Gay characters (and couples) in Disney shows and movies

It's not about support, it's a general conversation subject and is, in my opinion, best left in the general conversation area. If you note, where the Gay and Lesbian board is, it's really under planning, now, of course a lot of subjects in the sub board have nothing to do with planning, but really, this conversation is much more general in nature and belongs outside the planning areas.

Just watched Beauty and the Beast again yesterday, and it reminded me of something I thought was worth mentioning in this thread.

It may well be decades before we get even a minor Disney character who is acknowledged as gay. But we have *gay* Disney Legend Howard Ashman to thank for the golden era of the 90's that brought us The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin, with their fantastic, witty, lyrical genius.

And I've read in more than one interview that the song "Kill the Beast" was basically subtext for his fight against AIDS and the way he was treated by so many who were ignorant and afraid.

"We don't like what we don't understand, in fact it scares us..."

Speaking of gay lifestyle, do you want to know what mine consisted of today:

5:00 AM - To the gym for a run
6:00 AM - Shower at home
6:30 AM - Partner gets up takes a shower
7:00 AM - Feed dog
7:20 AM - Walk dog
7:40 AM - Leave for work
8:00 AM - Get to work and start reading e-mails
12:00 PM - Microwave some left over Indian food from Saturday night
1:20 PM - Read DIS and just shake my head

The rest of the day is to come, but it really is such a gay lifestyle isn't it. Cannot wait for more digressions from the straight lifestyle later.

Wake up people, people are gay, no one chooses it, it's part of who you are. You can try to hide it, you can try to ignore it, but it doesn't magically go away. There is no lifestyle, it's just life!

To those who choose to raise your kids in a shelter, I feel sorry for them, not because everything in life needs to be explained to them when they are 2, but the more you shelter them from the life around them, the more they are going to struggle with the life they are going to live.

If you want to fill your conversion quota, which we all know is The Gay Agenda, you're gonna have to glam it up a bit. ;)

Well, I think a Disney movie with two princes would be a horrible mistake. Disney's biggest audience is little girls, and they wouldn't want to watch that. No pretty dresses! Well, unless the princes happen to also be crossdressers or drag queens...

OMG, Disney, if you are reading, please please please make a move about drag queen princes. :cloud9:

So now we have Disney movies that aren't about fun and fantasy, but are considered politically correct to look forward to? Makes me glad my kids are out of the princess stage now.

If you mean a a gay leading character in feature animation you might be waiting a while. Disney, however, has a lot of properties including multiple television channels and movie studios. I don't think it will be a long time before an ABC show, Touchstone movie, or Hollywood Pictures movie features a gay leading character. Heck, I don't follow those divisions very closely so perhaps they already have.

:rotfl:

I don't care how politically incorrect I am, I would NOT want to have to explain to my young children why the prince in a Disney movie is putting on a ballgown!

You could just skip that movie for your kids then. Much in the same way my kids have never seen Mars Needs Moms, or G-Force, or Hannah Montana. ;)

True, my religion teaches me not to be gay.

How can a religion teach someone not to be gay? Attraction isn't taught. It can teach someone not to engage in homosexual sex, but how can it teach someone not to experience same sex attraction?

Oh boy.....Why is it that I STILL do not know where to find the popcorn smiley?:confused3

Ashman was a genius. I highly recommend Howard Sings Ashman. I always cry when listening to Sheridan Square.

I am still waiting for the day that some straight person explains the process of their choice to be straight.

If you didn't choose, what makes you think anyone else did?

You can choose not to act on your attractions if that's what you mean by your religion telling you not to be gay- but the orientation isn't going anywhere. You can deny it, you can repress it- but it will always be there.

This statement makes me sad.

You know what's really sad?

When my DSIL died from Cancer on Good Friday, the last conversation she had with her eldest daughter was about her changing from being gay to being straight. It was sad that she was so terrified of never seeing her daughter again, that she wasted their last moment with her trying to make her daughter change who she was, because what she was was going to keep the daughter out of heaven.

A mother so terrified by her religion that told her that her daughter was evil, that she could never be able to feel the comforts that her religion could have brought to her at death.

That's sad.

This is heart breaking. :sad1:

That is sad. :(

You know, the Bible talks about many things--people single this one out. What about fat people? Do people lay on their deathbed and worry and fret about their fat daughter not going to Heaven? Why single this out? I dunno, it confuses me and always will.
