Could someone explain what you view in a Theme Park view and a Standard view at the GCH. Is the Theme Park view worth the extra expense?

I didn't get a standard view both of the times I've stayed there, but the theme
park view is overlooking the right side of DCA. You can see Grizzly River Run
and other attractions near there. If you're on a higher floor, you can pretty
much see the whole park. There is also a Downtown Disney view, and we had
that view the first time we stayed at GCH. I LOVED it because we love to
people watch and just enjoy the overall splendor when we sit out on the balcony.
Luckily, the man who normally plays the violin was performing right
where our room was, so my parents, fiancee, and I sat and just listened for
an hour. It was relaxing after a long days of walking.

Theme park view is of DCA, the hotel is right in the park. Our view was of the Grizzly River Rapids ride. It was awesome, and worth every penny! But the prices were a bit more reasonable when we stayed there back then (that was 2001).

Last year we had a standard view. Which for us was the front of the hotel/parking lot. We could also see DLH and PP in the background. To the right was DTD, we could see part of the monorail go by. There are also courtyard views for the standard rooms.

I enjoyed the theme park view, but I don't think we paid extra for it. It was just the room we ended up w/. Here are a couple pics from our window.

We also have had a room above the WOD and got to see the fireworks from our balcony.
A lot of times our room faces the courtyard, so the monorail will pass by and I like catching it in action.

We had a standard view this last trip (I was paying for three rooms and just couldn't justify the extra cost) The view was of pine trees..I couldn't really figure it out more than that until the fireworks night when you could kinda see the fireworks if you leaned a little and looked over the trees..

The first time we stayed in GCH, we got a room with a Downtown Disney view because of someone else's last minute cancellation. That was great, looking down at the Christmas lights and busy people strolling through DTD. Plus, we got the added benefit of seeing the fireworks perfectly from the balcony, too, which was better than trying to see them in the park! Last December, we stayed at GCH again and got the standard view of a parking lot or something - actually, I think we had a view of the two other Disney hotels. BUT, we could do without the view just to stay in this hotel. Yes, will all agree here that it IS super-pricey, but this is the best hotel of the three to stay in at Christmas time. If you are like me and my group of Disneyland lovers, during the holidays, you want to do something special and the hotel is part of the whole Disney experience. We LOVED just sitting in that huge lobby/hearth area and people watching, looking at the beautiful tree and the gorgeous 'rustic chalet' kind of wood decor, listening to the carolers singing holiday tunes or the piano player entertaining the guests. It was such a nice, comfortable and warm place to sit and have a quality chat with my friends, and I love it there. I am not saying I will ALWAYS be able to stay at GCH because I cannot always afford to, and I do enjoy the other hotels as well, but to me, every once in a while, it is worth the splurge!

Thanks for the replies everyone. ;) Sounds like some of the views are really nice, but I don't know if I would be happy with a view of the parking lot for all that money. I do enjoy sitting on the balcony in the morning when everyone else is asleep. We may have to go for the extra money:confused:

Yes, by all means, if you can afford the extra money, go for a view. Now, mind you, it doesn't necessarily have to be the view of Disneyland, as that one IS the most expensive, but if you go for the view of DTD like I had, that is slightly cheaper, and it is a great view. If I had the money, I would probably stay at the GCH every year and ALWAYS get a room with a view. But I love it there at Christmas time, so if I have to give up the view to pay more for the holiday peak-season room rates, then I will, but I would prefer the view of something other than the other two hotels! Have fun! I envy you for going! I have been trying to get a Holiday 2008 trip together involving a stay at GCH, but things are not going as I had planned so far. I am crossing my fingers that circumstances will turn in my favor in the next few months!
