Gator grabs 2 year old at Grand Floridian?

That's great and all...but here's the take away: WDW is a swamp...Florida is a swamp...you have to watch your children at all times.

They have had an excellent track record over the years...really Superb. But you don't leave things to chance and play the odds with nature...it will always win.

Kinda harsh, don't you think? Also no idea why you quoted me. Since there are very few details, you can't associate any blame at this point and assume the child wasn't being watched. Gators are very fast, there may have been no warning anything was amiss. From the sounds of it, they were taking part in a resort activity at the happiest place on earth. You make it soun like they were splashing around in the water tempting fate. We just don't know what happened.

Yes, I understand it's FL, I lived in Miami so understand how dangerous they are and adept at getting around (where you don't want them). I have seen them quite often at several locations in WDW, including MK last year. I guess I just assumed, since it is FL, that if Disney was going to let families that close to the water they had a system in place, that may not catch all of them, but at least the larger ones. I have to think they were confident as well or there's no way they would be allowing access to the beach area let alone showing movies that close to the water at night. So, so sad and scary :worried: Twice in one week I had to use a sad emoji :sad1:
They actually do catch them if they are spotted. Especially larger ones. They will catch them and get rid of them but apparently this one they didn't catch in time.

A couple of things.

Speculation is the family might have been watching on of the movies on the beach at the GF. The report was called I around 9:30 which is during that movie.

Three gator catching boats are in the water searching for a gator. If they come in contact with a gator they are going to capture it.

I'm not assigning blame...I'm highlighting the right way to act that should never been deviated from...

That does not mean this was preventable...but it is a reminder not to take your environment for granted down there.

This is so incredibly heartbreaking. When I worked at Epcot in 2000, gator removal was assigned to the pest management team. They are everywhere around there and they would remove them if they got into the canals near the Epcot resorts. I know each resort area had its own team.

I just can't even imagine what the family is going through. This is just horrific.

I read on on the news page that the father was walking the baby during the movie and the gator came up from behind and grabbed the baby.

All my photos and video look like a white dot far away so i'm not going to bother posting them. Very sad.
Update!

Orange County Sherrifs Office will hold a 12:45 AM press conference on this.

Do you know what channel(s) are covering it?

dont know about live TV, but @Journo_Christal will be live streaming on Periscope. THat is her twitter name, follow her there.

Such a horrific situation. Prayers and thoughts with that family because that's just awful.

I can't believe they left people on the beaches throughout this. Along with that, I'd expect some sort of new protocol to come into place, whether not letting people on beaches at all or something else. But its neither hear nor there at this point

Agree...outdoor activities near waterways just ended. And that seems pretty prudent right about now.

Seriously. I was just thinking about all the parasailing stuff they do and everything and I can see it all ending. Any response seems like a good response at this juncture
