Hi I have a question. I will be getting the surgery next month and I am kinda worried about the dining plan. We are going to the world again in feb. And I was wondering if anyone here has had it or knows anyone who has. Does Disney help you youmout with this. Do you have to pay full price for the plan?

I am sure if you want to be on the Dining plan that you have to pay full price. I have not had gastric bypass, but I did have Lap Band. We do the dining plan because DH and DS like it and I just paid full price.

I have heard if you are not on the dining plan you can show them something showing you have had weight loss surgery and they will allow you to order off the kids meals or pay childs price at buffets at some of the WDW restaraunts.

Good luck on your surgery and with your weight loss.

Good luck with your surgery! I had mine on Jan 20th and am alot healthier and 80 lbs lighter..I have done the dinng plan for the last 4 trips to wdw, but my experiences in the last 5 months tells me we won't do it again(we are going 12/27-1/1). I still eat only small amounts at each meal and DH and I often share an entree with salad/appetizer to fill in for him, so we are planning on just paying as we go. I do not beleive disney lets you pay children's rate for DDP, but maybe someone knows otherwise. I would not want to eat off the kid's menu for meals. I have looked at menus at wdw and I do not see a problem..My physician gave me a note that explains the medical reason for eating an appetizer portion or spltting a main entree. DH and I go out at least once a week and I can always find something that is appropriate. I just came back from vacation at HHI(disney's dvc) and ate at great seafood and other restaurants. I'm sure the next trip will be a little diferent, but my lifestyle has changed dramatically (as will yours) and I have adjusted to it all.

MinnieNurse is correct, you pay the full amount for the dining plan regardless of how much you may or may not eat. The rules are 10 and up, and Disney doesn't bend on that.

She's also correct that there have been isolated instances where they charge less at a buffet for you if you're paying OOP. At other TS's you can just pay for what you eat (paying OOP)

Good luck with your surgery and weight loss!

Hi!

Just wanted to say good luck. I'm sure that you have concerns with how to eat at WDW after the surgery...I have a close friend and a niece who have had the surgery and I will tell you it took them some time to get used to the new way to eat - but they did end up getting the hang of it rather quickly. That said, even though they eat small amounts, they do (now, months after surgery for one and years for the other) eat likely about the same amount as many adults who have not had surgery....Just adults who are small and eat small amounts (my mother - for example - she'll eat one full meal every two or three days and very little the rest of the time). Anyway- just to say that it is full price and rightly so - since they don't charge on the DP based on food quantity or many people would be paying way less. You might be better off not getting the DP - if you don't like to do buffet meals. You might end up better off $ wise as you will only pay for what you actually order (and that might be only a small amount like a salad or an appetizer or a meal to share).

Thank you. Congrats on your weight loss. I was hoping that maybe they cut back on in, but we still see a savings in the plan with a family of 4. I always had left overs on the plan before and I will now lol. Thanks again.

Congrats on the decision. I am a five year post RNY post -op. Last year I did Disneyland and they made a few consessions ie kids portions but its is not across the board.
This year were are there for "free dining". The buffets I can tailor...the rest I plan to take baggies/containers and my family will have snacks for later. I know at five years out I can eat a lot more than you will be able to as a new post-op but still eat less than an average kid. I just won't be able to partake in the sweet desserts. *Sigh*

Good luck with your surgery! I had gastric bypass 11 yrs ago and am SOO happy I did it! (Lost about 120lbs and have pretty much remained at that even after having 2 babies!) You can definately damage your new pouch by overstuffing it - not to mention making yourself MISERABLE so just be very careful at buffets. Personally, I LOVE buffets but I have to admit that I'm probably able (at this point) to eat quite a bit more than someone who has JUST had the surgery. Congrats on making the decision and good luck to you!

My doctor gave me a medical card asking that restaurants allow me to order child portions - do you happen to know WHICH buffets have been known to allow gastric bypass patients to pay lower prices? I wouldn't expect or ask for a kids price but even a slight discount since we can't eat as much (for medical reasons) would be nice. So now you have me curious. (We're not going to be on the dining plan...)

THANKS!

Sorry, I just remember reading it on a thread a long time ago that was discussing this same topic. I have never done it because we have always done the dining plan because even though I eat a very small amount it is worth it for DH & DS. They dont mind cleaning up after me and as another poster stated the childs menu does not appeal to me. Lap Band is a little different. I can pretty much eat anything I just can only eat a few bites of it.

:;) Thank you. That is true we aren't going for the plan. We are going for the fun. It is nice to know there are disers out there who have gone through this. I am looking forward to starting the new chapter in my life. Just can't do it with Mickey ears in hand. MAN I'M GONNA MISS THAT ICE CREAM BAR.

I had the surgery and have the card and I have used it at Boma, Cape May Cafe, Ohana, Chef Mickey's, & Crystal Palace. When I'm on the DDP, I pay adult though but if we pay OOP, I show them my card and I have no problem getting the children's price. Good luck with your surgery! :)

Well you can have a BITE of one off of someone else's bar! My DD's are 2 and 3 so I figure I can share one iwth the 2 of them and will get my fill that way. What I would LOVE ot try is the Tonga Toast at Kona but I KNOW that would make me ill for the entire day!

congrats on your decision to change your life. i am 7 years post op and 180 pounds thinner. definatly make sure that you ask your surgeon for the card that says you have had the sugery. we went to disney not long after i had mine and some would give the discounts and some wouldn't, can't remember which ones right now.

good luck!

No matter if your on the Dinning plan or not you will have to pay for whatever you order. I can't see them giving you have price. Sry that makes no sense to me.

My DH is 3 months post-op. We contacted Disney and were sad at what we were told. Disney dining does not offer an adult a child price for dining plan if you are "surgerically altered" AKA lapband, RNY, GS, etc....
If you do the dining plan for the family you will be charged the adult price. If however you want to have your family on the plan and you just purchase meals as needed, they told us that you can add yourself to your reservation at the hotel when you check in. The only way it can be done they said.
Not appealing? Wasn't to us either.
What you can do is when you make your reservations, wait until you have all of them booked, then have the cast member go back and add the notes that your doctor provides you specific to your needs. If you need more details on what to ask and examples of our meal plans for my DH, PM and I will provide to you.:flower3:
