Hello All...

I'm fairly new, but maybe a few of you will recognize my name from my many posts and care to read my review. :earsboy:

So, we just returned from 5 nights at the Caribbean Beach Resort....we had a delightful time. To begin we were really happy with the resort. The grounds we very clean (smokers it's really NOT ok to toss butts wherever you please) and well kept. Our room was great, we requested a king when we got to the front desk, which, to the relief of us both was not met with any funny looks.

The pools were also just wonderful, though it would be great if each were accompanied by its own hot tub. Speaking of the hot tub, there is only one for the whole resort…because of this I think it would be swell if the lifeguards would remind/encourage children and teenagers to share the tub with adults. We tried to get in on two separate occasions and it was just too full with rowdy kids. Maybe there could be after dark age limit? The one time we did get in we had a GREAT time talking with the other guests!

One last thing about the resort….the food- the pizza was probably the worst we have ever tasted, however the burgers were pretty good; though in both cases the service was abominable!!! :sad2:

The Parks....we had a GREAT time!!! We were there from the 28th to the 2nd and I'd have to say the crowds were just right. Being from the North East we were taken by the fact that most every ride was introduced in both English and Spanish; though it began to make sense the more time we spent walking around and noticed how many non-English speaking visitors there were.

Mentioning the rides reminds me of something a found TREMEMDOUSLY annoying…cell phone use and drawn out conversations while on rides. Pirates of the Caribbean and Haunted Mansion are my two favorites and I would have really appreciated riding them without all that chatter.

One last thing, for any other gay couples who are thinking of visiting Disney World…DON'T WORRY that you'll feel like the only gay people there. By our estimation a good many of the cast members are gay. Many came over to either strike up a conversation or offer a simple wink and a nod :wave2: once they realised we were a couple. A funny story about that…on the day that my girlfriend wore her DontAmend.org t-shirt more than three characters whispered how much they liked her shirt while posing for pictures with us.

Cathryn it sounds like you had a great time! Thanks for sharing about your trip. It's nice to know that Disney really is a family place, no matter the particular composition of your family. :flower:

Thanks kpk89. I think our experience is a real tribute to what kind of place Disney is!

Cathryn~

Thanks for your report and I am glad you and your partner had a great time.

We take extended family with us on our trips, which includes my two BILs. They have been together for six years now.
Never have we had any awkward glances or stares or been treated any different. We are a family and I think the CMs at WDW respect that.
Funny thing happened at the 50's Primetime Cafe on our last trip. There were ten of us total. My husband and his brother were sitting beside each other while I was sitting by my BIL's partner.
Our server could not get who was with who, who was related to who, etc. There were too many guys at the table and only two adult women, myself and mom. By the time our meal was over, she finally got it and it was just funny. "Oh, nooooooowwww I get it!"

We have also had funny things happen to us at the Adventurer's Club, such as my BIL's partner being mistaken for my husband. Great times!

WDW is a great place because it is such a welcoming environment, no matter your size, color or sexual orientation. Just one reason to keep going back.

Glad you had a good time!

I agree about the pools. I know it's hard, being at Disney to tell kids "time's up" but I have to agree that after a certain hour it would be nice to have "adults only" in the jacuzzi or pool. My wife and I also did not get to enjoy the jacuzzi at CBR on our honeymoon 2 years ago because of the kids. dont get me wrong, I love kids, but, those kids didnt pay the money to be there like I did so maybe we could at least share? It's also nearly impossible to do anything about it, because some parents have no control over their kids and if you were to ask to be able to sit in there and it cause a kid to have to get out, you'd have a crazy parent on your hands most likely.

One thing that I am sensitive to is cursing out loud while in crowds at WDW, but then again, that's another story for another day.

I hate that the characters talked to you or your girlfriend. Not that your gay but just that they talked. That's not supposed to happen for any reason, but hey, if it happened to me, I may think it's cool! AHHH, maybe I'm just jealous. Then again, I do a killer gay male impression (in talking) just to catch my wife off guard. I'm a stinker you know? gotta embarass her at inopportune times!

I'm glad you were treated well at Disney. One thing that should never be tolerated is criticism of someone for their lifestyle. Nobody has the right to discriminate against anyone for how they live their lives. I just say this...........my parents never appreciated or agreed with my lifestyle as a teenager and college student, but they still love me, so who am I to judge? Disney is Disney to everyone, so have fun!

Anyways, I agree with you about the loud talking on rides as well. It's like, if you want to talk, do so quietly. Some people are just so loud when the talk, like my dad. I wonder if he's just wanting to be heard, or if he's just half def. My wife doens't care, she just wants to strangle him either way most of the time. :confused3

Always happy to read positive trip reports. And yes, I hate when hot-tubs are overun by teens and kids, not fun. Glad your trip was "Magical"! ;)

dontamend.org?

Is there more to that address than the www....is isn't taking me anywhere and it sounds like a website I'd like to visit.

you mention<<By our estimation a good many of the cast members are gay>> I had a student a number of years ago that was a cast member who told me that he was the lone straight man in the parade! :goodvibes

Glad you had a good time visiting the mouse!

Welcome to the boards, Cathryn, glad you had a great trip! I'll have to go read your reports!

Thanks for the great trip report and happy that you had a great trip!

I totally agree with you about the cell phone usage. It's one thing to use your cell phone waiting in line, or walking through the parks, but it irks me too when people have lengthy conversations when on the actual ride! When we were last there, unfortunately the friend I was traveling with was guilty of this practice. it was the first time she had traveled without her husband, so he would call every 30-45 minutes! I suggested she turn the phone off or put it on vibrate AT LEAST during the rides. She didn't go that far, but when he did call during a ride, she did finally say she'd call him back after the ride was over. She ended up realizing that she was annoying everyone on the ride, not just necessarily me. And she wasn't able to enjoy the rides herself either!!

Well, they could have been face characters! And ScottieDog..glad you had a great time. That's nice to hear. And I would agree about those hot tubs. Man, it's hard to use them with all the screaming teens in them. Even at BW it was an issue.

civileng69....I think I can make you feel better about the "talking" characters. The ones that wispered weren't in masks the Mad hatter and Peter Pan and LOL a coral reef.

As for the pool...we liked the resort so much it feels wrong to complain about a hot tub! Still (here I go) we both love striking up conversations with fellow vacationers and by the pool should have been the perfect place.

Chim Chiminy....we went to the Primetime as well! What a fun place to eat, a real must go to!

I am happy that you had a great trip!! I agree with the cell phones. I have mine with me but it is for emergency only. I turn it OFF!!!! I am on vacation and do not want to be bothered!! :rotfl:

Well that makes sense about the characters, but you know, the more I think about it, the more I think it would be kinda cool to hear a character talk (masked character) but then you know you will never look at them the same..................hearing a girls voice come from Mickey you know?

I totally agree about the pool. I know it's hard to complain because you're right, the place is awesome. It's also hard to complain because you know Disney is also so much fun for kids, but then I think, "I'm not rich and I paid ALOT of money to come here and I feel like I can't even use the ammenities because some parents are letting their kids run around like they're on speed or something."

my fault DontAmend is a "com", however if you'd like to visit a good "org." vist www.hrc

It's funny about your student...out tennent told us the same thing (she did one of those college internships some years ago) though we *thought* she was exagerating when she said it. "shaaa", she wasn't!

Cathryn,
Glad you had a great time!! Me and my S/O have been going for years, and we have never had anyone look at us strangely. It's that great atmosphere that makes us keep wanting to go back!

Glad to hear that you had a good time. My boyfriend and I are going to WDW in September and I do not expect any problems traveling as a gay couple. My boyfriend is French and always curious about how gays and lesbians are treated in different states. I'm sure that your trip report will put his mind at ease.

Well, I didn't hear him (or, at least I hope it was a him! :earseek: ) talk but when I was 20 (WAY back in 1984), I heard King Louie growl at me, making 'smooching' sounds, then burst into complete hysterics when a dad told us to "behave ourselves - there are children present". :cool1: Never looked at him the same way again. To this day, my heart skips a beat when I see him walk by!

Glad to hear you had a good time ScottieDog! :sunny:

Cathryn, what building did you stay at? I know what you mean about the hot tubs!

DD16 and I will be there 26 Mar til 1 Apr. Staying at CBR. We usually go end of May thru the first week of June. You should post a trip report on the trip report board, too.

Glad you guys had a good trip.

So glad you had a fabulous time! I have to agree, it would be nice if they could have a adults only hot tub at each resort. It is very difficult to relax and unwind with the rowdiness than can be found there.
