Ive heard stuff about saying George on POTC but im not quite sure what it is about can someone explain it to me?

It's a little joke the CM's play, telling guests if they say the name George (supposedly someone who died while making the Pirates ride; your story may vary) three times (your number may vary) at a certain scene during the ride (your scene may vary), weird things will happen.

As far as I can tell, the 'weird things' I've read about here are pretty no-so-weird, but it's a fun little tradition if you're into that sort of thing and have an active imagination. ;)

Don't go anywhere yet.....I'm guessing you'll get a lot of fun stories from people who have done it. No harm in it really, and it's kind of fun to hear what 'freaky' things people suddenly notice.

Until 'George' actually appears in the flesh (or almost flesh), I just consider it a cute joke some bored CM's came up with to make things a bit more exciting, but hey...it could happen, right? ;)

BTW, one of the ghost tours at Gettysburg claims there's a ghost named George who routinely haunts a certain field they tramp their guests through every night. He didn't appear there either, but I'm wondering if George is a pretty common ghost name. :teeth:

i thought George was at DL not WDW. It is 3x though at the pirate ship part. And George is a very common name so i wouldn't be surprised if there are ghosts named George. BTW I have ghosts in my house so I am a believer. DH however was not a believer until he saw one of our ghosts himself.

Wow I never heard this before....I would be interested in any stories about it though. :)

Why would George live at the POTC when all the other ghosts live at the Haunted Mansion? Doesn't make sense to me!

Hmmm... I've actually never heard of this before either.. can people post the stories they got from CM's? I would really be interested to hear them :thumbsup2

*Sigh*

The story of George is true. Many of the maintainance guys I got to befriend during my College Program at Splash have worked all over the World, and they say that the story of the man who died in the building is true. I've also heard many, many, many, other creepy stories of incidents at WDW. One I'm sure most Disers are familiar with is the skyway-type thing that took Guests from Fantasyland to Tomorrowland. :( It's pretty creepy, huh?

Enough about Halloween-ish stories! It's Thanksgiving! Let's be thankful for WDW! :)

The story I heard required CM who opened the ride to say good morning to George and the CM who closed the ride to say goodnight, otherwise the ride would breakdown.

I know an engineer CM and they all say goodnight to George to keep him from causing them extra work the next day.

This is true, When I worked at Pirates at WDW (although nothing strange happened on my watch) the opening and closing paperwork did have Good Morning and Goodnight to George noted on it. I was told that if you did not say good night to him prior to powering down the ride, it would either Auto shut down (which requires a full recycle and can take up to an additional 30 minutes) or it would not start in the morning causing a delayed opening. I have heard many strange stories from people that have worked there a lot longer than I did. I believe what they say although I did not have any experiences myself. George himself was a worker that died while building the ride. There is what is called "George's beam" which is where he allegedly was killed, in training they show it to you... Kinda creepy even if you are not a believer.

I think, having read this that there is a little folk lore mix up though, the "say it 3 times in a certain spot" is not for George. There was a guest that was killed on the ride in a freak accident sometime in the early 80's I believe. The story to that one is that if you say the name of the coordinator that was working that day 3 times just after you go down the drop (into the "Wicked Wench Pirate Boat" scene) strange things will happen. pirate:

George is at Disney World and I experienced him first hand :thumbsup2

I was on a private behind the scenes tour of parts of the Magic Kingdom (by CM's for CM's...) We headed to POTC to hear about George. Rumor has it if you say his name (don't remember if you have to say it 3 times or not) that George will shut down the ride. I'm sorry I don't remember more about the story....Anyway, while we were backstage looking at all the videos and the ride shut down....It was very cool.

As a side note, we saw some other pretty cool things like the spectro floats and inside and downstairs in the HM :) That was my fav....

What skyway story?

It's about a Maintenance worker that was killed while cleaning/working on the skyway...he was killed in Fantasyland I believe and I also heard it was a CP that turned on the machine resulting in his death....Rumors of course

There was also a cast member killed being crushed inside of CoP, but she was killed when the building was still in DL and probably haunts Tomorrowland THERE.

That was America Sings not CoP...

See what I mean, Red Sox? :teeth:

I guess the only way to know if it's 'real' is to say it yourself, ideally several times in a row, over the course of several days. If something 'creepy' happens every time, you know George is there. If not, maybe he's sleeping. ;)

It's like in the movie Beetlejuice, they weren't allowed to say the b-word or he would come, :))
