Gay Days

We went a few years ago and the crowds weren't that bad. However, we stayed at the resort next to Arabian Knights (cannot remember the name) and they forewarned us that there would be LOUD music. We didn't think it would be too bad. But all I hear was BASS thumping until 4:00 am.
There wasn't much the resort could do about it, and they did forewarn us about it, but I refuse to go back to that resort now.

We went 2 years in a row this time of year and it was not crowded at all compared to the summer months!

So glad to hear about the crowds. We are going May 30 - June 7 after July, August, and Christmas trips, and I'm hoping to see lighter crowds that with our other prime time visits. If this works, it will probably become either annual or semi-annual.

Thanks to the poster about being especially careful to avoid the day that is Gay Day and SWW on HS. We will be sure to do that as I could care less who is in the parks...just avoiding where the most people are at once. :goodvibes

Sadly it is true. You may seriously consider rescheduling your trip. See the website for more info: www.gaydays.com

It's most certainly not a joke. The dates are posted in a previous post. Just look back at page one. I"m not sure what your impression of these days are, but it sounds like they aren't what you think. I'm a very conservative Southerner and have no qualms at all about taking my dd10 after reading up on this occasion. Do your research before you reshedule. My understanding is the further into summer you go, the more the crowds go up and I think the price does as well after this week. Maybe you could still enjoy our trip and just avoid the specific parks that are designated for those 4 days.

i can't believe it. does disney promote this. please tell me they don't. i have never heard of this. it scares the heck out of me and makes me s... to even think of this at a family theme park.

may 31-june 6 no way no how will i bring my family to disney. very conservative .... if you can't stand it your better off not going down there at that time of year.

when did this stuff start and how does a company like disney endorse this?

i can't deal with this. i don't like it in my face. thanks for sharing the dates when this stuff takes place. disney should warn park visitors when this takes place.

By "this stuff" do you mean gay people visitng the parks? Oh, I'd say on the first day they opened...:rotfl:

Gay Days is not an official Disney sponsored event.

And I think the real problem is the other 51 weeks of the year - "Heterosexual Days." They bring the evidence of their sexual behavior with them into the parks - they even buy them ice cream cones and let them ride rides, pushing them from one spot to the next in strollers. :rotfl:

We went in 2009 during Gay Days and the crowds were fine. We did try to plan around what park they were in for that day just so we would not have bigger crowds and the only time I even noticed that someone was probally visiting for that function was 1 day at Epcot and they were having a great time just like the rest of us! Don't even worry about it, go and have a great time. I would worry more about Star Wars weekends that gay days!

Disney doesn't endorse it. There is nothing they can do to stop it. Ay group of people can plan a meeting whenever they want. I have been during this time and it is not a bad time to go. So first of all, just relax a bit. Not to offend anyone, I will try to use my words carefully, sorry if I do, its not intended. Those that go to attend gay days stay offsite primarily. Disney hotels don't sponsor this. They also go to a certain park every day. These parks are published. They also wear red shirts. So, for you, don't wear red shirts and don't go to the parks that they go to. Easy enough. When we went we brought my my 6 year old nephew. He noticed nothing and I did not see anything that I considered inappropriate except one thing. We were waiting in the line forthe Norwegian boat ride and a heterosexual couple in front of us started "going at it" so to say. They really needed a room!
Really, it's not bad and as a plus, crowds are lower. I'd much rather go during this time and deal with "gay days" than the Brazilian tour groups that come later. Btw, I am from south central Mississippi, very conservative as well.

Gay Days is not affiliated with Disney. There are large groups of people, myself included that go down during Gay Days to join up with friends and family from near and far and each major park has a designated day. If you do not want to go on those designated days, then by all means don't.

I'm always amused by people and their worrying about exposing their kids to inappropriate behavior. I think any couple making out in public whether gay or straight is inappropirate. I was in the local grocery store with my children the other day and a man and a woman proceeded to make out in front of us. Fortunately my kids have no tact and said "ewww" very loudly:lmao:

You see that's not what Gay Days is (why people always jump to that as soon as they see the word gay is beyond me). Gay Days is a bunch of people gay and straight having good times with their friends, spouse, moms, dads etc. Period.

For the record I'm one of "them" but you'll know that when you see me wearing my red shirt (cause that's what "we" wear so "we" can be easily identified by all of "you")

Gay people have families, too. But, you're right. You'd better not go. We wouldn't want your family to catch the gay :sad2:

Yes we do.:goodvibes And I'll be there with my partner (we'll be celebrating our 15th anniversary (we went to Disney for our honeymoon in May of 1996), our 2 children who will be 11 and 8, my 93yo mom for her first visit!! and my DB and DSIL, retired 60 somethings.

We've also been with my in-laws on past trips and hope to get them back in 2012 (dad has problems with his back but we think we have him convinced to go again).

Only 3 1/2 more months and I am soooo ready.

WoW! Just WOW! Can you warn us when "you" go so "we" aren't there when "you" are?!?

Sorry, just can't let this one go.

Sad. Really sad.

What's really too bad is that there is no vaccine for Bigotry, Intolerance and Discrimination

Who would decide what's "Bigotry, Intolerance and Discrimination"? Would the vaccine be modified as society changes? Who decides what's acceptable and unacceptable? 100 years ago, general society didn't find homosexuality as "mainstream". 300 years ago, black people were slaves. Right now, poligamy is still a taboo. Will that be true in 100 years?

The problem with free will is that people are going to do, believe, or say things you don't like. Be it being gay or not like gay people.

It's disney11fan's & jedijohn's right to avoid situation and people they are uncomfortable with. It's not like these people are advocating violence or are not going to hire someone who is gay.

Who schedules trips to avoid Brazillian tour groups or cheerleading groups at Disney? Some do it because they don't like heavy crowds. Some do it because they don't like foreigners. Or cheerleaders. Do we call these people out?

As society changes, older beliefs become less acceptable and eventually those who still have those beliefs are "intolerant". See: slavery, interracial marriage, etc.

By looking down at someone because they have older beliefs, aren't we also being intolerant? How is that any better?
