We're doing a split stay between GCH and then DLH because we couldn't decide on one over the other so we want to experience both. We have stayed at both previously many moons ago.

My question is, are the standard rooms in both hotels the same square footage regardless of room type, i.e., King, 2 Queens, etc.?

TIA.

I kept looking around and found the answer to my question  which is, yes, they are all the same square footage.

GCH rooms are smaller than DLH. As far as how a king compares to a queen I don't know.

As far as swimming laps, I'd call the hotel, but I've never heard of letting people swim laps before the pool opened. Most people go as soon as the pool opens to get an empty pool, but I don't have any experience with being able to swim before a pool is open.

Actually, Lyn--they are NOT the same square footage. Grand Californian is quite a bit smaller that Disneyland Hotel as far as square foot. I know this because I am a mom of 3 and this matters to us to I also looked into it! Do you need the exact numbers? I can provide that.

Having stayed at both -- DLH stand room's seemed to be bigger then standard rooms at the Grand. I have to use an ECV to get around DL/DCA ( I could get a GAC but I do not as I would miss the fun of standing in line with other guests) I had to park the EVC in the doorway area that is between the bathroom and the closet. sigh (:. I could not park it near the sliding glass door as then I could not get off the EVC unless I slid off then to the other bed. Couldn't park it between the beds as there was no room. Let me remind you it was a solo trip -- so just me.

At the DL hotel we had 4 people, an EVC and luggage for 4 people. We had plenty of room. The girls were teenagers so that also says something about the room. It is big.

We stayed at the PPH last time we went as a family. My husband with daughter, son-in-law and grandkids in a room next door. PPH does not have handicapped rooms that connect :(. The kids had plenty of room -- PPH has the largest rooms. We went on a trip before my daughter had the first grandchild and we stayed at the PPH. Son-in-laws bf drove over from AZ to visit-- we just put a roll away in for him and still had plenty of room. Yep 5 adults of various ages doing the Disneyland walk.

Any how-- Even with the room being smaller you will love the Grand hotel. It is well worth staying there once or twice-- OK since I have stayed there I have been spoiled.

Have a wonderful time :)

The rooms at the Grand are considerably smaller. Also, different rooms are different sizes at the hotels.

okay, here you go...

The Disneyland Hotel has 990 rooms and suites. Standard rooms are 415 square feet with either a king-size bed or two queen-size beds and will accommodate up to five people. In addition to the 930 standard hotel rooms there are 60 one- two- or three-bedroom suites, ranging in size from 740-3,400 square feet.

The Grand Californian has 745 rooms and suites. Standard rooms are 353 square feet, with either a king-size bed and sleeper sofa, two queen-size beds, two queen-size beds and a day bed, or one queen-size bed and and a set of two bunk beds available. The bunk beds also include a trundle bed. Some rooms have day beds for the fifth person, but all that is guaranteed for a fifth occupant is a sleeping bag for the floor.

The Paradise Pier Hotel has 481 rooms and suites. Standard rooms are 364 square feet with either a king-size bed or two queen-size beds. Many rooms have a day bed and will accommodate up to five people. In addition to the 460 standard hotel rooms there are 29 suites, ranging in size from 792-1,245 square feet. Cabana and poolside rooms are available to concierge level guests.

Well, I have stayed in about 5 different types of rooms at the DLH, and I can tell you not all rooms are 415sf. Next trip, I will bring my tape measure because I would like to verify that claim. A couple years ago, the rooms were advertised as 324sf, and I know they did not enlarge the rooms when they remodeled.

I've been in a regular 2 queen/day bed room that was a fair size room. I have also been in a 2queen/day bed room that was probably 30sf smaller than the prior one. And we have had a king room that was probably not much larger than 225sf.

ETA - Where did you get these numbers? Disney's website shows different quantities of rooms. They show a total of 975 total guest rooms at DLH, 948 at GCH, and 481 (same) at PPH.

Where did these numbers come from?

We have stayed at all 3. I agree that DLH standard is bigger than GCH standard, but in our experience PPH standard rooms were the biggest.

After multiple visits to all 3 , we choose quality over size and prefer GCH. ....But when I say that it is coming from a hotel snob of a woman with a family of 4 that likes the bunk bed rooms.
By the way... we have always gotten our request of bunk bed rooms at GCH.

I agree with this. We stayed in a 2 queen day bed room where there was NO room to walk between the bed and the window. We have also had a 2Q room without a day bed because one wouldn't have fit.

Here are a couple pictures that may help.

This is DLH standard room theme park view. (The view was a rip off here)
You can see in this pic that the bed was less than a foot from the window.

Same room. Not enough space for the room service cart.

Here is GCH standard. You can see the large open space between the bed and bunk bed. It was big enough to have the room service cart with the sides lifted up.

PPH space around beds was similar to DLH, but space between tv and beds was slightly wider.

The DLH has a lot more variety of sq footage than the other 2. Because of its age and the fact that the towers weren't all built at the same time, it has an inconsistent pattern so you can't really go by a "standard." In general, the rooms are quite a bit larger than the GCH room *but not always.* MOST rooms at DLH have 2 queens + daybed and there is a lot of space. I think almost all of the rooms in the Adventure tower are spacious but the other two have some odd-sized rooms including some very tiny ones. We were once given a room in the...whatever the lobby tower is now called...and it was a room made of the space leftover from having an elevator bank carved out of it. It was like a long hallway from the entry door to a room barely big enough for a bed. I'm not even sure it was a queen sized bed and there was no room for a dresser! We did not accept that room, by the way. In the Frontier tower, there are very large rooms that have more space than the other towers and some that are smaller. As I said, though, MOST of the rooms at DLH are the nice-sized 2 Q + daybed rooms.

GCH rooms are smaller. Most of them don't have room for a daybed. The bunk bed rooms seem small to me but that's probably because we are a family of 5 and use the pull-out trundle. With the trundle out there is NO space in the room and the bed on the floor (trundle) goes right up to the queen bed so my dd was worried she'd get stepped on accidentally. The height of the bed also could visually reduce the space and make it seem smaller. My girls did not like sitting in the top bunk as they couldn't see the TV (although we didn't use it much). I felt the room was too small for 5 of us and much prefer a regular GCH room with 2 queens. We don't mind the room size at GCH because it's big enough for us and we enjoy the balcony. I love the rooms at DLH best but GCH is also nice and has many neat things to enjoy. The ambiance is totally different at each and special in its own way.

I won't comment much on PPH because I've only stayed there once and you didn't ask about it, but I don't consider it in the same league as the other two.

We have had 2 smaller rooms in the Adventure tower. One was a 2-queen no day bed. There was barely room for the 2 beds and a small walkway in front of the tv. There was no room to set up a crate for my daughter's service dog, let alone room for my ECV. (We changed rooms.) I think the odd rooms appear through out the resort.

Was that room near the elevator, by any chance?

Well, that kills my belief that all the rooms are basically the same in that tower! I always request Adventure and have always had the same sized room except for the two times I stayed in a suite. I had been told by a CM that it was the newest and not as liable to have different room sizes as the other two towers, but obviously there are still some odd ones!

This sounds like the room we got. I called to change and was told that I would have to stay there the first night and switch the second. We chose to just keep it, but lesson learned about late check in.

Thanks for all the input. The pictures from lana772 were very helpful as I'm a visual person.

I'm glad I know about the smaller odd rooms so just in case we get it, I know to ask to be switched.

No, it was actually across to the right of an elevator!!
