Gender inequality at Turtle Talk!

So in the scheme of things this isn't really a big deal, but we were at Disney last week and went to Turtle talk during an extra magic hour night (so maybe Crush was tired). My 4 year old son was so excited and reeeaaallly wanted to get to ask Crush a question (and not quite realizing that when Crush was asking questions he wasn't actually talking directly to him) but ended up being so disappointed that he never got asked (he was sitting so good up in the front row too). That's not really my beef, what was starting to annoy me (and my dad and husband who was with us) was that every time Crush asked a question, he would pick the "dudette" in the white shell or the "dudette" in the pink shell. Now I have nothing against girls, I am one - but I swear, he asked about 6 questions total and they were all to "dudettes". How about including some of the little "dudes" next time Crush?

You were just there when he happened to pick girls. I've been there several times when he only picked out boys. Sorry, but it happens.

I think you're thinking too far into it. When I was there there was mostly boys.
Why would he have to divide them between boys and girls? What difference does that make? He doesnt ALWAYS ask girls. IMO kids notice more that "I wasn;t picked!" then which gender was picked.

Don't take this wrong, but you, as the adult, have "Gender inequality" in the title of this thread and follow it up with "we as adults can look at it rationally"?? To the kids they just plain didn't get picked, I doubt they analyzed how many girls vs. boys got picked and came up with Crush is a sexist.

We as adults overanalyze everything, that's the fun of being an adult. But, poor timing is a much more rational explanation than gender inequality.

When we were there Crush asked called on dudes and dudettes. However, my DD wasn't one of them and she was, well, crushed.

She was in tears after the show and we had to explain to her that not everybody gets a turn all the time.

The very next day at FOTLK at AK, she was pulled out of the audience to participate in the show. She was thrilled (so were mom & dad -- we shot some great video of her).

After the show we were able to teach her that sometimes you get to do things that others don't and sometimes others get to do things you don't, but that it all works out in the end.

Leave it to WDW -- and some Divine Providence -- to provide a wonderful life-lesson opportunity.

If girls were the only ones ever picked, then you would have something to complain about. I can understand your son being dissapointed. I can understand you feeling bad for him, but come on! Do you want the cm's to only let in equal amounts of boys and girls so that Crush can choose equally? Because if there is 30 boys and 10 girls it wouldn't be right to pick 3 boys and 3 girls. Some other parent would get upset and say that that wasn't fair.

There are so many other wonderful things going on that it would be easy enough for you to distract your son and help him get over his hurt feelings.

I've been to Turtle at least 5 times and I have to say it was an equal amount of dudes and dudettes if you add up the visits....

He can't pick every kid. Somebody is going to be disappointed that they didn't get to ask a question. Sometimes he picks adults. Next thing someone will say he shouldn't pick adults so more kids can get a chance. Can't win.

I totally agree.

So let's say I flip a coin. 50% of the time it will come up "heads."
25% of the time, it will come up "heads" two flips in a row.
12.5% of the time, it will come up "heads" three flips in a row.
6.25% of the time, it will come up "heads" four flips in a row.
3.125% of the time, it will come up "heads" five flips in a row.
1.5625% of the time, it will come up "heads" six flips in a row.

So it's just possible, OP, that there was no chosen "inequality," but rather that you were simply among the 1.5% of shows in which only dudettes were picked. Gnarly.
