General question about backpacks

I remember when I was at Universal a couple of years ago, they were pretty strict about no backpacks allowed on some of the rides. I had to put my back in a locker which was a bit of a pain based on the lockers location.

I am going to be at HS and AK on Tue (and possibly an evening park hop to Epcot). I was planning on just bringing a small Fanny pack / pouch for my phone and wallet but wondering about a larger backpack. Are there some rides that prohibit any kind of backpack and I would have to find a locker for it?

For the most part... Nope.
But there ARE free lockers next to the attraction if you want to ride Kali River Rapids Water Ride at AK.

No park at WDW restricts any bags so you can definitely bring them with you even on the rides. You'll just have to store them by your feet as long as they don't interfere with the safety restraints. FoP at AK has a shelf behind the ride vehicle where you can stow your bag too.

Yes.

They have a marked area on the floor at Soarin' where we've seen backpacks that wouldn't fit in the under-seat basket.

But even our full-size backpack that we took when the kids were small fit under the seat. And of course on Pandora there’s a cubby, but it’s right there behind the bikes and also plenty roomy.

There are lockers near Kali and I would use them. They used to have an area in the middle of the raft with a plastic cover where you could put a bag to keep it dry-ish. They removed the bag holder and now it's just an open area that won't hold anything and you have to put your bag on the floor where it is guaranteed to get soaked.

Thank you for that update, I had no idea. We plan for our stuff to be able to survive the afternoon thunderstorms, so we always just used the bag holders in the middle!

Never had a problem with my backpack on any ride at WDW

On Kali, I buckeled up then put my back pack on backwards. Under my rain poncho.
