Gay Days?

Another Gay Day weekend story.......

My cousin belongs to a very conservative church in Tennessee. The choir had been asked to sing at WDW. It took months for the fund raising and before they left, someone decided it would be nice to have matching Tee shirts printed.

Nope, can't make it up.....a church group trained to HATE gay people arrived at WDW for Gay Day Weekend wearing.......RED tee shirts.

....and who says there isn't a god!!!!!!

psssst.....I don't care if you do not support gay people, it's your choice. You DO have to admit the story is funny!!!!!

Love it! :rotfl:

I have been twice during this time and never will again. My reasons are only a few:

1 - We saw a sea of shirts that were completely inappropriate (comments about what you could taste, what you could do with it that your own spouse couldn't, etc)

2 - I do not like physical PDA from anybody in public, but this time at Disney seems to really bring out the over-the-top PDA. When people are waiting on line and kissing so loud that it sounds like they have taffy stuck in their teeth and their hands are all over one another, it is time to go back to your hotel room and get out of the park.

If it were straight people day (which I am), Italian people day (which I am), etc, I would feel the same way. Suggestive material needs to be kept at home and over-the-top PDA needs to be kept private.

Some of you act like gays are the only group of folks who were ever or are treated unfairly. I guarantee you, every nationality, race, ethnic group, age, size, color, level of handicap, organization, etc in the world can say they are discriminated about against SOMETHING.
No, other groups have been and are discriminated against. Just because other groups face similar problems doesn't mean it's not worth any group standing up against.

The point is, sure there was a day when gays were treated unfairly, so were blacks, women, and jews (among others). Its 2011, not 1960. When are people going to let go and just all act an an equal like they want? Im not saying issues don't still need to be addressed. Im saying if you want to be treated equal, then you must act it and not draw attention to yourself. There WAS a day?!?! :rotfl: Yeah, so how many states and countries allow same sex marriage with the same full legal benefits as opposite sex marriage? How many states/countries protect against discrimination based on sexual orientation like they do for religion/race/etc?

I don't see Christian Days, Womens Days, Jewish Days getting attention in the media. Sure groups organize events and go but they don't need "days" if you get my point. They just organize and go. Separating yourself by delegated 'days' in a public facility is self segregation. And then those people wonder why they feel 'left out'. Its because they are excluding themselves from being a part of a normal, everyday function.

Really? You don't hear about any other groups getting attention? Perhaps broaden your media exposure? I'd also like to point out that even with "Don't Say Gay" bill nonsense going on WHERE I LIVE, I hear very little coverage of it in the mainstream news. The only place I've ever seen Gay Days discussed is here & other Disney sites. Never in the media.

I dont have a problem with gays at all. I just dont understand the concept of "we want to be treated equal so we will segregate ourselves away from those who we want to treat us equal", thus creating a situation of not being treated equal.

How is having a day where they get together and go to Disney with all the "regular people" segregating themselves? Was it segregating ourselves when my high school band semi-annually attending Magic Music Days events at Disney? Is it segregating when my ds and other SN kids go to the movies or some other fun place as a group? Was is segregating when my youth group went to Orlando for a Christian youth group convention and also went to Disney? :confused3

Its Disney! If you want to go just go. Doesn't matter what your background is. No need to make an ordeal out of it. Im so tired of the poor pitiful me stories when there are groups who have been treated far worse.

Getting together as a group to have fun at Disney =/= poor me. People just have this, apparently strange to you, habit of liking to participate in group activities with like-minded individuals.

Edit to add: I would have just as much of a problem if I seen Brazilian Tour Group Days or Cheerleader Days. There is a difference in organizing a group to go and completely taking it upon yourself to say this is 'my' day.

It's the SAME THING. The only difference is the word Day at the end of Gay Days. :confused3 "The Gays" aren't saying the park is just for them on those days. They are doing the same thing as other groups - organizing a large group with a similar background/situation and enjoying the World. If you wanna be annoyed by anyone by your logic, the Jersey folk should be first. After all they have entire week rather than mere days. :rotfl:

I agree with the sentiment behind posts like this because I'm gay and I have no interest in the pride side of things; I don't purposely attend parades or events.

However, you mention how there are no Christian or Jewish days etc. But there's Night of Joy which is a specifically Christian event, and I'm sure WDW also celebrate Black History month. Furthermore Disney actually sponsor these events, whereas they don't sponsor/organise Gay Days, the event is externally organised.

I also have to repectfully disagree with your comment about this being 2011 and not 1960. There are still far too many countries where homosexuality is punishable by death and as WDW attracts visitors from around the world, there could well be Gay Day attendees who have travelled from a country where they face death for holding their partner's hand.

7 years ago I just HAD to get away. Even though I have a rule.....no disney after mid-May (too hot).....I booked a single weekend and was off. Well, of course, it was Gay day weekend.

Having some pretty terrific gay friends, I especially liked seeing the Gay couples with their families - or the small groups simply having fun. Sure, there was one group of 4 who were forcing some sort of point....but they went away.

NOW....even better.....there I was standing in line at BTMRR. I started talking with a tall New Yorker behind me.....wearing a red shirt so I assumed he was down for THE weekend vs me down for the weekend.

We really hit it off and hung out together the next day. I exchanged phone numbers with the harmess gay guy and headed home. When he got home....he called me EVERY DAY!!! I couldn't figure out why this GAY GUY was calling me.......until I discovered, he had no idea about Gay Day weekend and red shirts. He wasn't Gay and we are now coming up on our 4th wedding anniversary later this month!!!!

Church group TRAINED to hate gay people? What, is this a class you take in the church basement? The Bible teaches that hatred of any person is sin. If a person believes the Bible teaches that being gay is a choice, and one that is defined as sin, it does not mean that Christian is a bigot or a hater. A bigot is defined as someone who hates another because of a group they belong to. Sorry, but I know far too many Christians that love all people but believe that a gay lifestyle is one described by God as sin.

Valid points. I will also add (for what it's worth) that there are countries where being a Christian is punishable by death.

Since this thread has proven to entice the gay-bashing trolls (we've deleted lots of posts) as well as the religious arguers, it's time to say goodnight!
