And, what would a Scotlass inspired contest be without a reference to the other word she taught us -- kludgie.

P9010147.jpg

Only in America do you get advertising right outside the kludgie! I guess all those bahookies need to be well cared for.

Did the bahookie pics frighten everyone away?

I've not been on the DIS much lately. Some of the bad attitudes started to get to me. There are people who can turn anything into an argument and I just don't understand why. Just reading some threads made me shake my head.

GP should be in the world soon. Hopefully, we'll have some more bahookie shots soon!

Then, it'll be scotlass's turn!

I'm getting excited about our trip. DD10 counted yesterday and we have 259 days till check-in. She made a chart so she can cross off the days.

I'm still here. Just that no one else has been around. Sad to say it looks like our no-life thread might have run it's course. And I was really looking forward to 250 pages so we could start a new thread, just to annoy OP. :snooty: :rotfl:

Run its course? Bite your tongue. We can make it 15 more pages. Would you like me to annoy you with stories about my kids? You would, ok, here goes. DS has been building towers in the living room then knocking them down. He's playing "Destroyed in Seconds." My kids watch WAY too much Discovery Channel.

He could have a great future as an architect or a contractor. Never know where the inspiration for their future will come from.

And FWIW, I'm always up for kid/family stories. :thumbsup2

No, we cannot let this thread die or run its course. We must pay tribute to the OP by keeping it going.

Kerrie, kids stories are always welcome. I love that DD10 is counting down from 259. I thought you guys were going in May but your ticker says 8 months which is June. I must be confused. Nothing new there.

Don't let the negative people get you down. There are some posters on the dis who are so predictable. I'm sure we all have our favorites, I know I've got some that I'd like to challenge to a smackdown. I get made fun of on at another site from posts that I make over here, my lobster phobia was a big hit. :rotfl: In the end, we're all on for entertainment purposes.

How is homeschooling going?

PK, besides the dessert party, did you have any spectacular meals at WDW? I will be booking soon and I'm going to be taking a 7 year old girl. My first time taking a girl to WDW. I'm kind of at a loss. I think I'm going to book one of those VIP guides for the MK but that's all the thought I've put in so far.

Judi, snap, scotlass :wave2:

GP, hope you are enjoying some grog at the World.

DH was supposed to meet some guy at Cabela's today at 2. DH was selling some old jeep parts. DH ended up tied up, so I met the guy. The kids wanted to go so that they could look at the "dead animals." So, I spent part of my afternoon looking at "dead animals." Ahhh, memories....

No,nay never......I'll fill up the last 13 pages with Bahookie shots alone.

Im even buying a new camera ( point and shoot/idiot proof, any suggestions would be appreciated ) so I can get the best bahookies possible !! :rotfl2:

Ive had " stuff " keepin me busy but I love our wee thread and would be well gutted if it died....:sad1:

Hi everyone!

Pakey, I don't think I've ever had an outstanding meal at Disney, but that's because we have meat n' potatoes kind of taste. We're probably one of the only families that doesn't look forward to eating in Epcot, because we're not very adventurous. I did have great steak at Coral Reef (last year) and fantastic steak at Le Cellier (this year). We also enjoyed 50's PTC (good old fashioned cookin' and great interaction), LTT (basic turkey and potatoes) and Sci-Fi (burgers and fries and a fun atmosphere). And my daughter raves over Toy Story Pizza Planet. :confused3 :lmao: There are also many, many restaurants we've never eaten in. We try at least one or two new places per trip but it will take many, many future trips to try them all. :)

As far as other activities, I would think a 7 year old girl would love either BBB or Pirates League, depending on her taste. The Pirate Cruise also sounds like a lot of fun, but we didn't get the chance to try it last trip.

Good luck with your planning and let us in on the planning. I'm not living vicariously through all of you. Now that my trip's over, I don't have a life!

Scotlass, I'm in the market for a new camera too. I somehow lost mine on our last visit to Los Angeles (where oldest son and wife live). I have postponed buying a new one because I'm not sure what to get. It seems that on the dis, most people recommend Canon. But I have to have a small one, I like having it fit into my pants pocket because I don't like to carry a bag into the parks.

Kerrie, dead animal viewing sounds like a lot of fun :rotfl:. The boys used to love stuff like that too.

PK, we have dined at all but about 5 places at WDW. My son's fiancee's daughter is very hyper so I'm thinking some character meals and counter service meals are the way to go with her. We are very adventurous eaters so we don't care where we eat; I want the little girl to have a great time. The only place that is for sure is Donald's breakfast at AK.

The 4 oldest kids and I went to church this morning. I look over at DD4 and she has her dress up around her waist. Everyone in the back of the church could see her Littlest Pet Shop monkey panties. Classy...

Pakey, sorry I haven't answered your question about homeschooling, yet. It's going well. I'm still working out the details, but I knew the first year would be bumpy. I have to figure out our schedule better and make sure our curriculum fits everyone. But, I'm already seeing the benefits. DD10 has told me twice how something makes more sense to her and that now she understands it. She said she wishes they had taught her these things in school because it would have been easier. DD4 is already learning things, too. DD2 wants a workbook like the big kids, but they don't really make them for 2 yr olds. I'm trying to get her to use coloring books, but she's not fooled. She knows she's not getting instruction from me. They seem to learn the most when we go where their interest leads us. We did a couple of days on snakes, snake lessons, art projects, books, etc. They love Shel Silverstein's Boa Constrictor poem. I heard that for days. They tried coming up with new lines for it, they really wanted a rhyme for he's up to my butt. All in all, it looks like it will work out for us. I'm especially excited because we can now vacation when WE want to, not when school is out. I think I have DH talked into Disney World Dec 2011 and Sept 2013 for MNSSHP. A little early, I know, but its harder for him to back out if I start planning now. ;)

:rotfl: I swear, I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed at times. Kerrie, I can't tell you how many times we've been to WDW in the off season and I've commented to my husband about how I can't believe how many people take their children out of school. It never dawned on me that the majority of them are probably homeschooling. :rotfl:

I'm glad it's going so well. I would imagine its much harder on you than your "students" since you are teaching at different levels simultaneously, including your 2 year old wannabe scholar. And the snake studies sound like great fun; I wish I was in Texas because I'd come to your school too.

My dilemna for the week is where to stay, where to stay in May. I currently have us booked for 4 nights at Beach Club and 3 nights at Treehouse Villas. We always stay at Beach Club so I'm thinking of changing those 4 nights. My 7 month window opens this coming Saturday. But what is better than Beach Club and Stormalong Bay? My son wants to stay at Animal Kingdom so bad but I'm thinking that Bay Lake would be better with a 7 year old girl due to close proximity to Magic Kingdom. I'm not a planner but this is seriously causing me to lose sleep. I'm keeping Treehouse Villas for sure. I don't care that it's a pain to get to the parks, I want to sit in the trees and relax.

I'm sure the majority are homeschooled, but I was one of those parents who pulled her DD out of school for a trip (2x)! ;) Of course, it was 3rd and 4th grade (or possibly 4th and 5th, who remembers), but it also meant about 20 hours of work to make up and it all had to be made up before she returned to school. She knew the consequences of our trip and took it like a trooper. I also didn't worry much because she was a straight A/A+ student. I'm happy to report that there were no drops in her grades because of our little excursions.

Now, however, different story. Can't/wouldn't pull her out of 8th grade. Nor would I pull her out next year for Freshman year of high school. Spoke w/the teacher in charge of the Honors Program at our public high school next year and got all the info I'll need. It would be great of DD could get into the honors program but we'll see. She's still pushing for all girls Catholic High School (because that's where most of her friends will be going and also because it's the "safest" option because she'll know people), but I really don't want to spend $40K (minimum) over the next four years for high school. Just don't see that I'll get that much of a return on my money (so to speak) for that price. :confused3 I'd rather bank that money and have more for college, KWIM? Ah, the trials and tribulations of parenting. :rotfl:

Sounds like you've got a lot to consider Pakey, but with 2 or 3 possible trips coming up in the next few years, I'm sure you could try everything on your list. I'd love to stay at the Beach Club someday. :cloud9: I was watching someone else's TR and I fell in love with the place from the pics. Don't know if you've ever been to CBR, but I love it there. Very laid back, relaxed, peaceful vibe and I love the tropical theming. Whatever you decide, please feel free to share with those of us who don't have anything planned. :cool1:

Here's a difference between public and homeschool. In the middle of a public school lesson, you don't have to stop teaching to pull fruit snacks out of a pink, plastic, princess toaster.

I'm new to this thread (just happened to click on it out of curiosity). We actually homeschooled our daughter (who is now in pharmacy school and married, so she's all grown up).

We actually started with her at age 2 using A Beka 2 year old materials (https://www.abeka.com/ABekaOnline/SampleGallery.aspx). Often you can find the materials on ebay or through other google searches if you'd like to find them cheaper. She thought the materials were fun, and they were very educational. The Art books were great too!

When she was 2 1/2, we were at a church dinner, and our pastor was talking to her. My husband told her to tell him what the vowels were that she had been learning. She said, "A, E, I, O, U, and sometimes Y". The pastor smiled indulgently and said, "You forgot about R!" She looked up and said, "No, sir, R is a consonant." I'll never forget the look on his face...

I hope you enjoy your time homeschooling. DD and her new husband have both said that if they ever have any children, they plan on homeschooling them. She found it to be a great experience! :goodvibes

I actually have Abeka art books for my 6 and 4 yo. I didn't realize they had them for 2. I haven't really wanted to formally teach her, yet. I figure she has plenty of time for that. Right now, she really seems to enjoy some posters I got her. We lay them on the floor and point out the colors, shapes, and ABCs. She uses the calendar for numbers. I wanted to keep all of her learning geared towards play. We have geometric linking shapes, pattern blocks, bear counters, play money, etc. that I pull out for her to use while we have school. But, if she keeps wanting to do everything the older kids are doing, I'll probably have to order her some curriculum. I'm actually quite impressed with how much my younger ones want to learn. I didn't plan on doing too much with my 4 yo except preschool stuff, but its not enough for her. I'm doing Five in a Row with her and DS6 at the same time, she's learning phonics, and she's doing her the kindergarten math workbook that DS6 brought home last year. I'm definitely noticing a difference, and I'm happy I finally had the courage to homeschool. I just didn't realize the little ones would want to learn so much already. :goodvibes

PK, we used to pull our kids out of school for snow ski vacations all of the time but also stopped when they hit junior high. 2 of the 3 were mediocre to bad students so it was always very hard to take them out and have them do homework in the ski lodges in the evenings. I don't think we would have done it except it's pretty hard to go snow skiing over summer vacation. :lmao:

Beach Club is very nice. It's my favorite just due to the location. My fave fave is the GF, of course. It's such an old lady hotel. :rotfl: I have never stayed at a moderate; some day we might have to try it. We mostly stay at the DVC resorts now since I have more points than any sane person should own.

Horseshowwoman (or HSW), welcome, hope you come back to chat again.

Kerrie, I'm soooo jealous you have a pink plastic princess toaster. Actually, I was kinda jealous of the Pet Shop Monkey undies too.
