GCH - Room requests

We are headed to the GCH later this month, there are 2 adults and 3 kids in our group. We booked a standard room, which sounds like it can come with a variety of sleeping arrangements. Ideally we would want 2 queens and a pull out couch and not a pull out chair. Are we able to call to put the request in and what are our chances of it being granted?

Thanks!

Yes, you can call and make a request. They'll make a note of it but won't guarantee it. I think you have very good chances of getting the 2Q and daybed.

Note that the GCH does not have pull out couches, per se. For parties of 5, they have 2 queens with a day bed (a single small/almost twin sized bed that pulls out from under the small couch but is not like a typical pull-out sofa bed) or 2 queens with a sleeper chair. Two queens and a day bed is (I think) the most common room configuration at the GCH. The other option with a party of 5 on the reservation would be 2 queen beds and a sleeper chair. The sleeper chair is like a mini pull-out sofa, and is the width of the chair (smaller than a twin by a little). For a younger child, the day bed gives the advantage of having a solid “wall” of the back of the sofa on one long edge of the bed. The pull out chair has nothing on the sides (the original back of the chair is at the head of the bed when folded out).

I would definitely add this request (and no others) to your reservation with Disney travel. When you check in, make sure you have this configuration at the front desk, and let them know you are willing to wait longer for a room with that configuration, if needed, if it is very important to you.

You can see both options here, shown with a King, but your room will have 2 queens and either a day bed that comes down from the couch, or a sleeper chair.

Thanks so much for the advice, very helpful! Do I call the Hotel Reservations phone number from the website?

I would call Disney Travel, where you made your reservations. If you did it online or elsewhere, the number is 714-520-5060.

I feel pretty confident that you will get this configuration if you request it and are flexible on check in time.

Yes we just booked online so I wasn't sure which number to call, thanks for your help!

Is there any way to make room requests online or on the app?
Not that I know of. Even if you can, I would still call as well. I generally call and make my request and then call again shortly before my trip. And I always go to the front desk on arrival rather than checking in online because I want to make sure that my request is on their radar. Almost always I'm told either "Good news! Your room is ready!" and it's not anything like what I requested, or "I'm sorry, but we won't have that room available until 4." In that case, I ask the desk CM to show me on the map where the room is and if it's good, I tell them that 4:00 is fine. Sometimes it takes that long but normally it doesn't. I'm not hugely picky--don't care about the view-- but I definitely have some locations I dislike and will avoid.

Edited to add: the desk CMs are usually super friendly and nice and will try to accommodate you within reason.

Are we better to check in online or wait until we get there? I did call to add our room request to our reservation.

When I phoned they said if you check in online once your room is ready the app will tell you which type of room it is (ie daybed or chair). If we get assigned a room with a chair, can I still go to the desk when we get there to see if we can be moved?

yes, you can go to the check-in and see if they have anything else. When i want something specific I just wait and ask and then usually are able to change my room if it wasn't the 2 queen or 1 king i need. But sometimes they are booked and you get what you get.

Agree with the PP, I did the same on our last trip. I did mobile check-in and we were assigned a room fairly early in the day...but then I realized it was a ground floor room, which we did not want. When we arrived, I just asked nicely if they had anything higher up available. The CM was super nice and was able to find a room on the third floor, just off the lobby. It was a great location!

Last time we had a woods/courtyard view and requested to be near the Napa elevator and I gave a range of numbered rooms I wanted and a desired floor

We didn’t get the floor we wanted but we got that view of Grizzly River Run (through a whole lot of trees! 😅😅😅)

I had called with my room request and had it added to my reservation and then called 10 days prior to verify my request was still in place)
