Have a fab time Bev. :thumbsup2

I have had a rubbish day....couldn't sleep again last night so got up when hubbies alarm went off at 5.30 as I was awake anyway.

Had a stomach ache all morning but had to go over to see my niece as it is her 7th birthday so I picked my mum up & took her round there with me, my sister was in a weird mood, no idea why? :confused3

Then on the way home stopped off at Sainsburys to do the food shopping & got the guys in the car park to wash my car whilst I shopped....save me doing it. ;) Came out after I had done the shopping & they had managed to pull out one of my rear parking sensors. :scared1:  The guy came over & asked for the money, when I asked him about the sensor he didn't say anything & just started trying to shove it back in the hole. Anyway after 45 mins, 4 different people trying to fix it & my frozen shopping melting...he started being really rude to me, told me not to pay for the wash......ERRRR Hello - you are not getting away with it that easy! He asked me how much to repair it so I called BMW who told me £136, he said no way & walked off. I was so angry (they are all non english speaking) & they kept talking to each other & not me, everyone in the entire car park seem to be staring & I was getting really upset. One of the other guys told me to ring the number for the office & sort it out with them, I rang but the manager wasn't in the office so the woman took my details, I had no choice but to come home & am waiting for him to call me back. I have calmed down a bit now but I was so angry.

OMG Claire!!!! That's awful, hun!!! I can't believe how horrid your day is being and I'm crossing my fingers that it picks up from here...   Hope your BMW gets fixed promptly... :sad2:

Had one of those supermarket car park valet guys scratch the special chrome interior trim on my previous car so I never used them again... I was about to use the guys that operate at the gym a couple of weeks ago - until I noticed their trolley bash into the side of a baby Bentley!!! Decided against it and will carry on taking it to the usual hand car wash place...

Thanks Jill and Claire.

Oh dear Claire, not a good day at all, hope everything gets sorted for you, at least, you know you will soon be off to Orlando, makes the holiday even more relaxing when you have got stressed out before you go (well at least that is what I find :))

 What a nightmare Claire, I hope you get it sorted soon

Thanks hun. I called again as it has been a few hours & the woman told me he is still not in the office but she has passed me message on to him, so I told her to tell him it's urgent & I want it sorted asap. I just have a feeling this is not going to end well. :sad2:

I am definately not using them again, I have used them a few times before & never had a problem but after the way they treated me today, not even an apology, never again! :headache: My blood pressure is rising again at the thought of it.

Good Evening everyone

Im another lover of Paris having worked there for a few months years ago. I have done a few day trips there from DLP and there is some info in some of my TRs (on the DLP pages) - Easter 08 2 seperate days and Summer 07

I dont know if you are hoping to go up the Eiffel Tower but the queues are horrendous. I think the best view of it is from Trocadero - you can walk up here from the Tower past all the fountains and then get a metro from here to Charles de Gaulle Etoile (the metro station by the Arc de Triomphe)

I would do this then as suggested walk down the Champs Elysee to Place de la Concorde (it is slightly down hill so easier this way) , into Jardin des Tuileries (stand by the arc de carrousel and look towards the Arc de Triomphe - its a great view) to the Louvre and then onto Notre Dame

We also like the Batobus - which is a boat trip (without commentary) but you can get on and off as much as you like - If you google Batobus you will find info on it including prices and stops. You buy day tickets and get on and off as much as you like

Thanks for that, I knew I would get good advice on these forums.:goodvibes Makes sense Karen what you suggest, I presume the buses are regular and I will have a look out for the Disney store.
The public transport in Paris is fab, Bev. Not much waiting around in my experience. I used buses more than the metro when we lived there - just so easy. Plus I met Johnny Depp on the number 63 and you can't get more of an incentive than that, can you??? :cloud9:

I'm so jealous!!! My DD just texted me to let me know she and her DF are going to Paris from November 4th till 10th - I may have to gatecrash... ;)

Morning everyone -

Im working as usual - a long day as well today as I wont finish til well after 6.00 then I'll spend the evening chilling in front of the TV with my netbook so I can Dis and MSN as well at the same time

What an exciting life I have :rotfl:

Morning Guys

I thought I'd outsmarted jetlag the other day by staying up all day on Sunday and then being able to sleep all night, only to find that I couldn't get to sleep till 2.30am this morning - needless to say, I'm blooming knackered this morning

Anyway, it's back to normality today, and I'm off to see my mum this morning and taking her into Coventry and doing some food shopping for her

Have a nice day everyone, whatever you're up to :)

Morning everyone. Mandy, I know what you mean about the jetlag - I am exactly the same, always really struggle to get to sleep at night :sad2:

Hope your car gets sorted Claire:goodvibes

It took me at least a week to get back to a near normal sleeping pattern - I'm not 100% now and we've been back 2 weeks.

I don't think it helps that we miss a night's sleep on the way home.

Do people who travel from the states during the day suffer as badly? It must be awful for American's who generally have shorter holidays than we do to try and visit UK for a break.

When we used to leave in the afternoon our jet lag used to be very much worse, we were all up and about during the night. The evening flights are a lot easier to get over, I think. We had a few nights of being up till 2 ish which was equivalent to our normal Florida bedtime when you take in the time difference. Just takes your body a while to get back in to sync.

Thanks Karen and ItsASmallWorld for your advice. Looks like we will be doing this route - Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, Champ, Place de la Concorde, Jardin, Louvre, Notre Dame and Sacre Coeur. Is that okay? Doable in 7 hours or less? Just looking at them, not bothered about going in them on this visit.

We obviously have to make sure we are back at the latest at 5.45 to catch train back to London and intend making the Sacre Coeur the last stop. We plan to go to the tube station closest to it, walk up, see it then catch the tube back to Gare du Nord. However, I don't know how long it would take to walk from the tube to Sacre Coeur, anyone got any rough ideas? Also is it a vast distance from Sacre Coeur or is it walkable to Gare du Nord? Thanks for any help.

Hope every one has a good day. Hope your car was sorted out Claire.

I am busy preparing for trip, also helping eldest son as he is off to Hong Kong and Thailand tomorrow. Absolutely dreading the thought of him and his girlfriend wandering around Thailand, just praying he comes home safe on 12th September. Hong Kong I feel okay about as he will be staying with his girlfriend's parents. Also helping the youngest son as he is off tomorrow to the Leeds Festival, so hoping everything goes okay for him because for once we will be away together for the first time in 21 years which I am hugely looking forward to but will be a little bit strange without the lads but then they wouldn't be at home anyway.

It definitely sounds doable, Bev. :thumbsup2 It's a very straightforward route... :goodvibes

The only bit I can't help with is the Sacre Coeur - Gare du Nord section as we lived/spent time in the Left Bank and rarely ventured that far north. I do know that it's never far to walk to a metro in Paris so hopefully that is an indicator but it's a steep trek up to the Sacre Coeur itself so best to be flexible... If you're unsure whether you'll have enough time, it makes sense to stick with the itinerary you've opted for as it's an easy journey from Notre Dame to Gare du Nord!

I kinda know how you feel, Bev. Both my eldest children spent time in Thailand when they wandered around the world in their gap year and I was hugely terrified at the prospect - tho' DD said Los Angeles was the worst place she and her DF visited... From what I can gather, it's so much better to be travelling as a couple so everything should be fine, hun... And September 12th isn't too far away - hope they both have a great time... :goodvibes

When we first went away without our offspring, I spent most of the time saying "Oh, the kids would love this!" I think DH tuned me out after the first hundred times!!! Now, much as I love family time, I LOVE going away on our own!!! Can't wait till we fly to MCO in 2 weeks tomorrow!!! Even if I am beyond behind with my planning... :faint:

So the countdown to craziness continues!!!

I have to confess, this morning I'm slightly daunted by the prospect of:
1) starting a major building project,
2) getting the baby back to school,
3) going on the Girly weekend,
4) departing for an extended 17 day DCL/WDW trip - ALL OVER THE NEXT TWO WEEKS!!! :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

Oh well, what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger - allegedly... ;)

In an attempt to get a grip, last night I ordered a load of magnetic paper and have finally started designing a few door magnets - why oh why don't I just make generic ones that can be used from cruise to cruise??? :sad2:

Anyway, with the revised luggage guidelines in mind, I purchased three new cases. I have spent what seems like ages researching weight/size so glad to finally get that out of the way...

Now I'm turning my attention to planning for the builder's final pre-work visit tomorrow. I've persuaded Richard to take on the role of "difficult client" as he's not around very often so he's going to work from home in order to meet with the guy for the first time - and start making the demands I'm too cowardly to communicate! ;)

I'm off to the gym at 1.30pm and shopping afterwards...

Have a great day, everyone!!! :goodvibes
