I didn't mean that it should have been Original Trilogy or nothing. I understand there are people who love the prequel trilogy. There are people, especially younger fans who love the sequel trilogy. People can absolutely love/be fans of whichever Star Wars trilogy and/or TV series they want. It's a big galaxy covering a large timespan. From the start, Disney should have catered to a much wider range of fans instead of just the sequel fans.
The reason I posted the link to the fan created map was to demonstrate it was possible to have different sections linked to different time periods.
The thing is, I feel like it's the OT-only fans who are being the most divisive about this. I've never heard someone who favors the prequels complain that they can't meet Anakin and Padme in Galaxy's Edge. (Honestly, if anyone got the short end of the stick, they did--as BrianL points out, the OT and ST share an aesthetic that the prequels don't.)
And I wouldn't even mind polite comments, but it gets really nasty and derogatory towards the ST and its fans. Scroll back a few pages.
Even that map--you'd have to study it for a while to realize that it's not all OT lands, because that's mostly what it is. An attempt to relegate everything that came after the OT to a lesser place.
I don't even think Galaxy's Edge was conceived as "sequels-only." The only things in the land that are specific to the sequels are Rise of the Resistance, Rey, and Kylo. That's it!
As you yourself pointed out, when the imagineers chose what to include in Galaxy's Edge, they considered what would be the most iconic, classic Star Wars. That's probably why we have Oga's Cantina (which I love, BTW). There are no particularly iconic cantinas in the ST. The one on Takodana is itself an homage to the OT.
What I'm hearing from OT-only fans is that they want Disney to ignore its own trilogy and focus on the OT, design their parks in a very specific way (outlined by people who have never even worked in the theme park industry and don't know that what they're asking for is unrealistic), and they're going to be toxic online until their demands are met. I'm frankly sick of the entitlement and childish behavior.
