Hey all, was at DL last night and asked one of the guys at the DVC booth a few questions. I asked many questions to which he did not know the answers, but here is what he did tell me. (all of which I take, and suggest you take, with a grain of salt)

1. GVC points will not go on sale until much closer to actual occupancy than the points in FL did. This is due to CA timeshare laws being stricter on this aspect. Construction is going as planned with an expected completion of November of 2009. He said he thought points going on sale this year was a very big maybe. I got the impression next year was more the reality.

2. MF are expected to be higher in Cali due to property taxes (or that was a sales pitch to buy AKV points.)

3. The models are now open. Though there could still be some design changes. For example, right now there is a murphy bed under the TV and the design folks don't like how you see all the wires when the bed is down.

4. I was not at the preview event in May but allegedly the big change from then to now is the lighting. I guess they used some authentic arts and crafts lighting by a famous designer that was way to expensive, and they have substituted for cheaper but similar lighting.

BTW, I read in another thread folks saying the room looked boring or under decorated. I totally agree. But with my limited research, it appears the decor is very in line with the traditional arts and crafts movement. I have not seen the room myself yet since the models were closed for the day by the time I got to the park yesterday, but the main color in the room should be the lighting, and I have not seen any pics of lamps either to know if that is true.

5. According to the guy I spoke with, anyonewho bought in Cali qualifies as part of the Founding Member program to have first dibs at points; even if it was a few years ago. I have a call into my guide to confirm this. (I know many of us have heard different stories on this issue.)

Just thought I would share wit all those other folks interested in DVC arriving closer to home!

Founding member program lol, that and $.02 will get you $.02.:rotfl2:

I doubt the fees will be higher as GC will not have transportation costs like the resorts in FL. Initial articles said MF will be around $4 which is in line with the FL resorts.

Thanks for the interesting tidbits! :goodvibes

Does anyone know what the California timeshare laws are with regard to selling before construction completion?

I'm one who hopes that the Founders' program ends up being worth not much of anything and that there are plenty of points left over for the rest of us!

I thought the models were beautifully done, in the Craftsman style (minimalist)

We did see the murphy bed, thought the guide indicated that it was for the 5th person in the unit

Guide also pointed out that the lighting we saw (again, would be happy to have it in my own home) was the latest version

One nice touch, the windows had the view of the park inserted in them, what a view they will have.:goodvibes

FYI, my guide confirmed today that even though we bought our DVC ownership in 2006, since we purchased at DL we would be "grandfathered" (my word she used) into the "founding members" program, giving us first dibs at the GCV points. Now I just need to decide if I will ever plan a trip to DL more than 7 months out. . . .:confused3

this is exactly why I wont purchase GCV! As a very local SoCal resident I will never book at the 11 month window. Oh well.........

Up to six months before getting final approval of the timeshare development by the state. It is a little hazy because you can get that final approval while still having a little left to do on completing the resort so it can actually be a little longer than 6 months before opening of the resort. Moreover, that 6 month period can be extended to a year.

I'm not going to buy there, but I would like to go next Christmas, so I'm hoping I can get in at the seven month mark.

I know what you mean...our Fall trips to DL are usually planned in advance, but most of our trips are in the 3-6 month range.

I agree. We thought the rooms were very well designed, with a definite Craftsman style to them. Very much in line with the rest of the resort. They also feel more upscale than the Kidani or WLV rooms, IMO. The murphy bed is very cool, and the dining table is huge. Much larger than any of the dining tables at any of the other DVC's.
