Last time we flew from Gatwick we were going with BA and stayed at the Meridian connected to the terminal which was really nice. Next year we are flying with Virgin who go from the other terminal............but I can't seem to find a good deal on a room at the Hilton!

So, does anyone know how easy it is to get from the Meridian to the other terminal ........or where I can get a really good deal on the Hilton!!!!!

Many thanks!!
Debsx
PS: Does anyone know whether there is a new Disney planning DVD out yet?

We booked through ABC Holiday Extras, I think a family room with 15 days parking is costing about £140 in December.

Follow the link below:

You should also check our the Hilton website - they have seasonal specials at Gatwick including parking etc.

So glad I read this post. As flying with BA and didn't realise they were are at the other terminal!!!

What is Meridian like?

It is very easy to get from the North to South Terminals Deb - a quick monorail ride and you are there.

I booked the Hilton through ABC Holiday Extras like Tim suggests - but it has varied hugely on what price I've been able to obtain - I have found weekends to be much cheaper than weeknights (I'm assuming they have less business travellers at the weekend which might be why).

We loved Le Meridian but not their expensive food! The room was very large with two good sized single beds and a double. The sheets were really crisp and white and the chairs, small settee, table, bathroom etc were all very nice as was the shampoo/shower gel. We overlooked the restaurant which was strange to peek out on but the curtains were really thick and kept the light out. We travelled with Virgin and you simply walk back into the terminal turn right and go down onto the free shuttle train that takes you right back to South Terminal. No way you can get lost and if you miss one it only takes about 5/7 minutes for the next one to swoosh in!
Goofyish, thats a really good price! Ive booked a room at Hilton (family) no parking for one night December this year and its cost me £121!!

It takes about two minutes to get from north to south terminals - easy ride on monorail, so problems with cases etc.

Le Meridien is a really good hotel, although it is shortly going to become a Sofitel - not sure what difference that will make, but it's not going to alter the good quality rooms and reception etc. If you book with Holiday Extras, you get half price breakfast which makes it about £8, so really good value. We paid about £130 for a family room this November ona Friday night, without parking, but parking isn't that much extra.

I haven't stayed at the Hilton, but on previous posts about them both, Le Meridien seems to come out on top - and if it's only the terminal thing persuading you, honestly, it is so easy getting from one to the other.

This sounds good. I liked the Hilton but never been that impressed. I have checked out the the terminals and they seem to have the same "before Security" restaurants. I phoned ABC this evening and they do not have aprice for Le Meridian for October 2006 and advised me to phone in late January. I think this is what we will do and book both our families in at this hotel.

Many thanks for all the help.

the hilton was coming out really expensive for us, but i booked through virgin with the frequent flyer discount and it knocked £17 off!

We've stayed at the Hilton many time, this August we tried Le Meridien and I much preferred it.

Getting the monorail over to South Terminal was fun - it really did seem like an extra day on the holiday ;)

The pool at Le Meridien is not much bigger than the one which used to be in the Hilton (has that reopened yet).

The big plus for me with Le Meridien though were the noise levels - or should I say lack of them! I've always found the Hilton, whilst comfortable, a very noisy hotel. Le Meridien rooms were much roomier, much quieter too

Last time we went to WDW, a 5 years ago, we stayed at the Hilton. The room was really disappointing, it was small and box like and rather cramped for myself, DW and DS.

Later this month we are going again and are staying at Le Meridien.

Previously DS really enjoyed the train that runs between the north and south terminal. We spent a good hour going back and forth. I don't think he'll be so captivated by it this time.

Not long now for us. I've just filled in our I-94/W visa waiver program forms and customs declarations. Tomorrow I'm off on a business trip to the US and when I get back we'll be doing the single digit dance.

:) Chris.

Hi debs i have just tried to book the Hilton for April 2006 with parking but they are not taking bookings yet as its too early. I asked when i should phone but she couldn,t say ( alot of help). I will just kep trying.

Thanks for all your replies!

We have stayed at the Hilton a couple of times, for convenience only, and have always found the rooms small, noisy and the food expensive! We also all got an ear infection from the pool there one year.....did not swim there again! ha! ha!

When we went last year we thought the Meredian was much nicer and we had a lovely carvery meal at the hotel which I thought was reasonably priced and yummy!!

My only hesitation was whether it would be a hassle getting back to the South Terminal early in the morning with excited 5 yr old and cases.......but it sounds as though it should be a doddle and we can check in the night before! I've found the Meridian in a family room for £125 so that dosen't sound so bad!

Hi debs
The £125 a room was that with parking as well? as we are looking into parking. When we stayed at the Hilton last time we had 15 days parking in with the room for 165.00.I rang again as i know last time i booked the Hilton it was almost a year before we went and i couldn't understand why they couldn't take my booking today. They haven't yet got the prices for the parking package and told me to ring in December. I may look into the Meridien too.

thanks marv :wave2:

I've already booked our room for April 2006 (with parking) - the family rooms were already fully booked for our night so I wouldn't wait too long - try Holiday Extras :)

Hi tracy
just being nosy but have you booked at the Hilton and what were the prices like.
I contacted Holiday extras and they wanted 226 for the night stay and 15 days parking at the Hilton this was in a fam room.
I booked up with Europa then cancelled as found some really bad revues on this hotel.
I think its going to have to be the Hilton just to keep my sanity on the day of departure.

We've booked 2 x triple rooms (when we ideally wanted 1 family & one double) - cost was £169.50 per room inc 15 days parking. The family (4) room price was the same as the triple room price when they had been available but I think the prices have gone up £10 per room since we booked last month.

Hello,

If i was you i would stay at the Le Meridien again at North Terminal and just take the mono rail round to South terminal (it only takes a minute).

Le Meridien is getting renamed i think to Sofitel or Park Inn very soon so watch out when you book. wouldnt stay at the Hilton its very costly for what it is! I'm a travel agent and well travelled so trust me !

l have booked through these and it occured to me the other day that although you get 15 DAYS parking you actually pick your car up from Gatwick on the 16th morning. How has everyone else found this, where you charged an extra day.
l fly on the 27th Nov and land on the 12th Dec which is 16 days. Please advise!!!!!

Yes - you just get charged for the extra day when you get there, last time it cost us £8 per day so not too bad.

We stayed at the Hilton for the first time last month. We only paid £107.50 through FHR quoting Virgin and after staying there we could see why. It was dirty and badly in need of refurbishment. Last time we stayed at Le Meridian, paid £00 through P&O Cruises and it was MUCH nicer and as has already been stated, only a 2 min ride from South Terminal on the shuttle.

Do yourself a favour and stay at Le Meridian!
