I am going to try. It will keep me a little past my bedtime, but not too much if I start right when it drops (8 PM for me).
I’ll prob watch tomorrow night. Staying up till midnight tomorrow for Switch 2 so need something to entertain.
The scene didn't bother me because this show is trying to show how drunk with power some in the Empire are. It also mirrors what happens in times of war. Why do we think the Empire that will resort to extermination of people wouldn't have officers that try to take what they want? I think this is the event that gets Bix to take an active role in fighting. I hope she finds the doctor from season 1 and settles the score. The Chandrila world building was phenomenal.
I didn't so much have a problem with the scene itself, just the intensity of it was a bit much. Also, at the end, she yells, "He tried to rape me!" Yeah, that was obvious. Star Wars has alluded so such things before - I mean, Zygerrian Slavers come to mind. Those scantily-clad Twi-leks weren't being sold to clean the house. I think it could have had the same impact if it were toned down a tad - just a tad too. I mean, it was pushing the line, but not crossing it. That's as far as I want it to go though.
Well, she was yelling that to the trooper who had no idea what had happened and was about to take her in regardless of what actually happened because no one has value except Imperials. I don't mind it. Gilroy is really going for it and Disney is not standing in his way. It's okay to have a mature Star Wars that deals with an actual reality of how bad things got under the Empire.
I mean, sure, it's okay to have that, but it's not my preference. I always like to say, "Star Wars is for 8 year olds" - and it is! This is more like for 12 year olds, though I am calibrated to 80's kid levels, which means almost nothing is truly inappropriate!I just think there is plenty of more mature sci-fi out there - Star Wars doesn't really need it. Again, it's at the line, but not across it - I just hope they don't try to cross.
I always felt "Star Wars is for kids" was a cop out by George to deflect criticism when the prequels came out. Star Wars and Empire had heavy themes and brutal things happen in them. An entire planet wiped out on a whim, complete with the princess of that planet being forced to watch. The lead's surrogate parents burned alive because they mistakenly bought droids. Jawas massacred for the same thing. A character martyring himself to help the hero live on and unlock his potential. Luke getting his hand cut off and choosing to potentially kill himself than join the side of his father who is a killer. A character being tortured for no other reason than to bring the hero into a trap. It wasn't until Jedi that it really became more of a "kid's film". I think Star Wars is big enough to have multiple appeals. I don't show my 15 year old Andor. She also doesn't have as much interest in it. We watched some Bad Batch last night before I watched the 3rd episode of Andor with my wife and 17 year old.
All that to say, I get that the scene was tough for some people. I think Gilroy is trying to show how dirty it became and why people resort to rebellion and extreme means (like the kid creating the IED) when faced with oppression. It's definitely hitting at a pretty opportune time. Star Wars has always been rooted in history with the Empire.
Waiting another week for new episode feels like....
