Geriatric mm warriors (12/30/09)

Beverly, at least you are falling apart together! :rotfl: Seriously, I hope you both recover from the sledding soon.

Kathy, I'm glad you have 72 hours of peace. Does Mike go to meetings? Maybe he needs to go and talk about it and get some more support from other recovering people. Sometimes I can say the same things over and over to Marti, but she doesn't hear unless it comes from someone else.

Jocelyn, it must be an exciting time with company coming. I hope you have a wonderful visit.

Pony, I'm glad your able to read us. I hope your day is going ok.

Lisa, talking to yourself isn't crazy... or is it?:lmao:

OK, just a quick shout out to you guys! LOL, my home computer is just totally a mess since disboards did their upgrade! I cannot post as the upgrade did something to block my browser, and I still havent figured out how to make the darn thing work again...all my other sites are fine except here! I Miss you guys and cant stand not being able to post! Looks like Im going to have to do a Dell Restore and clear out my entire computer and re-download everything complete...and I am NOT good at that stuff! LOL, they are sending me an exgternal hard drive to capture all my saved data first, and a recovery disk to clear the computer to I can put everything in again...Cant believe the disboards upgrade can cause so much trouble! I even tried to download other browsers, but my computer wont even do that...ugh... I found a bunch of others on other threads having the trouble too...

so anyway, I will try to catch up on posts in a bit, and post later during my lunch break! I hope you are all doing ok, and thanks to those that popped in on FB to say hi!

Shoot, Robin. Sounds like you are having an Internet Explorer issue. I had that too and had a guy come out. He fixed me up in no time. He and my son prefer Firefox or Safari as browsers. I have to have IE for some of my work applications, though. Compter stuff drives me nuts!

Hi Again, did some quick catching up, looks like I really didnt miss too much...where the heck is everybody these days?

Lisa - I definitely have an IE issue, but never had it until the disboards upgrade, so not sure why I have it now...hopefully getting it straight soon so I can go back to my old profile and user name too! Your vacation sounds great, Have a wonderful time!

Kathy - thanks for checking in on me at FB, and Im praying Mike will see the best place for Michael is not at home where it will cause the rest of you so much stress, and not get him the professional help he really needs.

Jocelyn - I wish this problem was as easy as the last one I had, but no, even the disboards webmaster still hasnt got this one figured out, and its affecting other users too, not just me this time. ugh

Nell - your landlord cannot lock you out before you remove your stuff! That is totally illegal, and I would go after him to get your tree and whatever else you had left there...jerk...let me know when you are ready and I will come down and help you kick his butt

Bev - so sorry about your poor butt and hubby's burn, sounds like he should definitely get that checked out before he gets a serious infection! Thanks for the help offer, not sure you and I could fix this one...they told me to go in and delete cookies, so I did that and nothing changed...do I need to go back in and get some more cookies? WTH? Not sure what the cookie thing is all about, but I can offer Internet Explorer some really great chocolate chip cookies if that would make it start working again...I have a great receipe that calls for adding malt powder and they are to DIE FOR...LOL, something tells me my computer would not appreciate them like my Godson does!

Talk to you guys later!

Robin: Holy Smokes! Malt chocolate chip cookies! That might have to be my goal weight cheat. I need the recipe!

I'm mulling over going back to Step 1 til vacation time. Sitting around with these boo boo's is making me feel like a fat slug. I haven't gotten any bigger, but not made any progress since January either. I'm thinking of starting Step 1 again tomorrow til I can exercise again or am happier with myself. Eating carbs (11 - 20's) and sitting around is messing with my mind.

Nell - thanks for the good thoughts! I'm sorry your old landlord is being such a butthead!

Robin - What version of IE are you running? If it's an old one, you might want to try upgrading to the most recent version.

I would definitely take it in to a local computer repair place before trying to do that stuff yourself. It might be an easy/cheap fix.

BTW I want that recipe also! (Not for me, but my kids!)

I also use Safari and Firefox. IE had major issues with viruses and security (I think) issues.

Robin, if your here reading, try downloading either one of those and try those to log in. Right now my Safari is running slow, so I've been running Firefox. I did order a restore CD from Acer so I can hopefully go back to Vista (downgraded to XP home) and regain my sound drivers!! Almost 5 months no sound on my laptop. Should have gotten an IBM thinkpad like my other one was. Loved it!! But wanted a bigger screen for Mike to use, so got the Acer. I don't like it all all!! But I do like the big screen. I don't have to wear my glasses to see what I'm typing LOL :woohoo:

Hi everyone. Not much going on here today. Just got home from work, and was going to clean tonight, but decided heck with it. I'll do it tomorrow night. I am heading to the Y. I have been trying to get there for a week almost!! Mike took Alyssa today with a guest pass. They were there from 11-2. She is now asleep on the couch. Such a hard life!! Not in the best of moods today, sorry. I did take my Vitamin D, so I know it's not me LOL. Word around the water cooler is that we are getting another snow storm next week!! How much more are we supposed to handle? :confused3 I am getting very anxious for spring. I just have 6 more weeks!! April is just a wet rainy month. March is iffy.
Maybe my bad mood is my l & p going on vacation. I had a coffee today from the convenience store. It only had about 3 ounces of half and half in it. If I can stay at that amount, I think I will be good. Need to put the espresso machine under the counter in a cabinet. Out of sight, out of mind, right? It need to get some half and half for a cup of coffee at home. I have a 20 oz. Starbucks tumbler I refill at the convenience store for .89. But times that by once a day for 5 days (usually more than that on a typical day, but cutting back) that is 4.50 a week!!
Ok, I think I talked your ears off by now. Just rambling now. I'll check in later, hopefully!!

Kathy: There are around 11 or 12 carbs per cup of milk so it's not good for you to have 8 oz, which is a cup, in your coffee. That coffee could be adding to your stress, which you don't need right now. Saying this with (as Michael Jackson said, L-0-V-E).

I have been a lazy slug today. I woke up at 10:45! That is the latest I've ever slept (since I was a teenager ;) ).

I had some phone calls to make for my son and a certificate he needs from the NYFD. I finally got a woman who could answer my questions. Other than that I was on the couch watching stupid TV.

For dinner I made sausage and spinach over spaghetti squash w/some parmesan cheese. It was very good. I got the recipe from Rachel Ray magazine - very simple, but tasty.

Robin - I hope your computer problem is cleared up soon. These stupid computers can be so frustrating!

Bev - Your butt joke is cracking me up! ;) I hope you and your hubby feel better quickly.

Jocelyn - Enjoy your company! I am jealous of them.

ok Lisa, maybe I am just having an oldtimer's memory loss moment here, but I know that we arent supposed to use milk due to the carbs, but what about the half and half? I thought we were using that with Diane's recommendation? OMG, I have been using it since day one on step 1!! I hope that hasnt been an issue for me? Whew...remind me here, would you? I thought Kathy said she had to go get some half and half, then you made the comment about the milk and I got all confused! lol, long day here

Bev - I would love to try another browser, but cant get Firefox to load...its like the IE problem is causing all kinds of other issues! I wil try to download Safari and see what happens...I would take it in to a local repair shop, but DREAD taking the whole darn thing apart, so Im going to go with the Dell recommendation and just back up my stuff to an external hard drive, and then drop in the recovery disk and start all over again! Luckily my neighbor just had to do this about a month ago with hers, so she is going to be able to give me a hand...

Diane: Can you post that recipe for us? It sounds great! We love spaghetti squash. I'm so lucky to have a husband that will try it. He actually asks for it!

I said that to Kathy because before today she mentioned she was having 8 oz. of milk and that was her cutting down portion, lol! Half and half is ok as far as I remember, but I think a splash in a recipe or coffee is about all one should have at once. While you were gone with computer issues we discovered with Kathy that she thought milk was a freebie. She is reformed now!:woohoo:

What happened to me with my IE is that it was loading a bunch of new toolbars without my asking it to! - and that was kicking me off of my work sites and causing them to freeze! Frustrating. It basically needed cleaning up.

ok Lisa, that makes sense! see how out of the loop I get when Im not here for a few days! LOL, I WISH milk was a freebie too! I use half and half in coffee only when I dont have a vanilla atkins shake kicking around...I like that better and no carbs to speak of in a shot of it... hey Kathy, why dont you try that instead of half and half? Its really good, and eliminates having to add any additional Splenda too.

Diane - that sounds really good to me too...Mom loves spaghetti squah and will even cook it for me, lol, so post that recipe for us!

As for the Malted Chocolate Chip cookie recipe...hmmmmm, do I need to put out a disclaimer on that so you guys wont eat a whole batch and then try to blame me? LOL, they ARE SO FREAKING GOOD!! I will never tell myf riends whats in them when they ask why they are so good...they cant ever put their finger on it, but they know theres a secret ingredient!

I posted the recipe. It's so easy, but was surprisingly good.

My sister and one of her granddaughters are coming to spend the night on Saturday. Her granddaughter is 6 years old and her name is Jocelyn. Jocelyn - If I say they named her after you can I get invited to Hawaii? :rotfl2: Anyway......I am looking forward to having some fun girl time with her. She likes to do my nails :scared1:

Robin: Tom and I used to drive to Coloma, CA for a weekend drive as far back as when we were teenagers and drink malted shakes from a corner ice cream parlor. They were huge! Coloma is where the gold was discovered along the American River. It's a beautiful place and only about 40 minutes away from us. I am one of the few people I know that goes nuts for chocolate malts! I could chew and spit one of the cookies, LOL! Honestly, I love to bake to make other people happy.:dance3:

I am a nervous wreck - there are so many crutial events in tonight's Olympics! I have to go take a bath to kill the time while I'm waiting. I had a breakthrough and took Bonnie for a walk before dinner. About 1/8 my normal distance before the knee said to go home, but it's amazing how I feel like I might just live again! All I needed was some sunshine and activity. Oh, and a full price offer on a gorgeous home I'm selling didn't hurt either. It's been a great day!

I need to take a new picture. My face is thinner now. I just realized!

Lisa, I think it was you last week that mentioned about the milk and the carbs and that was when I realized I had been drinking so much of it since the holidays. I think I convinced myself we were allowed milk!!:confused3 I am trying to teach myself to drink coffee black. I am down to about 3 ounces of half and half in it now. That is for a 20 ounce tumbler. I think we are allowed a little bit of half and half or light cream, but I want to get rid of it completely.

Kathy, I'm glad you have 72 hours of peace. Does Mike go to meetings? Maybe he needs to go and talk about it and get some more support from other recovering people. Sometimes I can say the same things over and over to Marti, but she doesn't hear unless it comes from someone else.

Nell, yes he has to go to meetings as part of his probation. But it's like you said, they have to want to hear what people are saying.
He did call home today. He is rethinking his 72 hour stay. He is wanting to stay longer. He met a girl there he really likes. Maybe she'll have the influence to help him want to get better. But being that she's also a patient there, I personally don't like the idea. He needs to be working on himself, not trying to build a relationship. Just my 2 cents worth.

Hi everyone!! Just got back from the Y. Got there around 6:30 or so. I can't believe I put in 3 hours there! I tried the water aerobics and really like them. I did 35 minutes on the treadmill, did the steam room for 15, then did the aqua aerobics for an hour had open swimming for 1/2 hour then did another 15 in the steam room. My nose isn't clogged much at all!! I am feeling very relaxed and ready for bed. I doubt there will be school tomorrow. It's getting pretty nasty out. Really fine wet snow. It is getting slippery now.

Robin, I did try the Atkins shake in my coffee when I first started MM. I didn't like it at all!! I may try it again. I love to drink milk especially with spicy stuff, an tomato based sauce or soup, and of things when I eat popcorn. LOL I really miss it, but I'l survive. I can feel and see my stomach getting flatter again. It was bloated pretty well from the milk :( Hope you get your computer fixed soon. Miss having you here!!

Ok, off to bed for a great night's sleep. I'll try to catch up in the morning.
