I cannot believe the price of gas!!! The prices are just crazy! I also cannot believe that this is not making the news like it did a few years ago. It was all over the news than, but nothing now! It just cost me $90 to fill up my car. We will now spend about $200 a week for 3 cars and that is without having to drive real far. My DH also spend $95 a week to commute into the city. How can our economy get better when people have to put so much of their earnings into their car?!?!

It is called conditioning. The price keeps going up and down to where one is at first shocked at the super high price, then they start lowering it till it is still above what it was, but one is just thankful for what it is now.

Then they start going back up again. This yo-yo effect conditions one not to be so shocked, and after awhile, it just is what it is, part of every day life.

One drives slower, not as far, or as much. Then once the amount of gas used declines, they reduce the amount available and thus once again, the price goes up, in order for the original sellers of petroleum, to maintain and/or increase the amount of money they were making before.

I know it is terrible but I don't even look at the price any more. Where I live, public transportation is not an option so I have to drive. I love my mini van but I can't wait for the day that we can scale back to something with better gas mileage.

What kind of cars do you have and why 3? I agree it is high. $3.90 around here. We traded down for smaller vehicles (DH used to have a truck) and it saved bundles. We now plan trips more rather than driving around just willy nilly.

We have 3 cars since my DS uses the 3rd to drive him and his 2 sisters back and forth to school. He usually pays for gas for his car but I will about once a month.

We have a large van for our business, it is filled every few days. Then to boot we have to fill the propane for it as well.

Yup, it usually costs us around $80 to fill up one of our vehicles, every 2 weeks (mine).

However, we are the ones that made the choice to buy it, so you won't hear me complaining too often about gas prices.

DH fills up about once a week, at around $50.

I have a confession to make - the gas prices going up ....it's our fault. Yup - every time, I mean every time, we get ready to drive to WDW gas prices go up significantly. The other reasons the gov puts out there for higher gas prices are all to protect us from the masses (imagine how many people would be after us to stop traveling if they knew the truth!) :rotfl:

Good news is we're heading down on Saturday and back before the end of the month so gas prices will start to go down again once we're back home!

Yes. Prices are too high. Some days it doesn't pay to drive to work. :(

where im at in canada a litre is 1.29 which works out to about 4.88 a gallon :)

It's not rocket science. It's not on the news because it's not news anymore. Gas prices will only continue to rise, with brief periods of decline, but alway inexorably upward.

If your car uses too much gas, buy a car with better fuel efficiency.
If your commute is too long, move closer to work or find a job closer to home.

These are all personal choices you've made; live with it or change it. Don't whine about it.

I saw on my local news where several "Lukoil"-branded stations have inflated their gas prices (to $9.99 a gallon!) as a means to voice their protests to the gasoline wholesalers, in that region.

Ouch!

To bad things aren't that easy in the real world. Not everyone has the money to get a new car. Jobs are pretty hard to come by so just getting a new job that closer to home isn't that easy

I never said it was easy. But since you can only control the things you personally can control, it makes no sense to whine about the things you can't.

Digging in your heels and saying "but its sooooooooo haaaaaaaard" is not exactly dealing with the situation. If some about your life bothers you, change it, or stop whining about it. That's what adults do.

I disagree. The media is biased and chooses what to put on the news.

It would cost ALOT more to buy a more fuel effiecient car or to move closer to work. Do you know all of the costs that are involved with moving or buying another car? Just the taxes alone on a car are enormous!

No one is whining. What needs to be changed are the gas prices!

Considering this is the budget board and we can't control the price of gas.. it seems natural that every once in a while a thread shows up to whine about it.

And since these are the disboards, it seems like its also natural that someone posts a reply that is just plain mean.

Like pp said, hard to change jobs when you are lucky to have one and there is double digit unemployment. Hard to save enough for a down payment on a new affordable car or to pay cash on a used one when your wallet is empty from paying extra for gas, for food and utilities- all of which are rising because of the price of gas.(especially when you know you have to have 6-12months emergency money instead of the 3months worth that previous generations were told) Can't accept a job in another state when you can't sell your current house which is underwater...but you're faithfully paying your mortgage while around you people are walking away driving down values. Just so much you can do or cut and yes sometimes we want to whine.

Until the government stops allowing the price of oil to be determined on futures and speculating, we won't see any relief. What I'd like to know is why the price of gas at the pump is as high as when barrel prices were closer to $140 in 2007/2008 and now they are much less?

OP- vent away...many of us feel your pain.

Thank You! I completely agree with your post!

What do you drive and where do you live? That plays a huge role in it. We live in Alaska and gas is definitely expensive here compared to where I'm from (Florida). I still hardly pay over $60 in gas. We have a minivan that is decent on gas and a small car. We average a tank of gas a week per driver.

I'm just not phased by gas prices after spending so much time in Europe. Everything is going up in price, not just gas.

When we bought our truck 10 years ago, it was to travel more and save on airfare.... who knew gas would get to $4.20 a gallon.

I can't afford a new car payment so that option is out. and no I can't afford a used car either. (we just renovated the house..no money to spare for a while)

I'm not whining about it, I don;t have to like it at all, and most people certainly can't change it.

I know we made a choice, but the selfish gluttony of the stock holders in the oil companies are to blame...its all about them making more money!
