Gay Days?????

You can plan a Straight White Male Protestant Day whenever you want. Get some advertising and plan some events. Anybody can plan a special day to meet at the parks because Disney is there for everyone.

Let me know when your day is because I won't want to be in that crowd, either. I'll wait for Overweight Ladies Day. We'll all graze through the park!

And Disney IS open to everyone June 3,4,5 & 6. If you have a ticket, you are granted admission...isn't THAT equal?

Apparently "Disney is for everyone" , except folks you don't like, huh?

"Overweight Ladies Day" is sexist - I could go for "Overweight Grazing Days" , though :) - It could be a special celebration of Food and Wine Fest :)

Everybody IS equal and we all deserve our own day. There's Veterans Day, Memorial Day, Martin Luther King Day............etc. All these "days" celebrate different groups and each group is proud to be singled out that day.

Everyone has groups of people that they are more comfortable hanging out with, doesn't mean its wrong.

First off, to compare "gay day" to Veterans Day, Martin Luther King day, Ect....is ridiculous and makes no sense, but don't let that stop you.
Secondly, as I said, and it still remains true.......its amazing that another group who wants to be treated "equal" does something like this.
And by the way..........if we had a "White Day' it would be racist. But thats for another board.

I vote for a "Chocolate Lover's Day"!! :p

But I guess that is everyday in Hershey, Pennsylvania!!! :p

I would just hope it wouldn't be like going to a Melissa Ethridge concert. My wife and I were treated quite rudely by the other concert goers when we were together.

And I've heard in years past that there's been problems with some of the Gay Days participants canstantly making out, swapping spit and sucking face. Gay or hetero, WDW is not the place for that kind of behavior.

I wouldn't object if any Presbyterians or Lutherans wanted to have "Lutheran Days" or "Presbyterian Days" at WDW(smile). Any group is free to have a magical gathering at WDW as long as they purchase tickets and that is all that is happening with Gay Days.

I don't really understand why people have a problem with a business selling tickets to people who belong to different groups like: ethnic groups (Yay for Irish-Americans)(smile), religion, sexual orientation, gender, jobs or parenting status.

I'm all for "Irish Lutheran Mothers who work in Healthcare Days" at WDW(smile) and any other group that wants to go and share the magic is just fine with me.

I agree with you totally.
I think the issue is with the group. If this was "Irish Lutheran Mothers who work in Healthcare Days" I doubt you'd see so many folks getting bent out of shape.
Since this is something that so many seem to have a problem with they completely blow it out of proportion.
I still say it's simple. If you have a problem with the group that will be there, don’t' go at that time. Problem solved.

Gosh folks, it's a free country. If something makes you uncomfortable, then avoid it! But just because it makes YOU uncomfortable does not make it wrong. GO! And have fun when you feel like going! WDW is a great vacation destination for EVERYONE!!!!!!:teeth:

Gay Day makes the news in Orlando the entire week before.
Good to see people who want to "just be treated equally" need their OWN DAY, isn't it?

Well, I think you may misunderstand what Gay Days really are. They are nothing more than a meeting of people with a common interest in the Orlando area, much like the RADP or DIS meets. It just happens to attract a LOT of people. You are free to organize your own meet if you felt like it.

David

Or, if you aren't gay, you could still wear red to show solidarity!:)

I love it that different interest groups organize fun events at Disney--the only thing that might keep me away during Gay Days is the crowds (not to mention the heat)--DH and I try to go during low seasons and cool seasons, but we're jonesin' for a Disney fix and might go just for one night before our Florida Seasonal Passes go into the summer backout period.

Agree with the posters who say ANYBODY can get a group together, advertise, and promote a gathering at Disney--no reason gays/lesbians shouldn't do this. It doesn't stop anybody else from attending during the same time period.

Really? Then why do my friends who are gay say its a lot more than just "a meeting of people with common interest"? I guess they don't know what they are talking about, or maybe you're trying to make a mountain seem like a molehill.

Anyone who wants to know what it (Gay Days) is can go to the Gay Days website. It has been posted on these boards numerous times, and see for themselves what it is.
It is a meeting of people with a common interest. There are also events taking place, social activities etc. Same as you would find if it were a church group, a school etc. Many of the activities are outside that park.
It seems that you are the one making a mountain out of a molehill.
If you aren't going to be there during this, then you really have no reason to be concerned that it is going on. If you had plans to be there during this time and it makes you uneasy, change your plans.
Not sure what your gay friends think it is, but that's not my problem. I know what it is, since I've attended for several years.
Oh, by the way, it's not the only time of year I go. I'm lucky enough to live close so I can go as often as I would like. I choose to go for Gay Days as it enjoyable; I get to see friends that I only see during this event who come from all over the states as well as overseas, and to enjoy the parks with a group that shares my lifestyle. I've also been able to meet some wonderful families that have been there and enjoyed being there during this time as well, so not everyone has a problem with this group being there.

We've been to WDW twice during Gay Days - it's not a big deal - you just have to avoid the park of the day to avoid the crowds. the first time we went (1995) I didn't even know it before we left - and didn't know it while we were there!!!!!

We went last year also knowing it was going on. I was just worried about crowds. The week was fine. We did go to MGM on Friday and it was pretty crowded, but manageable. We were leaving the Poly (for home) on Sat. and there were red shirts everywhere - Poly, monorail and entrance to MK. I imagine MK was quite crowded. The hotel even put a notice under our door saying they were expecting large crowds at MK and advising you to go to another park. I would avoid MK - the majority of us spend so much time on these boards to learn as much as we can and one main issue is avoiding crowds!! :D :D

I was worried but it turned out not to be as crowded as I thought.

Having read through some of your recent threads, it appears that you are very set in your opinion, making further discussion rather pointless.

I think this question has been sufficiently answered.

If you want to go over to the debate board and discuss what sorts of groups should have special days go right ahead because this is NOT the place for it!
