On the Gay Days website, it shows the following schedule:

Thurs 6/2 AK
Fri 6/3 MGM
Sat 6/4 MK

I know to avoid the MK because of crowds, but what about the other parks? Do they get crowded on their "Gay Day" too? We were planning on going to MGM the Friday after our cruise for the Star Wars weekend. With the increased crowds from GD and SWW, is MGM going to be flooded?

Before I get labeled a homophobe, please know that I'm concerned about CROWDS ONLY. It could be Red-Headed Stepchild Days for all I care...I just want to avoid lines! :flower:

We were there during Gay Days last year, and the only day we avoided was the Sat. at MK. We didn't notice any major crowding anywhere we went.

As a gay red-headed stepchild I'm offended by your post!!!

Just kidding....I think I read somewhere that the Universal parks are tring to get their own "gay day" started. Makes me think the profits must be pretty good.

Cathryn~

I thought it was Sun at the MK? Is it both? I think we will go to MK on Sun anyway as we like to start our trip there, but I will get everyone out of bed earlier to plan for the crowds. Thanks much!

What is the Star Wars thing? How will that affect MGM? Or maybe the fans will all be doing Star Wars things and we can ride TOT with no lines! OK I know wishful thinking! A girl can hope right!?

Lol, Cathryn! Maybe I should have added lactose-intolerant, dyslexic Mensa members! Although there are probably people who fit all those too!

Well you got me there....there's little chance that I'll ever be admitted to Mensa!!!

Cathryn~

Our vacation overlapped a couple of days last year, and to be honest it got busier AFTERWORDS!!

The designated parks, except for MK, see normal crowd levels for the season and should have no significant impact for visiting that park.

There are actually 2 gay day schedules this year, from competing websites trying to make the most $$ (how sad to "divide" the community),

Gaydays.com list the traditional schedule:

Thur. June 2, AK
Fri. June 3, MGM
Sat. June 4, MK
Sun. Jun 4 EPCOT

And GayDay.com

Thur. Jun 2 MGM
Fri. Jun 3 EPCOT
Sat Jun 4 Universal IOA
Sun Jun5 MK
Mon Jun 6 AK

Thanks for the information Chuck! I've been hearing MK is the most affected by the crowd levels, and you just confirmed it.

Looks like DH and I will be there during Gay Days and I was concerned about the crowd levels too.

:3dglasses Well...not that I am a geek or anything lol but the SWW is a gathering of fans where there are special programs and performances and lots of characters on hand from the movies for autographs and pictures, etc. There is also an earlier parade just for the SWW fans (with all the characters in it), Jedi training session for the kiddies, last year there was a sneak preview about the new movie, I THINK that WWTBAM becomes SW trivia, there are actual actors from the movies there on different weekends signing autographs, etc.

My experience last year (my first one) was that I didn't even know it was going on at first other than the stormtroopers on top of the ticket booths at the entrance "guarding" things. My small boys wanted to see Bear and then the Little Mermaid and I noticed nothing until we rounded the corner near Star Tours and BAM! it was Star Wars heaven. I had the best time. Some of the lesser known characters simple walked the crowds. They would stop for pictures and autographs, etc. The "larger" characters were usually in lines for pictures and autographs (just like the Disney characters usually are) and Mickey was not the Apprentice, but was Jedi Mickey back in his little studio where you can get pictures.

So, you have to WANT to get into the Star Wars stuff to really get trapped in it. Most of the crowds will be over in that area as well. It was pretty deserted the day we went in areas other than the SWW area. (on a Friday).

Thanks very much Chuck and lllovell!

I think we will still start at MK on Sun. It's tradition for us to go there first, if it's too crowded we'll go somewhere else after lunch. That's a shame about the 2 different sites and schedules. Seems like everyone wants to make a buck. I guess the up side is less line time if everyone is more spread out amongst the parks.

Jedi Mickey that is pretty cute! If the extra hours schedule stays the same we are heading to MGM Sun night so maybe we'll get to visit him. May have to rent those SW movies for DS to see before we go!
Thanks again!

Me either, Cathryn!

Thanks for your replies everyone...sounds like we'll be fine for MGM on Friday.

lllovell--

Do they have "face" characters there too, such as Luke and Leia (sp?) My DS is a Star Wars F-R-E-A-K and would love to meet Luke. He met Darth Vader last year (on a non-SWW), and was so thrilled. He's so happy that we're going during SWW this year.

By the way, are there Storm Troopers that you can have your picture taken with? I've always had a THING for Storm Troopers (speaking of freaks...)

yes you can becky!!!

Oh and I didn't really read your full e-mail.. yes face characters are avail. Last year we met Luke, Leia, Darth, Chewie, Jengo and Boba Fett, Wicket, the Cantina Band, the Emporer, Darth Vader, Queen Amedala, Storm Troopers, Jedi Mickey... it was much fun! And the characters are very, well, IN character!! The Storm Troopers will point their guns at you and when kids came up the Emporer with their lightsabers the Imperial Guards blocked the blades away.

Gay days are Wednesday the 1st through Monday the 6th. It happens all over the Orlando area and can have an effect on getting hotel rooms in some areas of town.

There are two organization that plan events at the theme parks during this week. In addition many parties, nightclubs and even hotels host events...even the parking lot at the Orange Bowl is used so that visitors can be transported to events.

To help plan your park visits if staying at DVC during gay days use this schedule.

There are planned gay day events at theme parks as follows:

Thursday - MGM & Animal Kingdom
Friday - Epcot & MGM
Saturday - Island of Adventure & Magic Kingdom
Sunday - Magic Kingdom & Epcot
Monday - Animal Kingdom

My sister is an WDW employee and says that crowds during gay days and Christian Music weekend are very heavy.

My partner and I are members of DVC and enjoy bringing our parents, siblings and children. We may be gay but avoid gay days and choose other times to visit.
