How dare a parent express concern over what their children might see on vacation!!!

Following the logic of some, maybe Disney should have Heroin Days, then the know-it-alls at DIS could explain how it would be ok to expose their teenagers to that culture.

see, i'm pretty sure you can feel free to organize groups for whatever reason you want in this country. expect some backlash, sure, but i'm pretty sure it's legal whether others appreciate it or not.

and disney appears to not have a problem with it. which might be something to celebrate since disney USED to have a problem with it. in fact, it wasn't until someone recently made a public stink about it that disney world decided it was okay to take money from gay couples wishing to commit to each other.

and there was once upon a time where security actively interfered with a gay couple trying to dance during a grad nite at disneyland several years ago.

so i say if they want to celebrate, so be it. if you want to participate, join them. if not, don't. your opinion shouldn't interfere with the lives of others though, that's a core concept of what i'd consider america to be.

i don't think a few days in orlando is enough. there should be a national gay history month.

You do know that Gay Days is not a Disney sponsored event!! It was a time when Gays who loved Disney decided to gather there.

Heroin is illegal. Homosexuality is not.

Teaching values is one thing. Teaching hate, discrimination, and intolerance is another thing entirely.

I do have a problem with the idea of Gay Days, though. I am sick of special interest groups always getting some sort of "special" treatment. A lot of people in this thread made good points as to how ridiculous the idea of special days just for gay people is. Why isn't there an "Obese Days" or "Autism Days" or if you really want to start something, how about "White People Days?" It really is stupid. Stop segregating yourself from the rest of society if you really want to be accepted.

I was not clear, I was just prefacing, I didn't mean that Disney treated them special. You made my point better than I could have. Why make it a point to segregate yourself if you really want to blend in? I understand they don't like the criticism they get, which begs the point, "Why do it?" I just think its silly.

well, technically disney could stop white week or gay week (and it's gay DAYS). it's a private entity, you check the bill of rights at the door. they can deny access to anyone for any reason. may not make for the best business decision however depending on the case, but i wouldn't expect to see a neo-nazi convention or farfur reunion there anytime soon.

it always amazes me how this could bring up heated topic discussion while everyone lets arielcon go by without so much of a murmur. if anything should be stopped and not have children subjected to it, it's arielcon.

I agree completely. This got completely out of hand earlier this week just as its starting to now. The OP asked about crowds only and now its going completely in another direction. I don't get it.

I was at WDW May/June 2007 during Gay Days with my DH & DD13. I didn't see any PDA or inapproriate behavior. The weather was great, it rained one evening, through the night, and into the next a.m. (tropical storm something). I noticed some red shirts, but the crowds were quite manageable. I would go back that week in a heartbeat.

To some that is teaching a value. If you want tolerance you have to be tolerant yourself. It works both ways. Don't condem someone for raising their kids how they so choose. That is being a hypocrite.

Does that including intolerance over other people's OPINIONS? If someone does not want to expose their children to the homosexual lifestyle, that is their CHOICE.

Just another example of how if you don't believe how someone else believes, you are intolerant, discriminatory and yes, you must hate them.

If you have a problem with homosexuality, if you are worried that your children will see someone acting in a way that you are not comfortable with them seeing, then exercise your right as their parent and don't go. I have friends who are gay and while I love THEM, I DO NOT condone their lifestyle. And for the record, my gay friends understand and support my CHOICE 100%. And they don't condemn me for my beliefs.

How exactly is teaching values teaching hate, discrimination and intolerance? Did the poster say they were going to throw stones and try to stop the event? All they said was that they didn't want to expose their children to something they didn't agree with. Isn't that better then going during that time and turning up their nose and saying horrible things to their children about what they see? By the way I have been several times during gay days and have seen nothing that offended me any more than any other time I have gone.

Good luck! We ran into some of both groups (stupid & rude) during our trip. Just imagine if they had a very intelligent, polite gay week....would that make a difference???
