For what its worth, I just wanted to show my support for everything you said. I, for one, think its better if my children observe gay couples at a young age-- I think only that brings tolerance and understanding (which we do not have enough of in this country). Also your post brought me to tears. I hope someday you and your SO can experience Disney the way you like without facing any hostility.

Please add my support and thanks for an eloquent letter. :)

Okay, I'm going to get it for this.....

If I can avoid a gay/lesbian celebration, I will do so, because it does make me uncomfortable. It's just not my thing. In fact, we chose March this year instead of the end of May/June for just that reason. (also it's starting to get too hot).

Does that make me homophobic? I don't think so, but call it what you want, I'll be okay. I just realize that everyone is different, and have value systems that may or may not match my own. I won't discriminate, because everyone has the right to choose what is right for them. Please don't get upset simply because I've chosen that it's not right for me and that I want to avoid being exposed to the gay lifestyle.

Like everyone, we all have the right to respectfully disagree with one another. Just as long as we remember......respectfully.

Some previous posters on this topic have been scolded simply because they have expressed the desire to stay away from gay days at DW. It's their choice. It's also their business what those reasons are.

It's okay to think being gay is right. It's also okay to think it's wrong. Just as long as we treat eachother with the respect that we all deserve.

Please don't punish someone because they choose to make a choice on when to go and want to gather as much information as they can before choosing.

Somebody find me this George Bush discrimination speech. I'm curious to hear it. And spare me the overly naive "church and state aren't separated" garbage. This is nearly the most inane comment in this thread. It's driven by emotion and not logic. For starters, I don't go to church but the President does so be it. So did Clinton. So did Carter, etc. I hope people teach their kids to teach tolerance of others. Believe me, liberal-minded folks need to do this probably as much, if not more, than conservative. People on both extreme disgust me with their "I'm right, you're wrong" mentality.

I'll stand by and wait for the broad strokes to be painted on me but before you do:

1) I'm going to gay days
2) I vote libertarian
3) I understand the true meaning of tolerance.

The KKK, the American Nazi Party, and Heroin use are all CHOICES. I know not everyone will agree with me, but being gay is really not a choice; it is a characteristic you are born with, just like any other characteristic...and as such, WHY should anyone CARE if someone is gay or straight? It's not like disagreeing with the values of the Nazi party...it's more like disagreeing with the values of green eyes :confused3

So yes, you're intolerant. Your discomfort is based on something people are born with, not anything they can control. Am I intolerant of your beliefs? Yes, absolutely. You choose your beliefs. Am I intolerant of homosexuality? No, I'm accepting, in fact...be what you were born to be. Be a good person and I don't really care what gender you're looking for romantically.

Now, I'm anticipating that there will be a group of people arguing that being gay is a choice...but let me ask you, could you choose NOT to be straight? I am a straight woman, totally supportive of the gay community, but I certainly couldn't choose to be a lesbian...it just doesn't work for me; that's not what I was born to be.

Exactly it is NOT a choice. B/c God knows I never would of chosen to be discriminated and tortured for my teen years. And i wouldn’t choose not to have rights, or the ability to have a child of "our own". I could go on and on. Not to mention that there is scientific proof among the medically community that homosexuality has a gene. Its genetic, not a choice. While there are people who can "go both ways" this is not common. They are confused, they are the grey area. But in no way is it a choice. Those who think it is against their religion "mainly catholic" are amusing to me b/c they get that from the bible which was written in a time when everything was written to promote health. For example according to the bible you will go to hell if you eat shell fish. So if you eat shrimp...you're screwed. This is just one example. I could go on and on. Religions were created by humans. They are filled with flaws, and created in a time when the world was much different and they needed things to be a certin way for health reasons. Also the way "homosexuality" was referenced in the Bible is not the way it is meant today. Again I coudl go on and on, but its not my job to educate the narrow minded. There are books out there on the topic, take a look if youd like to make your own decisions, as aposed to what you're told to think. I tend to think that God favors no group. Only religions do that.

I am probably saying something in a place I don't belong. Don't think for a minute that I am against anyone. I live my life without getting the ok, and I could care less what someone else does with their life as long as they leave me out of it. I am a private person, that is just who I am.
With that being said, I noticed the reference's to the bible, and I now have a question. If homosexuality is ok in god's eye's then why did he even take the time to create eve from adam? After the chapter of genesis goes through the complete thing, and no where in there do I get the slightest hint that god intended same sex's to be together.
Everyone can do what they want but I do have to agree with anyone wanting to shelter their children while they are young. Look at this world, and look at what a child knows when they are little. I would love to live that world of innocence again. They will grow up too fast, I dont' think sheltering makes you guilty of not telling your kids the truth. We are choosing to go in June 5-12, we have to go then because of school. Whether there is gay days, star wars...whatever my children will just see the magic. This is why we go, I don't care who plays Buzz, I just care about the smile it puts on my kids face. Hopefully it doesn't seem like I am talking in circles, and again I am not trying to go against anyone, the biggest thing here should be what Disney is about.

I think it is time for this thread to get closed.

Ecurto, there really is no need to bash people for their religous beliefs. It makes you look really small. This forum should not be a place where people push their religious beliefs either "for" or "against". Once again, you want others to be accepting of you but you do not have the same respect for them. You are calling them narrowminded because they do not have the same beliefs you do. I think this is the pot calling the kettle black. Moderatores do the right thing and close this thread. :rolleyes1

You know what, if people don't want to expose their children to certain activities at a young age, that is their rights as parents. Why are they the close minded ones? Isn't it close minded to think that they are just being prejudiced, and instilling prejudice in their childred? Why is it suddenly taboo to attempt to maintain a child's innocence towards the world? She asked a polite question, and she deserves a little more civility.

I honestly, could not agree more. Enough said.

I'm on your side in this debate, but one thing..Jews don't believe you*go to hell* for eating shellfish..In fact, most Jews don't believe in Hell..And Jewish Kosher,or dietary laws have nothing to do with health

Ecurto, don't live and die by the sword. don't proclaim others bigots because they don't accept your beliefs, and then turn and fire the same rhetoric.
