Okay, I tried the search function and it didn't work. What is the deal with Gate 13 as written about in my "unofficial" Disneyland book? Why THAT gate? Thanks.

Ok, I give. Explain the gate 13 thing. Is that supposed to be the faster moving/shorter line to get into the park since most people would avoid the unlucky number? Cool to know if it is true.

As my 7 year old would say, "Mom, I don't believe in bad luck" :)

I don't know but the guidebook says to get there X minutes before opening and get in line in Gate 13. NO explanation that I recall.

???

hmmmm...something to try on the next trip.

I never heard of a Gate 13, so I'm curious.

I do know, during the seasons of Holiday Mansion and throughout the year at ToT, the standby wait time will be listed at 13 minutes if their is little/no wait to get in/on.

I think there is supposed to be a planter right in front of it, so people don't know its there? The same with gate 20.

Yeah, the Unofficial guide says something about there being a tree in the way in front of gate 14? and 19? Maybe? or maybe it's 12 and 19. Anyway, supposedly they look like they're not manned, but the guide says that just before opening they WILL be manned, and that people will be waved over from gates 13 and 20 to fill up those lines which are short because of a tree in the way.

That's the theory, but it didn't look like that to me when we were there. The gates that were going to be open had a sign that said "Magic Morning" and each one had a line leading up to it. The lines were all the same length. But that was only one trip and I was pretty preoccupied, so if anybody has tested the Unofficial Guide theory and found it to work, I'd love to hear about it!

I heard about this before my last trip to Disneyland and decided to try it for myself. One of the reasons this gate has a smaller line is that it is near the middle, the gates to the left and right are near security checkpoints, so really any of the gates in the middle have shorter lines. A little extra walking will get you in the park a little faster :goodvibes

Also look for lines that are blocked by planters, I've noticed many people don't see these lines or think they aren't a line because they looked blocked.

Hi Sabrina I really like this book. I think you will find it helpful! Glad I brought it up today so you were tipped off to its existence!!

Yes DH thought I was crazy when I told him to head to that gate, but guess what I was right! The lines were super long and the line there was only about a 1/3 of what the others were! :goodvibes

I'm kind of skeptical about Line 13 as well.... we'll see when we get there.

the book, however, is excellent. I have read it at least 3 times. It will be coming with us.

I ordered it and 2 others about disney! They will be here on Tuesday! Gate 13...here we come! :) Thanks for tipping me off about it!! I LOVE THIS BOARD! I've learned so much!

Just ordered it! Thanks! The only bookstore we have is Hastings and they didn't have it in stock...and it was $5 more than amazon. Sheesh!

I work part time at hastings..Yep..we can't beat Amazon. However, I find half.com usually beats Amazon. I love the Unofficial Guides..they are very funny!

I agree. I like this one much better than Birnbaums. Less pictures, but FULL of useful info.

I told my dh about the gate 13 theory and he thought I was full of it. Going to have to give it a shot now next time we go.

On our last trip we noticed that one of the lines in the middle branched into two because there was something in the way of that line forming properly(I can't remember what). It was definitely quicker upto the point it branched into two. Never bothered looking at the gate number.....

Been there done that wouldn't worry about it - just aim to be there early.

Also - some days they only open certain gates...three weeks ago they only used even numbers (13's not much help then). If you are early enough that there aren't already some queues formed, check with the staff which will be opened.
