When I was a little girl I had a book called Gerald McBoing Boing. I haven't seen it in a zillion years. The text was something like this: (I was 4 and this is the best I can do)

This is the story of Gerald McCoy (or McCloy, I am not sure)
And the strange thing that happened to that little boy.
They say it all started when Gerald was two.
The age boys start talking, least most of them do.
But when he started talking, you know what he said?
He didn't speak words he went "boing boing" instead.

What's this said his father, his face turning blue.
That's a very strange thing for a young boy to do.

That's all I can remember. I would love to have this book. Anyone know it?

But of course:

Yep, we have it and it is a newer version (same story just newer graphics). I think we just got it at Barnes and Noble but I don't remember for sure.

Oh WoW!!!! I am going to go look for it. When was it first published??

There are two books I remember from my childhood. That one and Huey, Dewey and Luey on the Runaway Train with Uncle Scrooge. I remember more of course, but these were my favorites and I remember them vividly.

I didn't know there was a book. I saw a cartoon with Jim Backus doing the voice. It played with a Mr. Magoo (also with Jim Backus as the voice) cartoon before the main movie way back in the 1940's or early 50's. I loved it! Went around doing the sound effects for days, driving my folks crazy!
It must have made quite an impression if I can still remember it.

OMG! Where were you people 15 years ago when I was almost committed to the looney bin because no one but me remembered Gerald McBoing Boing! Every person I asked looked at me like I had "Unstable person, back away" stamped on my forehead. They'll all be eating some crow now won't they!

They will Tevagirl. It was in the 50's that I had that book. I hadn't started school yet, (I started K at 4) and I memorized the whole book at 3. I can still remember it. At least up until the father turned blue. My mother swore I could read, but I remembered it more than reading it. Gerold's hair was combed neatly. It was a green book cover. He was in a diaper and then he grew older.

I seem to remember a record (45 rpm) of Gerald McBoing Boing. That, and Alvin and the Chipmunks singing the Christmas song are the two recordings I remember from my childhood.

I live through my children - we have been seeing commercials for this cartoon on Boomerang. It will be on weekdays between 9 and 11 am. I didn't know there was a book or anything else!
