Gate closure today

I am wondering if this trend continues if those who are coming from further away and not as often will start looking elsewhere for vacation destinations and it will start to make any difference in Disney's bottom line. I LOVE Disneyland...but after the last 2 visits (Feb 27-March 4 and then May 11-13) I am seriously wondering why I'd spend $6k to stand in 2+hour lines. When I have to wait for 20 minutes to use the bathroom with a 3 year old who has a tiny bladder...it makes me rethink things LOL! We'll still go, but probably not as often :(

Seriously, even a water park would help at this point. I imagine Star Wars land will make things even worse. :(
....not unless they charge an unreasonable separate entrance standby admission to Star wars land....then it won't be so bad...folks have a reservation for a place in line....oh wait....isn't that happening June 1st, to separate the folks who know about the new fastpass and those folks showing up hoping to find paper fastpass....it is a natural thinning of the herd......

We unfortunately have decided to take a hiatus for at least at couple of years. I LOVE Disneyland and am completely Disney obsessed! It will forever be my absolute happy place but we just can't justify the COST, the crowds, wait times...etc. For a family of 4 or more....its just outrageous! We are realizing how many other many great vacations we could go on for that amount or less. It just has such a different feel now too which makes me a little sad.
For now, we'll be checking out other theme parks, taking road trips, camping in our camper..etc and will see what the next couple of years bring. I never in a millions years would think I would say that I need a break from Disneyland. Guess we'll be one less family crowding up the park for a while! Ha!!

This thread has gotten quite off topic. Let's get it back on to the original topic of the gate closure that happened on May 20th. Thanks!

I'm curious how the crowd levels have been this week since the gate closure on Sunday. Still pretty bad?

The Disneyland AP twitter account tweeted out the day before, day of, and day after the gate closure that attendance was higher than normal and to expect longer wait times. They also heavily encouraged the use of the app to monitor waittimes and mentioned in seperate tweets that those attending the parks should consider ride-sharing with the convenient drop-off on Harbor Blvd. The second tweet may have worked as I never received notice of the parking structures being closed as I have multiple times this spring.

We have been coming down from Canada about once a year for the past 14 years. We have been there on the Canadian May long weekend (this past weekend) about 5 of those trips and have never had crowds like we saw last weekend! Between the Saturday and Sunday crowds and the heat it was definitely challenging! Between the cost with the Canadian dollar sucking and the increased crowds and grad nights on 3 of the days we will not be back for a few years. We still loved it and really appreciated Tuesday when the crowds were much better. Next trip we will avoid grad nights for sure!

We had similar waits on Friday evening. It was brutal. Getting through security was over 30 minutes and that was the longest we have ever waited. The worst was when we went to leave and the line for the Toy Story shuttle was all the way to Harbor!!!!!! The wait was over 30 minutes just to get on the shuttle (so we were told) and we we decided to walk back instead. It seemed worse than Christmas!

Some of our party's APs had their last Friday before summer open and we decided to give it a try. In 6 hours we got on 3 rides (most fast passes were out). We still had a good time but wow, those crowds!!!

By the way, the fireworks started but were stopped within the first 3 or so minutes. It seemed too windy and I was surprises they were going off at all. The star fireworks looked like melted stars and it stopped right at the Tiki Room. There was no warning announcement that they could be cancelled. I was surprised.
Oh my word! Days like this you may care to mozy on over to Knott's Berry Farm. I finally did last month and can't wait to go back. No 1 hour lines, well normally anyway lol I loves Timber Mountain, Calico Mine Ride and they have furry critters too in their barn area, you know like DLR use to have! And ....the AP is actually easily afforded too. WOW! If you like water parks they have that too. Requires a separate fee, unless you have a higher AP. Which is also a great price. They have 7 brand new water slides too.
