Gene Hackman, wife and dog found dead

appears there is an estimated date of death for Mr. Hackmann-February 17th. this is the final day his pacemaker was active. both he and his wife tested negatively for carbon monoxide poisoning and neither showed initial evidence of external trauma.

it's been reported that Mr. Hackman's cane and sunglasses were near his body leading to speculation that he had fallen. I have to wonder if he was on his way in or out of the home (he was found in the mudroom) when he heard his wife shout out or fall in the course of having her OWN medical event. aged 96, reportedly unsteady on his feet...he could have fallen himself and been unable to get up or summon help.

Yes, her death is the more mysterious. Finding out when and what she died of will likely clue everyone in to what happened to him. Also, who did the pills belong to?

For instance, he may have been outside with the dogs. The reason why he had sunglasses on.

He was coming in and he heard his wife yelling for help. She may have been in the process of getting to her pills in time. Or he heard his wife from outside yelling. Either way, he may have tried to rush in to help her. He may have fallen in the process of getting to her.

IF she didn't get to take her pills in time, she fell and/or collapsed, spilling all the pills. (A couple of the pills landed in the dog crate and the dog eventually ingested them as there was nothing else to eat. Or the dog starved to death trapped in the kennel.)

Either Gene had his own heart attack when he fell. Or not hearing her yelling anymore may have triggered one, knowing she was gone and he couldn't get to her.

OR, he may have lain there for a few days, after she died and he slowly died that way.

However it all happened, I hope for both of them, they went quickly. 🙏

I imagine the data from his pacemaker can reveal if it was a heart attack or something that something that caused a less traumatic stopping of the heart.

I hope so as well.

still going with a inhalation event of some kind

bodies had no sign of trauma... both appeared to have fallen suddenly and stayed where they fell.... the dog that was unable to move outside was also deceased.

The pills do not make me sus..... If she was feeling unwell, headache etc, she may have gone for her medication and was overwhelmed in the process of opening.

Pills were for thyroid, Tylenol and blood pressure....

Hopefully it was natural causes/nothing traumatic and they passed quickly (carbon monoxide ruled out).

Unfortunately I watch too many real crime stories plus Colombo, etc. Is there any possibility it was set up this way? This would most likely come into play if there were family issues/who would benefit.

The above scenarios make a lot of sense too.

The dog was crated. It might already gave been ill so they crated it to watch over it. It didn't have food or water for a week.

The other 2 dogs were able to get in & out. I heard there might have been a dog flap in the door. Plus one door was found open so they could have gotten in & out that way and at least gotten water that might have been around.

ABC News' FBI profiling expert consultant does think that all three had contact with the same thing to have taken all of them down.

I am beginning to wonder if Mrs. Hackman had a heart attack or other medical situation and fell trying to get medicine, and was unable to get up or died within a few minutes, then Mr. Hackman fell while trying to get to her and could not get up due to his frail condition. The only thing that would not support this scenario is the fact that they apparently died within a short time of each other.

This is what I also thought was the most likely to happen. She was not well. Tired to take some medication - Stroke/heart attack. She might have/might have not called out to him.......would he have heard her even if the home is big/spread out. Regardless, it's a reaction to call out. He was coming backing for whatever reason and either he fell or also had some medical issue.

Perhaps the dog in the crate was sick..but he was in a crate in the closet.(yes?) Who knows what the reason for this was. All a mystery. Again, I hope they find some answers for the family.

Yes, but remember the size of the closets in those big houses are probably the size of most people's bathroom. It is probably a walk-in closet.

Thought I saw one report from authorities that the term 'closet' was mistakenly used to refer to the 'crate' the dog was in.

Especially considering he lived for a week with his wife already passed on the bathroom floor.

if his alzheimers was as advanced as they report he may have thought her to be resting. I know, odd location but it can happen. my friend who passed from COVID was found to have been comotose for several days at her home before being discovered by her visiting daughter-her dh has alzheimers to a much lesser degree but still...never thought anything odd or off about his wife taking a nap that was several days long :sad1:

He was also walking with a cane. He might have needed her help to get upstairs, if she died upstairs. He might not have ever made it up there to see her laying there.

I can't find it now but I thought they were found on the same floor.

DH's cousin is a CNA at a nursing home and was over for dinner the other night. He said not to put too much stock in the data from the pacemaker as it will sense the irregular heartbeat and keep trying to shock the heart long after the patient has died so his actual date of death was probably quite a bit earlier than the 17th.

Apparently he has been listening to call time of death and been quite startled to hear a heartbeat several times. That pacemaker will essentially keep firing until the battery runs out.

ETA: Now I see the ME is saying his DOD was around the 18th. Ignore me.
