Just watched the evening news and yes, gas prices are up again. They are saying that prices would be $3.00 or over by Memorial Day :sad2: Is this going to affect your trip? We are all set to leave on May 25. We nearly froze to death(well it seemed like it) this winter to keep the utility bills down to a payable level so we could still go to Disney. Now I'm worried about the gas prices for the trip. On March 1 gas was $2.03 here and now it is $2.75. and after the jump in prices today who knows what it will be tomorrow. I have also heard rumblings about shortages. What to do?????? What have your heard???

I know that stinks :furious: I live in NY and I can not say that I have seen the gas at 203 in a year or more. I am still going .... my friend brought this up medical has gone up and gas and utlities every thing has gone up but... the paycheck

That is the TRUTH! My paycheck seems to never go up. I work in Higher Edu. and all other state employees get twice the raises we get. I'm going but we may have to push the van.

Oh but the Exxon Mobile exec made 100.44 cents a MINUTE. NBC nightly news said he made like 600 some odd million dollars in the last few years.

Nope, there isn't any greed at all.

As high as gas prices are going it is still cheaper by a long shot to drive down to FL from Michigan.... As Auto Gas goes up so too does Jet Fuel Therefore Airline tickets will be on the rise shortly as well.

BTW... Welcome to the 3.00 mark! We have been there since Good Friday.

Unleaded $3.00 Super $3.10 Premium $3.20

My dh is a GM of a gas station on the NJ Turnpike and their gas is going up another 14 cents tomorrow morning :sad2: From what they are being told it is going to keep going up into the summer--eeep! The sad thing is that free or even discounted gas is not a perk of his job and since he doesn't drive we have to drive him back and forth to the station twice a day so we are spending a small fortune on gas!

I am SO glad this semester is almost over. Just 2 exam days and 2 review days left - I commute about 80 miles each way to campus. At least it's going up as the semester is winding down. I still have one more class to take this summer to finish out the degree but haven't decided which to do yet - but either option works out that I work from home. One is to complete a professional field experience. . if I can't get one lined up by May 22nd, then I do a course where I read a bunch of books and write papers and just show up the first and last day.

I was debating a different course which would have had me making that commute 5 days a week for 6 weeks. No way could I afford it. I'd have been spending at least $100 a week in gas.

It's pretty sad when I'm sitting here debating how worthwhile those review days are. It's already costing about $30 a day to get to class. . . I'm sure now it'll be around $40. I might be better off rereading the chapters a few more times and memorizing notes at home. Probably learn more that way too, LOL.

At what price do ya'll feel yourself making different decisions? I can feel myself thinking about not going certain places at about $2.50/gal. For example, our library is about a 15 minute drive for me. A week ago I checked out 3 DVDs. They were due this last Wednesday but I remembered on Thursday. I drove to the library on Thursday and they were already closed and it said that we could not drop them in the book drop. We just moved here so this was my first experience with this library. Anyway, they were closed Friday so I scooted over there today. I had to pay a $3 fine. I told the lady that after one drives as much as I did to return the DVDs, I might as well as bought them. I get around 20miles/gallon so it cost me $5 in gas for 2 trips plus the fine. I definitely start to do less outings as the prices go up.

What about you?

It's all a bunch of BS anyway....

The price rises on speculation. The market is speculating that something will happen with Iran. Then, the news tries to panic everyone saying that gas will go up to $5 per gallon....then, everything settles back down again.

I guarantee that the news people were predicting $3.50 per gallon right before the price of gas went back down to the low $2's.....

High gas prices actually helps me. I feel sorry for some people and I wouldn't want the gas prices to go to $4...but, working for a tug boat company down in Louisiana.....high oil prices are a good thing for us.

The people I don't feel sorry for are the people who complain about the price of gas while driving around in Tahoes and Suburbans. If you can afford a $40k vehicle...then, you should be able to afford an extra $15 per week to fill it up. If not, then sell the thing and buy something more fuel efficient.

No....It doesn't have to be a hybrid....but, I drive around in a 5-speed Corolla and my wife drives an automatic Camry. Between the 2 of us....we spend the same amount of money in fuel as my friend driving a Suburban.

Speed :teleport:

when we left wdw on sunday april 9th gas outside the park was $3.00 so Im sure it will be much higher now! I think its crazy too...but what choice do we have?? I cant afford a new car yet so I guess I will have to pay it!

We drive a Ford Expedition AKA GAS GUZZLER....that is our family car and we both have Jeep Wranglers that we drive around day to day traffic to save on gas. Our trip to WDW is coming in July and we have plans to drive the Expedition but if the prices keep going up we may just come out cheaper to fly. :confused3

On the average we spend about 500.00 a month on gas (that is a car payment and almost as much as my house payment) IT IS RIDICULOUS!!!!

Our cheap stuff here is $2.81 !!!! UGHHHHHHH

We are over $3.00 a gallon here.... for the cheap stuff

 :confused3 gas has been a steady 2.79 for the cheap stuff for a good month, it goes up to 2.89 or 2.99 and in a week they'll drop it back to 2.79. our family is already thinking of how we can get to nearby errands walking, putting baskets on the bikes..........

I'm just more careful about how I plan things, try to run errands together and do everything in one trip. As for the driving to WDW I have to multiply the airfare by four so it really still will be cheaper to drive than to fly. We are doing what we can to lessen the burden--fuel efficient vehicles, turning down thermastats, etc, but it is crazy that so much depends on speculation and corporate greed.

Getting ready to leave for Florida in 2 Weeks! Driving! We planned on 300$ in fuel round trip. Now at 3$ per gal. - it will run $450. Checked into flying but thats $900+ for 4 still cheaper to drive dare I say. I do consolidate and change my driving habits for $3 a gallon. AND YES I do drive an expedition- IT's paid for in full. To the poster who said, just sell them and buy something cheaper...who'd buy it at a decent price now? I couldn't sell it if I wanted too. We even MOVED to a smaller house recently to be in the same city as our jobs to cut costs.. and guess what? Now Gas/Electric will be going up 75% due to some deregulation @#!t. Can't win.
Thanks for letting me vent.

We are planning on driving too. It's still cheaper for us. There are 5 of us so the $$ for flying will be pricey and we are staying offsite so we'd have to rent a car too. I am planning my errands together and hopefully that will save some money.

As another gas guzzler owner ( love my Sub) I will just have to rethink all the driving I normally do and consolidate trips (Did it last summer when prices went up will just have to do it again) Also means the kids have to start getting up earlier again so they can start riding the bus again. Also traveling at better times during the day ( not that anyone likes to be in rush hour stop n go). Now instead of quarters for Disney it is going to be quarters for gas :thumbsup2

I am nervous about August. Maybe things will settle down by then. It's hard to keep budgeting for more necessities all the time.
I just sold 2 beds on Saturday. I guess that will go for gas now.

Gas was at $2.98 yesterday for the cheap stuff! We leave next week for Disney! Last time we drove it cost $ 140 round trip (almost 4 years ago) My guess is that I can almost triple that this time! :sad2: Oh well, I'm still gonna have a fun time! :thumbsup2
