Was curious as to anyone who may have had gastric bypass surgery and then gone to WDW? My question would be to how did the restuarants do when you requested a special menu or buying only and appetizer, or buying from child's menu?....any thoughts or suggestions....I am hear to listen.

All of the sit-down restaurants at WDW will accomodate special dietary needs, especially if you can give them 24 hour advanced notice. In my experience, even the fixed-price meals, such a buffet service places in Epcot like Akershus in Norway, will make exceptions for people with special needs if you ask nicely. I take my son's food to restaurants at WDW all the time, and have never had a problem. Some character meals will charge an infant charge or entertainment charge, but never full price for him since he is not eating the food there.

I am not sure how you will fare trying to order from a children's menu, they may not accept that, but my guess is that they will be very accomodating to your requests. Whether or not you have made a reservation with a special dietary request, be sure that you inform both the host and the waitperson that you have a special dietary need.

I know you won't have a problem with counter service restaurants. My DD and I are not big eaters, so we often share a meal (sometimes even a kids meal).
We don't eat much at sit down restaurants (DD is not very patient with all the waiting), but we have ordered just a salad. I have also seen posts from people who shared an entree.
You might want to call the executive chef's office to discuss your special needs. The number that someone posted last August is (407) 824-5967. The person who posted it had allergy problems, but I know people have also posted about talking with the chef about other diet concerns.

Does your doctor give you a card stating that you've had the surgery and can only eat so much food, and requesting that you be allowed to order from the children's menu or a smaller portion? My doctor gives them out and many places honor them. If you don't have one, try www.obesityhelp.com and they should have a link there, if I remember right.

I leave in less than 3 weeks, so I'll be able to give you a definative answer on my return. I had my WLS 1 year ago, but I still eat very small amounts--usually sharing with someone else in my party.

Best to you!!!

I would be very interested in asking you questions about your surgery, if you wouldn't mind, since I am considering it myself. If you feel like talking about it, please email me: bobbi84 @aol.com
Thanks.

We have not had problems ordering off children's menus or ordering just appetizers. You might want to mention it to your waiter/waitress. We have always found Disney dining to be accommodating to special needs. Hope you do, too!
