Just back from a VERY hot trip to Disney and I purchased the gel neck bands from Wal-mart for around $2.00 Let me tell you it was probably the best $2 i ever have spent. They really cooled you down. Every night we would put them in fridge. When we use them and the they lose there cool we would stick them in our cooler for about 30 minutes and get them really cold again and they would be good as new. They really took the edge off.

When I bought mine a few years back, they were in the camping section, hanging off the end of an aisle. They worked great!

Thanks for the suggestion! I'm going in September and I'll pick some up before I go!

Thanks to some posters I too found the neck bands at Walmart....$2.68 I found them in the sporting goods section, near the baseball stuff hanging on an end rack, the best thing is to ask someone. They look just like a regular bandana (flat) until you soak them in water. Do remember not to put them in a ziploc and forget them. I find it is best to just let the air dry. They have been a life saver for me, not only since we have had a HOT,HOT summer but because I was dying at work, at first I thought it was the beginning of hot flashes!!!:p But since I am only hot at work I have come to the conclusion that for some reason my work area is just hot! :teeth:

What a great idea! Wish I'd known about those last summer. How much are the WDW ones? I'm sure they're more than Walmart's. Thanks for the tip!

I have a very heat sensitive child. Last summer's trip she was miserable with the heat. In June of this year I bought the bandanas before we left home. We will never go to WDW in the summer without them! She really did so much better with the coolie bandana. Definitely worth the money!

I used these when I was preg. on our first visit 8 years ago... they were a lifesaver for me!!

Then a 4thh of July parade with hot hot hot weather forecast, so I ran to wal mart to buy them again... and I've never been so disappointed in my life, they didnt expand...

when you buy them they are really flat, and you can feel beads inside, then you place in water (I've kept them in a glass of water in the fridge!) and those beads absorb the water, and they do cool you down...

so I'm not sure if when I purchased them 2 years ago if I got duds, or if I was just imagining how great they were when I was in wdw pg!!

but for 2 bucks, I'd better go get a couple!! (and I've heard you can get free ice cups at wdw, so I would refresh them in a cup of cold water...)

The gel bandanas are great and I have several now that we use when working in the yard or camping. However, at WDW I use a regular bandana soaked in cold water from a water fountain and/or with ice rolled up in it works great . I just grab 3 or 4 cubes from one of the many places that have bottles in ice and roll them up in the bandana and put around the back of my neck. They are a little messy but I am wet with sweat anyway. They pull triple duty as a face cloth to wipe away the sweat, as a sun block for my neck, and with ice for cooling. Even just a long paper towel from the rest rooms soaked in water feels great in the heat of the day.

Be careful to not soak the gell bandanas too long. The gell will desolve in some if soaked too long.
