Gas Prices?

Is anyone else concerned about the rising gas prices? Last night our prices jumped $0.26! We have a road trip to Orlando planned for this summer. If gas continues to go up that may not happen.

Yes, we drive from Miami to Orlando often and usually take my Civic because it more comfy for us than my husband's Yaris but last few times we took the Yaris because it's a huge gas saver.

I drive 25 miles each way to and from work and gas has been killing me.

Exactly, we are going in April and I recently bought a durango since we are a family of 5 sometimes 6 when my oldest daughter visits, and I am starting to thinking about weighing the cost of renting something smaller. Its just such a long trip to be cramped in a smaller car.

I agree that airfare is totally outrageous. That is not even an option for us with over $400/ pp. Driving is a much better option! But with $5-$6/ gallon that price is going to be up too. Uggg


Tiff- I am questioning our new car purchase as well. We got a Toyota Highlander. Should have gotten a Prius??

I saw a jump in air fairs the other morning till the the same afternoon, we were close to booking anyway but it sure made me jump on them that same day! two months ago prices for 4 to fly was $250.00 cheaper, in one day it went up $200.00 for the four of us. I also found a cheaper deal breaking our flights to "one way" tickets each way vs. round trip on Orbitz.

As for driving we chose to drive from Charleston down to Orlando because of the flight time vs. hrs of driving was only 1 hr difference so we chose the scenic route. besides rental discount + fuel + total time to drive made sense for us to drive down to Orlando instead of flying, huge savings!

Today I have to fill up my car.......that is going to be an $80.00 ticket : (

I worry less about the price of fuel at the pump and more about how much food, electricity, water, clothes and so on will go up because of the price increase of fuel at the pump. It is an across the board type of thing. In addition your property taxes will increase and since some medicines, clothing and food are produced as byproducts of oil so they will increase in price...

To answer your question....no i don't worry about it. I work hard and when it is time to go away, we go. It will cost what ever it costs.

I may be cynical but I have a feeling that the closer to the election gas prices will come down. So driving later in the summer may be not so bad.

Well, I'm not sure getting a Prius would have been better, the batteries don't last forever and they are not environmentally friendly to dispose of. Just saying.

Gas prices have jumped here too, which sucks because we just planned a trip to DL for next week, we drive and the gas is going to be more than we had planned for. If they continue to rise DBF will have to start taking the train to work (right now paying for gas costs us less and it gives him the flexibility he needs/wants) so I can drive the car and the minivan will just be parked most of the time.....I really do not want to pay $100 to fill up the van!

I try not to worry about things that are beyond my control. I was traveling to PA from Fl every 3months or so and was wondering how in the world we were going to budget that in but thankfully I don't have to do that anymore. OP I hope that prices will come back down so you don't have to cancel your trip. I think after the elections prices will go back down.

Gas is up to $3.69 in Columbus.

did anyone else hear that at the Lake Beuna Vista Shell station gas was $5.89? I'm really hoping that was a miss print. Gas here is $3.59 today up 10 cents.

No, it isn't a misprint. There are a couple stations around the Orlando area that rip off motorists...that is one of them.

Make sure you ALWAYS check the pump price before you put gas in. If I'm remembering correctly, that is also the station that doesn't post its prices.

I'm not sure what to think of it. I'm more concerned about how much it will be during the summer when we do a lot more driving. Last night I paid 4.05 a gallon granted I use vpower but still it was a 29 cent jump per gallon then a week ago.

Yep expect to see close to if not over $5 by June. Gas was $4.05 this morning. We have 3, maybe 4 trips down to Disneyland planned between now & October when our AP's expire. Our gas budget has jumped 30% - 50%.

Well, estimate the number of gallons the trip will cost you, figure out the total cost with the price now and the price if it's 5 or 6 dollars per gallon. Then see if you can find that extra. Instead of just being worried about it, PLAN for it.

The article cherry-picked the stations they went to. Chose the worst stations that are KNOWN problems. Most of the gas stations in the area have normal prices.
