I'm wondering what the first day of school for most is for this upcoming school year? Our school (southern Michigan) always has a 1/2 day on the Tuesday following Labor Day. So our first day will be September 8, 2015.

I'm thinking we may be able to squeeze in something at the end of August, beginning of September and see lesser crowds if most other schools are in (especially the southeast and Florida). This works out really well, if it's the case, because I'm also trying to hit all the Major League Baseball parks and was thinking of adding Miami and Tampa this year, who are both at home during that period also.

So if you know, please post dates for first day of school for this upcoming year.

My town in MA goes back the Wednesday before Labor Day, so will be September 1. A lot of schools in MA do not go back until the Wednesday after Labor Day. Means we get out in June earlier than other towns which is especially nice when Labor Day is later like this year and when there are a lot of snow days. :)

Obviously this varies across the country, ranging from early August (like for us here in Atlanta) to early September. The later that you go in August, the less busy the parks will be.

In NC for traditional calendar students, we can't start before August 25th and that is generally speaking when NC Public Schools start, now year round schools have like 4 different schedules but for the most part, you can say NC schools start August 25th.

Yes, I'm done scheduling the trips for right when school gets out. We were out of snow days by early January last year. Some weren't even because of snow, it was so cold they couldn't get most of the diesel buses to start on several days. I remember another year it was getting close to the built in snow days being used up and we were already booked to leave the day after the school year ended, so we could hit the last day of Star Wars Weekends. Never again will I put myself through that unnecessary stress. It's not fun when you still have to worry about possibly getting snow days in April.

Here in central Missouri we start somewhere around August 20th - give or take a few days depending on the school district.

Us too in Canada...first Monday (or is it Tuesday) after labor day so believe it would be Sept 7th or 8th. Do kids get an extra week this summer? Seems we have two weeks to fill this year with camp ending Aug 21st (usual 8 week session). Have heard it's a good time to go based on crowds (but hot)

Our schools start the end of July.

The adjacent county has year round school.

Traditionally the further you get into August starting around the second week the more kids are back in school and the less are at WDW.

The issue that has come up in recent years is that some states have passed Save Our Summer Laws that give a date on when school can start (some started as early as the second week of August) so many are starting later around the week before Labor day but OP I would say 75% of the kids are back the week before labor day.

Our calendar isn't out yet, but this year we started Aug 13 so I would expect something similar. I don't think any schools in our area start much later than the 2nd-3rd week of August.

We go back 8/31 this year, which is the Monday before labor day. That's my dream too of going to all of the major league ball parks. Thankfully my family is the same way.

We were just in Tampa over Christmas and my ds 10 wants to go back to go to a game, but probably won't happen this summer.

We are planning a trip to California for late July or August this year and spending 9-10 nights and doing Disneyland plus going to see games at the Dodgers, Angels and Padres.

There are thousands of school districts, so I don't know that a small sample here will really help you. You can assume that most of the South and Midwest will be back by the end of August, while much of the Northeast goes back after Labor Day.

I can tell you that we have gone for the last week of August the last two years and I thought the crowds were very low. This year, Labor Day falls later, so the last week of August might be a bit busier than it was in 2013 and 2014. But that first week of September should be great touring days.

Unfortunately, I can also report that we will never do August again because of the heat. 2013 was fine, which enticed us to go again. But 2014 had absolutely brutal heat and humidity. It really made the trip less fun.

I'm a teacher in Ontario, Canada. Our board is going back to school Tuesday September 8th (always a full day for us). But teachers must be in school by September 3rd (so we are coming home September 2nd this year). We teach until the last Friday in June. Curriculum dictates 192 teaching days per school year.

Our school calendar is not out yet. We usually start after Labor Day but with it being so late this year, I am not sure if they will try to squeeze a couple of days in before LD. I think Disney will be very crowded at the end of Aug/beg of Sept due to many schools starting later. We went in late Aug last year and it was moderately crowded, more so than I thought it would be. I also agree with pp about the heat, it was unbearable.

There was a thread on here from today where a woman booked her trip then the school calendar came out and she was surprised that her school is starting before LD since they usually go back after LD, so her kids will miss a couple days of school. I am not sure what most schools do when LD is late. I don't think our calendar comes out until April or so.

Texas Public School can't start until the fourth Monday in August, so August 28th.

They have changed this slightly in 2013. Per the NC Public Schools website: "Start date no earlier than the Monday closest to August 26 and end date no later than the Friday closest to June 11." But, yeah, pretty much, the 25th.

(Our county already has the 15/16 calendar posted, and they start back on the 24th in 2015.)

Michigan can't start until after Labor Day, so that takes care of 1 state's start date.
