Geriatric mm warriors (12/30/09)

Hi Lisa - Nothing yet. I contacted her on Friday and it was a 3 day weekend, so.... I'm hoping they talk about it today. I don't want to get too worked up about it. Yet it's hard to do because I want it so much. Last time I was SO SURE that I had it and when I didn't get it I was so, so, so disappointed. The head of HR said in her last email to me in Nov. that I was their second choice and it was a very difficult decision. She said she would contact me personally if anything else came up and I was still available and still interested. Why didn't she contact me? I really can understand her not remembering, but I don't understand why the 4 other people in the dept. that I interviewed with didn't remember about me. It's only been 3 months. I really am curious as to what happened to the person they gave the job to.

Try not to take it too much to heart; people get busy and they do have short memories, however, they should remember you! Maybe they had an unexpected bad experience with the other person and are being slower to decide this time? I've still got everything crossed but my eyes!

I guess I'm slow on the uptake sometimes...I really like Emergen-C if I feel tired or run down, but it's 8 carbs so I never have used it this whole time on MM. I just finally figured out I could try half a packet as a 5 x 5 and it did give me a more clear head today. When I get tired, I feel like there is a veil over my brain. I stayed up too late watching the Olympics. Trying to make myself rely on the DVR tonight and get more sleep. Anyway, half a packet is better than nothing!

Lisa - this sounds like a wonderful trip! I will keep my fingers crossed for J-P being able to join you. What happens to Bonnie? Brad and I are talking about taking a road trip this summer (which means that Halle can come). Zion, Bryce, Monument Valley, etc. Of course, we may reconsider when we realize how hot it will be in all of those places? It is fun to talk about though.... Brad has to go to LA in April for 4 days - a managers meeting for Ross. I might go down at the end and spend a weekend. What he really wants to do is jump on one of those four day cruises down to Cabo San Lucas. He loves cruises. I am a little skeptical because it doesn't really go anywhere that I want to go. He says it doesn't matter - he loves the cruise ship and doesn't care about the destination? I have never been on a cruise.... We will see????

J-P got his free ticket today by trading in the reward he earned for giving up his seat at Thanksgiving:) We'll arrive just about 30 minutes apart in Tucson. We're really excited so I don't think he'll let his work interfere now that he has a ticket. Yippee! We got this Casita that is named after Tracy/Hepburn. They may have stayed there?? This resort has been around for a long time. The cacti all bloom at that time of year and it's around 80 degrees. I can't wait! We haven't been to Arizona since J-P was 8, but it was a week to remember back then. We did a road trip out of Phoenix to all the natural wonders.

Lisa  I am so happy for you! And your family!

Thanks, Nell! Our time together is pretty rare these days.

How are you feeling today? Better, I hope! Love you!

Well, it's going. I think I'd be feeling better if it were not for harassment from the previous landlord. He's reacted badly to my telling him we are using the last months rent instead of giving him a check, and changed the locks on the house before our final moving day. People we know down here are shocked that he can get away with the things he is doing, as they are witnesses to it. I lost my Christmas tree and a bunch of clothes hangers, but I did get most of the ornaments off of the tree before he changed the locks. Everything else was out and he will have to clean the house on his own as that is what we still needed to do. It's clearly illegal, but I just don't have the energy to fight right now.

I'm trying to work on doing my school work, but it's really hard to concentrate. I'm rarely going to my farm by the way, lol. I know everyone likes to pick on me about Farmville. I'm spending five minutes a day there tops. I just don't want my crops to die. :sad2:

I'm going to try to pick up some vitamin D when I can Lisa. Thanks for asking for me. I hope everyone is having a great day! :grouphug: And that Pony can get back soon.

Nell: I hear what you are saying about the stress of dealing with the landlord, but there could be a free renter's advocacy group for Florida, unless all of these kinds of things have suffered budget cuts. Might be worth looking into. In CA renters have to have 90 days notice from their landlord before being evicted, which would include locks being changed. Thank goodness you had most of your things out.

P.S. Nell, I'm glad you are here. I was feeling like that movie with Will Smith when he is the last man alive and he keeps checking the radio, etc. for transmissions!:surfweb: I'm here alone talking to myself, which is rather alarming, lol!

Kathy - I just saw a commercial for World News Tonight (6:30 pm here) with Diane Sawyer - they are doing a piece on 'tough love' for families dealing with addiction. I think your husband should go to Al-Anon - isn't that the one for the family members of addicts? They talk about how not to be enablers.

Thanks Diane. Just got home, so not sure if I missed it or not. Mike (hubby) has actually worked both the alnon and the narnon. He has been clean and sober for over 20 years now. The problem I'm having is he's been thinking with his heart and not his head. He knows from personal experience you need to use tough love, but it's very hard on a person emotionally.
Michael is in Clarion Psychiatric Hospital (about 2 1/2 hours north of us) for at least 72 hours. That is all they can keep him. It's messed up. After that, I have no idea what is going to happen. I just keep reminding Mike gently that he needs to use his head and not his heart to deal with this.

Hi guys. Guess Robin still can't post :( She is able to read all our posts, just not respond.
Feeling really tired, just got a hot shower, so I am heading to bed. I am going over to FB quick to see if Robin has posted there any.
Still didn't get to the Y!! The last 2 days have been so crazy. Come heck or high water, I'm going tomorrow!!
Have a great night everyone. Sending hugs to you all too. :grouphug:

Hi,

I have to re-log in each time I use this site. I don't know what they did, but don't like it.

I think Robin had something set wrong one other time and Beverly was able to help her. I don't remember what it was, but since I am having a problem too, I am not much help.

I am really enjoying the Olympics as we have been out of the country for the past 2 times, so have not seen it for a long time.

We have house guests arriving on Thursday so will not be able to be on the computer as muchh as normal. I will not be ingnoring you on purpose!!! Our guests are coming from deep snow so can hardly wait to get here!!

Kathy - a special hug for you:hug:

and..... hugs to everyone else, too:grouphug:

Hello Girls!

Sounds like things have been very busy for everyone lately.

Kathy - good luck with your step-son.

Lisa - your vacation with J-P sounds like a lot of fun.

Diane - I'll keep my fingers crossed about the job. Let us know as soon as you can.

Robin - I am not sure why you are having issues. Give me a jingle at the office tomorrow on FB or AIM and I'll see if I can help you. It could be an issue with cookies. Do you have your computer set to accept cookies?

Kate - Do the cruise for the ship itself. My DH isn't thrilled about cruising, but he loves the ports. We are doing an Alaska cruise this July and he is so excited about the excursions.

Jocelyn - good luck with your guests. I hope your back is feeling better.

Nell - I am glad your Dr. is willing to help you with your meds. Don't feel bad about telling us about your meds. I have been on Paxil for a few years now for anxiety issues and also have Xanax for an "as needed" basis. Luckily I don't "need" them nearly as much as I used to, but it is nice to know they are there if I do. I need to up my Vitamin D per Lisa's suggestion.

We had more snow last weekend, but the schools have been off for a 4.5 day weekend for President's day and Teacher's Institute, so they are going back tomorrow.

I took the kids sledding on Sunday afternoon and slid down the muddy hill and landed very hard on my bottom, so now my back and fanny are really hurting. Saturday night Bob saw that a tablecloth had blown up on a candle and lit on fire in the foyer at the club, so he went and tried to smother it ending with 3rd degree burns on both hands. Of course, he hasn't gone to the Dr. and one of the burns on his right index finger looks pretty bad (not infected) and is very painful for him. Obviously we are quite a pair right now. I told the kids that I thought I had broken by butt (because it has a crack in it!!! LOL). They weren't nearly as amused as I was!:rotfl2:

Well, I need to get to bed, so I'll try to check in tomorrow.

Love you all!

Good morning everyone.
Bev, nice to see you. Sorry about all the bad luck recently. Keep a close eye on those burns! They must be very painful!! Hope your butt feels better soon. I did find your joke amusing, as we usually say the same thing when we hurt our butts too. :rotfl2: Maybe no one has a great sense of humor like we do ;)

Slept really well last night. Didn't wake up once. I did have 8 ounces of milk yesterday in my coffee. Until I get some 1/2 and 1/2 or light cream. I think I can do 1 cup of espresso with my milk as a 5x5. I weighed myself and lost a pound. I have been at a stand still since after the holidays and couldn't figure out why. Now I know it was, the milk I was drinking. Just wish I could figure out why I thought it was ok. But I am back on track now. I did have huge carb cravings yesterday, but didn't give in.

Carrie has another 2 hour delay. Can't figure out why. I didn't look outside, but don't think we got much snow. Maybe an inch or so, and it's 22* out, so it's not very cold. The only thing I can think of is the back roads are still unpassable? But with the delay yesterday and no school Monday, you'd think they would have them cleared by now.

Well, going to finish my green tea (still not liking it much) then do something to my hair before Carrie gets her shower.
I'll catch up later. Hope Robin gets here soon!! :cheer2: (maybe this will help a little)

Kate: Bonnie goes to a cage-less ‘kennel’ that is really a big farm for dogs to run around and be silly. They love her there. It’s called Aunt Cynthia’s Bed and Biscuit Inn and it’s in Loomis not far from the freeway, in case you ever vacation in this direction. You have to go there for about a 30-minute interview to see if your dog socializes well with the other dogs. They have some they separate – like the really big ones from the really little ones, but Bonnie falls right in the middle and runs around with Labs, etc. She made best friends with a puppy her first time there and they held opposite ends of a rope toy full time out in the play yard, much like best friends on the playground at recess holding hands! Wish I could have seen that! Aunt Cynthia always takes a snap shot of your dog playing for you to keep. It’s a bit pricier than a kennel, but Bonnie gets plenty of exercise and that’s important for a dog like her. We take a lot of beach vacations because of Bonnie. It’s traumatic for Tom to leave her, but Aunt Cynthia’s is the only place she doesn’t give us a backward glance! Again, like a kid wanting to go to school and play, lol! In the summer, they have kiddie pools for the dogs.

We’ve been on several cruises. I used to win a trip every year in my other profession. They are really awesome; you’ll love it. Western Mexico isn’t our favorite, but it’s a good way for you to test it out. We had a very bad experience with a snorkeling ship in Cabo so we don’t trust them. The cruise itself is very romantic, though. We usually find out what beaches the locals love and we take our own taxi rather than sign up for excursions the ship books for you. They cost more, you are not in control and you don’t get the ‘real’ experience. Just a tip.

I can’t imagine what’s keeping Robin off the site! Hope she gets it straightened out soon!

We put Halle in a kennel last summer when we went to Tahoe for a week. It was so traumatic for me. I kept picturing them taking her off to her "run" and it made me want to cry every time I thought about her. Several weeks later we went to Santa Cruz for a week and I paid someone to stay at our house.

Hmmmmm..... What was your other profession? For some reason, I thought you had been in real estate for years Maybe you said your family had been in real estate for years? Thanks for the cruise tips. The funny thing about Brad is that he doesn't even want to get off the ship! So it doesn't really matter to him where we go. I can't imagine not getting off! He isn't big on traveling. One of my favorite places in the world is Paris. He says that the only way he would ever go to Paris was if it could be a day trip. I think that the only way that I could him to Europe would be if we were going to go on a cruise. Which I could do!

Well, Kate, I'm old enough to have done more than one thing for years, LOL! I was a sales manager for an international skin care company from Sweden. We had luxury trips every year. They closed operations in the US when J-P was about 10 or so. Some people never get off the ship, but you'd miss out on a lot, just in my opinion. My sis and I have done all the same travels with our husbands and we've become rather savvy on how to see the same things without paying the ships markup on excursions. That is, if it seems possible. For instance in St. John we hired a local captain to take 4 couples out sailing and snorkeling for the day. It was one of the best days of our lives and we had a lot more control over the situation as well as a much longer experience. He told us to go to the store and get lunches made while he ran through his preparations. Kind of like the difference between seeing Yosemite on your own bike as opposed to the tour bus full of tourists. My sis and BIL still take a cruise in their business every year. She's the one that got me to start hiring local taxi drivers. We are the first ones on the best beaches of the world that way!! We pay them to stay or pick us up again, depending.

I forgot to tell you that Aunt Cynthia's also calls the dogs in for sleep at night into their own rooms where they have second hand sofas, etc. The dogs can sleep where and with whom they please. I wish Halle could come stay with us. Bonnie loves company. If you pass this way and can't take her, you can call on us anytime.

Beverly: It was sooooo good to see you! I'm so sorry about your cracked butt and your hubby's burns! That's awful! Don't you either one wait too long for help if you need it. Men will suffer rather than go to the doctor, won't they? Tom would love, love love to go to Alaska. I'm sure we will make it some day. What an experience to be out there with the glaciers, etc. I'm excited for you!

I hope you can get Robin hooked up with some lc Cookies today!:surfweb::rotfl: We miss her!

Jocelyn: I'm like you with the Olympics. Tom and I are big fans. Thank goodness we can DVR them now. He goes to bed too early and I can't watch for that many hours at once. We are big speed skating fans. Can't wait for more of that! I'm going to take a peak at the men's figure skating this am. It's on tape.:happytv:

is thing on? Testing 1,2,3...OMG this is making me crazy...Im at work, so hopefully it still works from here!
