Geriatric mm warriors (12/30/09)

I have been reading and keeping up with everyone. Work has been really busy. So busy that I have been getting up and not dilly-dallying on my lap-top like I usually do in the morning. I am tired when I get home and I have been watching a lot of the Olympics. Since they are winding down, I will be around more.

Hmmmmmmm. I was just wondering what to do with all of the lemons from our lemon tree.... Now I know - I am going to free the juice in ice cubes! I have don't have hundreds but I sure hate to waste them. Thanks for the tip, Lisa!

Kate: I like the little inexpensive citrus juicer from say Walmart for lemons. I bought one for J-P and he loves to make his own oj. You can even freeze some of the lemon rinds and zest them later for recipes. Just put the frozen juice squares in a freezer bag. Maybe measure the liquid content of one cube before hand. I think mine are 2 T so then you know how many to thaw out for a recipe.

J-P's coming home for his birthday! March 10! Yippee!!!!

It was good to see you!

Lisa - I was just doing the same thing. I'm making my shopping list for this afternoon when I go to Mrs. Green's Market. So far I have decided to make a chicken pot pie with a cauliflower crust from http://freetheanimal.com/2009/11/primal-chicken-pot-pie-with-cauliflower-crust.html
and Italian Pork Chops from http://recipes.prevention.com/Recipe/italian-pork-chops.aspx
Tonight it's just steak, green beans and mashed butternut squash. I've discovered Chinese 5 spice and love to add just a touch to the squash. It gives a really nice flavor.

The weather is a lot better today. Things are starting to thaw out slightly. We're still expecting snow showers every day, but nothing big.

Those recipes sound so good! Could you have yams instead of butternut squash? Your're on Step 2, right? I think we can't have butternut squash until Step 3, if I understand the list. I did make soup out of it for the holidays, though. I hope I'm wrong!:confused3

Thanks for the juicer tip! I have to go to Bed, Bath & Beyond later so I will see what they have?

You get see J-P in March and then in April too? Isn't that when you are going to Arizona? You have lots to look forward to!

Chloe comes home March 13 for her spring break. She will be here for a week! I am excited!

Yes! We had chosen Arizona in April for the climate, the cacti blooming and the culmination of all of our birthdays, but now we get the bonus round of him coming home! I thought he had too much on his plate, but he made it work. The invitation to go to a cabin in Tahoe by a friend was probably the clincher, lol! I'm so glad Chloe is coming home. We might actually have Olivia and her boyfriend at the same time for a quick visit. Their break is the same as Chloe's. You're not going to Tahoe by any chance??

I think I got J-P's juicer at Bed, Bath & Beyond in Portland. I bought so much stuff for his kitchen!

Diane has made me crave steak! I'm seriously thinking of asking a friend to dinner tonight. Tom's working and now I'm starving! He doesn't eat red meat.

Wow, where is everyone? I thought I'd have a few more posts to catch up on LOL. Hope everyone is doing well.

The shower was really nice. They invited some of the men there. The dad to be was there as well as the mom to be's grandpa, uncles, cousins, and her dad. It is the usual gang, so it was really fun. Got some pictures. One of the games was someone had to spoon feed (baby spoon) their partner a jar of baby food. Levi was feeding his cousin's finance' and he tipped the jar and scooped it into his mouth. I informed Levi he would NOT be feeding any grandchild of mine unless I ok it first. LOL. Charlie (the great uncle to be and like my brother) asked if games like we played were done at all showers. I told him not that I knew of. Another game was that there were 5 diapers that were "soiled." You had to guess what baby ate. It was melted candy bars in the diapers and you had to guess what candy bar. I got a some pictures, but some are dark, so I'll try to post them.
I think I did ok with eating as there are never MM friendly foods at these types of things. I ate mostly fruit figuring that was the lesser of the evils. I had a lot of fresh pineapple. It was really sweet and juicy. Really good. I don't think I did too much damage.
Ok, got to go. I'll catch up later.

Bev (or anyone), what is a "clean install" if I do windows 7? Does that mean a complete reformat? Just wondering if I should get the upgrade version or the complete reformat version. I don't really have much on here to save, and I have backed up everything else when I reinstalled Vista. I just want to be sure to get the right one. I have been known to screw up and buy the wrong things LOL.

Kathy: May I ask what we might expect to pay to upgrade my husband's less than one year old computer from Vista to Windows 7? It won't recognize our wireless network and that's a Vista glitch. Grrrrrrr!

Another visit already? You're getting quite spoiled! Congrats.

Kate - sounds like you'll have a good time to for spring break.

Kathy - yes a clean install means you are completely wiping out everything and starting over, including all of your programs and reinstalling all data.

Well, it is time to go run errands. I have Jocelyn's black soy bean chili in the crock pot for me for dinner and Amelia asked for "regular" chili, so it is comletely made so it can just be heated up. Bob is sitting in the car waiting, so I have to go. Bye for now!

Lisa, here are a couple links to Staples. I believe the prices are pretty much the same across the board.
Just remember if you do the complete reformat to save any data on the computer you may have. Reformatting will wipe the hard drive clean.

This one is for the upgrade only (won't wipe hard drive clean)

This one if for the complete reformatted version (wipes the hard drive clean)

If these are wrong, someone please set me straight :cutie:

Thanks, Kathy!

That's not too bad. Maybe we'll do it when J-P comes home. What a pain Vista was! J-P had a funny line on his FB - he said he had new virus protection: A Mac straight out of the box. LOL! He's a Mac snob for good reason.

Hi Everyone, I am sitting at my desk in a complete fog still after my 16 hour saturday, LOL, trying to finally catch up with you guys!

Kate - I know how you feel...so much going on I havent been online anywhere near as much as usual!

Bev - I think I need to fly you over here to fix my computer! lol, you always know what to do!

Lisa - now I am craving steak too! I dont eat much red meat either, just some burger for my chili and taco meat, but boy a steak sure does sound good right now...maybe the red meat would boost my energy level!

Kathy - glad you had fun at the shower, now you are making me want waffles!!

Diane - you've been surfing for recipes! I just got the Good Carb Cookbook I ordered from Amazon, so looking forward to checking it out...I get so bored with my same old same old menu choices!

Ken has been in touch several times the past few days...interesting that he isnt having connectivity issues now that he knows how much it upsets me not to talk with him more...or maybe Im just being a brat and he just happens to be having more opportunity to try to get online, now that he is temporarily laid up...oh, I just dont know...not going to stress about it though!

Hi, Robin! You must be worn out from that long day! I don't know how you do it. I like to move around a lot during the day. Can you walk around with a headset or do you have to stay at a desk?

We use ground turkey breast that is 99% fat free for our tacos, chili, meat loaf, etc. You can't really tell much difference. Regular ground turkey is as fat as burger though. It can be deceiving. All that brown meat is kinda fatty. I am bored to tears with the same old things though. Maybe it's Spring fever hitting me early. I get restless. Could I please get skinny so I could eat a burrito in Tucson? Gosh that sounds so good! The food is so great down there, if you like spicy food. I'm going to try to pack our bread and tortillas so we can somewhat stay on plan. Hopefully, the airline won't think I have a bomb in the bread. I have no idea what I might find in their stores or not.

I did my treadmill for 30 minutes today without pain. Yippee! Still setting it flat and very slow, but it's a start. I do feel better about myself when I can walk.

On standby for clients regarding repairs to their home. We've been waiting for a contractor all day, but we're hoping he'll be our hero vs. the pest company that inflated everything. Grrrrrr! The conversations back and forth took up nearly my whole weekend. Anyone who thinks we make a lot of money for our time should follow me around for a week. I have cauliflower ear from the phone and a stiff neck from emails, lol! I do have a cute purse though. Result of retail therapy on my way home, LOL!

I don't think we will get to Tahoe this time... I got the juicer and have lemon juice freezing as I write this! Thanks again for the great idea!

I forgot to share the wonderful news about my niece! Kristi is finally out of the hospital. She was there for 3 1/2 months...

Sunday -Feb 28th WE HAD A GREAT WEEKEND!!!! It was wonderful to finally have Kristi home. She is doing so well - mostly walking with a cane though she does get tired pretty easily. I love that we proved everyone at the rehab hospital wrong; they didn't think that she would be walking when she came home. We still have lots of work to do and tomorrow at 9AM we start with all of her new therapists. She will be working with a PT, OT and Speech Therapist (working on her short-term memory) on a daily basis. We are also going over tomorrow to sign her up for a modified swim program at the nearby college-needless to say, she is working really hard to regain her strength. She remains steadfast in her goals to return to school and graduate, hopefully in September and to ride again. She actually went to a horse show on Saturday to watch and visit a friend. I couldn't be prouder of her as she fights to get her life back -such an inspiring spirit she has!
Love to all - Jayme

Kate: The news about Kristi has warmed my heart so much! I am so relieved and feel like I want to say I'm so proud of her, even though I don't know her! She has such a fighting spirit. Bless her heart!

Kate, what wonderful news about your niece!! God is so good to all of us for answering so many of our prayers. She is a true walking miracle! I will continue to pray for her and all of your family for the continued faith and strength that will be needed.

Robin, so glad to hear from you. Not sure what to think of the Ken situation either. Just follow your instincts and you'll be ok.

Lisa, your welcome for the links. I'm glad I knew at least that much LOL. I'm not too computer literate. Who would have thunk it LOL!! I just had to order a power cord for my laptop. The outer insulation is pulling away from the plug :( The Acer website has them for $60 plus s/h. I got one off ebay (brand new) for $9 and free s/h. Not too bad. Now for it to get here.

Well, off to make stuffing (not for me though). I had Mike pull a turkey out of my big freezer, so we are having a turkey dinner this evening. Will taste good for sure on a cold evening!!
I got a new swim suit. The one I had was ok, but it had a small skirt around it, and made it look like a dress instead of swim suit. The skirt part kept getting in the way when I was swimming. It was ok to go to a pool party in though. The new one is a 12/14! The old one was a 16. YAA for me!

Kate - Wonderful news about Kristi!! :yay: I will continue to pray for her as she recovers.

My brother is having a polyp removed today. Please keep him in your prayers.

No news on the job yet. I'm not sure what to do about it. I think if I don't hear anything by this afternoon, I'll send a short email saying that- As we discussed, I sent my application and was wondering what the status is.
What do you all think about that?

Robin - Yes, I have been busy looking for recipes! :) Now that my son is interested in the Primal diet I have been going to a lot of those websites. I found a bunch of recipes that are great for MM and Primal. He didn't want chicken pot pie last night, so I made the sausage and greens again. This time I used dinosaur kale instead of spinach. It was okay - I like spinach better.

Well - off to do laundry (ug). Talk to you later!

I did my treadmill for 30 minutes today without pain. Yippee! Still setting it flat and very slow, but it's a start. I do feel better about myself when I can walk.Good for you. I did make it back to Zumba for the first time last night. Did okay.

You mean you don't just work an open house 2 hours a week? :rotfl2:I have cauliflower ear from the phone and a stiff neck from emails, lol! I do have a cute purse though. Result of retail therapy on my way home, LOL! Retail therapy is the best!

Looks like you are going to be looking good at the pool this year!

I'll keep your brother in my prayers. Has it been a full week since you let them know you were interested? If so, I would call. I think e-mails can be so impersonal. Call the HR person and ask if there is anything else you need to do. Did they receive the app, etc.

OK - I got my blood test results back from the Dr. from last week and I need to e-mail Diane because my blood sugar numbers are up.

what is her e-mail address? I don't have it on the new computer.

Have a great day!

Where is Nell?
