got her 2nd interview. They hired her on the spot. She now works part-time night shift (3 nights a week, due to school) and makes $13.75/hr!! She now is really thinking of staying in school to get her RN license. Right now she is a CNA and going to school for medical assistant. She loves her job!!
I'll be saying some prayers for you!! Here's a cyber hug for you too:hug:

Just stopping in to see what everyone is up to. Not much going on here other than cold and SNOW!! I am sooo ready for spring!!
My sister was home for the weekend, and she will NEVER fly Delta again. They got stuck in Denver airport for 9 hours on the flight here (they live in Colorado Springs, so this wasn't even a layover) and on the way home, got stuck in Atlanta. She finally got home in Colorado Springs at 11pm Eastern Time.
But had a really nice time visiting with her and her husband.
Ok, enough for now. Need to feed the dogs, and get a bath.
Thinking of revisiting step 1 again. Anyone up for it?

Here is an email I got from Jocelyn:

We finally made it to the Taj Mahal. What a beautiful monument! We spent 4 days in India. It was quite interesting to see so much of it, but not sure we would want to do it again.

We are now on our way to the Maldives. We haven't been there before so a new spot for us. We understand they are beautiful, but will probably be a lot like Hawaii.

We just started the sixth leg of our journey with one more to go after this one. The time has really flown by. The weather and the seas continue to behave. The temperatures are quite hot in this part of the world, but we seem to be able to handle them. I spend quite a bit of time in the pool.

Vanna White was a guest lecturer on this past leg. She is a delightful lady and was very friendly to everyone on the ship. She is not very big at all and works out all the time to stay that way!!

We continue to play a lot of bridge - have our good days and our down days. The past president of ACBL is on this leg. He only has 35,000+ points!! Our friend Jeff who runs the bridge program on the ship has played some team games with him. Jeff is not sure whether the fellow will play any bridge or not. It will be interesting if we get to play against him.

We hope everyone is fine.

Love and Aloha,

Bob and Jocelyn

Sounds like they are having a most lovely time. I'm so relieved to hear they are fine and were out of the way of the tsunami, apparantly.

We had our trip to the oncologist at UCSF today. Very long day and not much to report. There are lymph nodes in Tom's right groin that light up on the scan, as I told you, but they are not very big. They could be 'angry' because of the infection and/or the radiation so the plan is to wait two months, do another scan and see if they have changed in size. If they grow, there will be a biopsy. He gave us referrals for support groups and for compression garment for Tom's poor leg, which is very swollen. I think he'll be fine as soon as he can go back to the massage therapist. He's been waiting for the incision to heal up and it's almost there now.

Diane, I am mulling over the situation with the car dealership woman not calling. I would lean toward mailing a note or dropping off a note in their mail slot to her attention. I would say that I'm sure she is very busy and wouldn't purposely not call you since you know that was her intention unless something got in the way so you just want to let her know you are very interested in the position and are awaiting her call one way or the other. I'm afraid if you tell the owner and something really did get in her way, you've burned your bridges, so to speak. Please try not to be depressed. Have you thought of a temp agency? I know several people who ended up meeting their full time employers by first temping for them. It's a great way to get your toe into businesses and see how you like them, as well. Just a thought.

I have to work tonight so will say good night for now. Kathy: I'm not too excited about Step 1 because of no fruit. I'm going to stick with Dr. Perricone as closely as I can and see if I can get my results again with his program. My doctor was thrilled with my blood pressure yesterday, which never has been high, but still it's really good. 106/68. Maybe I'm hibernating, lol! And I really didn't gain but maybe 5 lbs. if that so I guess I just feel fatter. I'm fatter than I want to be, that's for sure!:confused3

Hi everyone!
So happy to hear Jocelyn and her husband are having such a marvelous trip! Sounds like a dream.

I sent an email to the woman at the dealership and said that I was excited to hear from her and was wondering what the status of my application is. I sent it this morning and haven't heard anything yet.......?! I figured an email would make it easier for her to respond - guess not.

Lisa - the first thing I did before leaving my last job was to apply to the temp agency that had placed me there in the first place. They didn't have any jobs. Since then, I've applied to at least a dozen more. My sister asked the woman at the agency CBS uses and they weren't taking any new applicants. It's hard to believe unless you're living it - but it's really hard to find a job right now. I've applied to everything in a 70 mile radius to my home - from Connecticut to New Jersey and Manhattan (tri-state area). One day this will be over - and I really cannot wait.

I'm glad that Tom is feeling better and that the scan didn't show anything new. :woohoo:

We are expecting 4-6 inches of snow tonight! What can I say? Shoot me now.

I hope everyone is well. Kathy, Kate, Robin? YooHoo!

Hi guys. Not much going on here.
Diane, I hope she answers you soon. Unless she has a legit reason, I feel it is ignorant on her part to not call. Perhaps she's still interviewing? I know Mike put a ton of resume's out before he went with Halliburton. Going with them was almost a no-brainer. They are always looking for CDL drivers, and if you already have the license, they will hire you faster, as they won't have to train you as much. They were very happy in the sense that Mike had Class B license.

Lisa, saying a prayer for Tom. I can only imagine what it must be like to have to wait like that. Please remember to take care of yourself. I remember when I had the girls, they gave me those compression socks. Love them. Still use them if my legs bother me too much.
Not too sure if I'll be doing a MM step 1 or my version of it. I did buy some Dannon Light and Fit vanilla yogurt. I like putting just a bit of granola with dehydrated berries in it for breakfast. I eat about a cup of the yogurt with a couple tablespoons of the granola. I know probably not the best, but it fills me up enough to take some of my vitamins.
I also bought my cottage cheese (love it) so when my yogurt is done, I'll be doing that instead. I may head over to LCF to research the different low carb diets and such. I may take a little off each and make my own. I was there last night just "prowling around" but won't post probably.

It was so nice to hear from Jocelyn and Bob. I can only imagine what it would be like to travel like that. Not sure if I'd like being on the ocean that long though. As much as I love the ocean, it is mostly from the beach area. LOL

Pretty tired tonight, so heading off to bed. Catch up with you all later.

Diane: Bless your heart it sounds like you haven't left a stone unturned. Someday looking back you will know why you had to endure this frustration, but it's really not fair! I think we should start a commune. We could grow our own food and keep each other mightly entertained. If Pam would come back we could probably use her big back yard or Robin's place. Hmmmmm.....

Kathy: Look for items without added sugar. No sugar or honey in the granola and no sugar in the yogurt. We're using plain Greek yogurt with our own berries. It's so rich and creamy. Even the 0%. You'd never believe yogurt could be so creamy! If I'm in an indulgent mood I put a few slices of banana on the bottom, plain yogurt and then top with blueberries. I swear it's as good as a sundae!

Back to work! At least I found 4 examples of condos to show this sweet older couple tomorrow. They are East Indian and want to retire here after living in WI. It's too cold for them over there and their son lives in the Bay area. They were referred to me by a client of mine. Limited budget makes it a challenge, but I found some good examples of homes where they can be close to nice parks to go for evening walks. They want to be safe to walk at night.

Tom and I have to get used to the waiting. He will be like a watched pot waiting to boil for several years. And that is the best scenario. If it never comes back we'll still have to watch him for 5 years. If it does come back, it will be sooner, so I'd just as soon wait, I guess. I have a terrible feeling it's still there and I can't shake it. Probably just over thinking today's appt. I'll get ahold of myself by tomorrow. Ignorance is bliss is a very truthful statement in this case...

My agates finished tumbling today and they are gorgeous! I'll have to shoot some pics soon. We had a blast at the gem and mineral show. I am craving the beach so bad I can hardly stand it. Don't know if I can wait for April 21 when we head to my sister's.

Hi everyone!
I have an interview at the car dealership on Monday at 2 pm!
She called today and didn't mention anything about not getting back to me or anything - just asked if I would be available on Monday for an interview. She was very matter-of-fact, like she never called before. My interview is directly with the owner (not her, thank God). Please keep me in your prayers for the next few days.

Yesterday I applied to a job in a "large catholic church" that is right across the bridge from me. If I don't hear from them, something is really wrong. How many other resumes will they receive that show 12 yrs. of working in a church and I live no more than 15 min. away. Keep your fingers crossed on that one too, please!

We didn't get any snow today - Yay! Rain, but I can deal with that - don't have to shovel it. :)

Lisa - I look forward to your pictures of the agates. I still don't know what they are :confused3.
I pray that as time passes your anxiety will lessen. I'm sure time on the beach will help!! :woohoo:

Kathy - Did you dodge the snow? I hope so.

Kate, Robin, Pam? Stop in and say hi! Miss you all.

Lisa - Thanks for the pics of the agates. They look so interesting. I'm looking forward to seeing yours all polished.

I didn't do anything today. I will see Vinnie tomorrow and that will cheer me up. I am looking forward to my interview on Monday - really I'm looking forward to it being over. ;);)

Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend! :grouphug:

Hi Everyone!
I just watched a very interesting film called "Food Matters". I really recommend it to everyone to try to see. I saw it on Netflix.

Just wanted to check in - I'll talk to you later!

xo

Diane: Good luck today!! Or is it break a leg? Let us know how it went when you get home. I'll be sending you lots of positive vibes at 2 pm!

Thank you for the good wishes, Lisa!
I am back and it went well. He is very nice, although a bit dry. I think it went well, but I don't have the same 'great' feeling that I had after other interviews. Maybe that's a good thing, since I didn't get those other jobs. :)
He said he will make a decision by early next week.

I will let you know as soon as I hear.

Thanks for posting because I was on pins and needles! I hate how employers make everyone wait these days. A bit like waiting for medical results tests, eh?:rolleyes1 I can't wait to hear. Do you have another interview for the church?

Hi Lisa - Yeah, waiting sucks!
I haven't heard anything from the church - I just sent them my resume and hope that it's the most relevant one they receive. If they don't call me, I really wonder what is going on with this whole process.

I feel like glass lately. The smallest infraction can cause me to shatter - it's such a terrible feeling. I'm trying my very best to stay positive - but sometimes...................arghhh!

Wednesday is Owen's 24th birthday. I'm taking him out to lunch. I think his dad is taking him out for dinner. Where does the time go?
