oh no not you again. another thread i am not going to "fight" with you over. And please stop being so RUDE to me in all of your post directed toward me you have been flat out RUDE. I can afford $150.00 !!! I love to travel, and i cant help it that i travel alot. So like i said i am not going to fight with you in this thread also.

How was my post rude? It was quite factual.

I wasn't speaking spefically to you, I was talking in general terms. If I was talking to you--who is coming from Atlanta--don't you think I would have used the milage from Atlanta???

You need to grow a little thickness on that skin and pay attention to what you are reading.

I am just sitting here wishing we got 20 mpg. :)

Our gas budget went from 370.00 to 450.00 ( a little over estimation, makes us feel all warm and fuzzy to come in under budget...lol). Not a trip breaker, but still an ouch when it just burns away. :rolleyes2

NY legislators are trying to get the state to drop the tax when the price goes over 2.00 a gallon. Sounds good to me. Doubting they will go for it. That's what NY does best....tax us!!

Let's say you've got a 2000 mile round trip. Your car gets 20 mpg. That's 100 gallons of gas for teh trip. Even if gas goes up $1.50 over what it was six months earlier, that's only $150.

Anyone who has a vacation budget so tight that $150 is going to be a deal breaker maybe should be thinking twice about going to begin with.

For the most part, flying isn't going to be less expensive either, because plane tickets are going way up as well.

Wow $150.00 round trip. I want your car. Dsis and I did the AAA calculator and it will cost well over $300.00 rt for gas. Of course she has to drive a Ford Expedition. I tired to talk her into flying but she said she didn't pay $40.000 for her baby to sit at home in the drive way :rotfl: Not everyone drives a small car so some will pay more for gas. Susan

I think she was saying a $150 INCREASE in the cost of the gas for the trip, not a $150 total cost (i.e., $1.50 more per gallon times 100 gallons).

It's still cheaper for my family to drive than to fly. It sucks with the price increase, it basically takes money out of something else like a nicer meal, or extra souvinears or whatever.

Last year we went down the first week in October after Katrina when gas was 2.99 if not over 3. It cost us 364 round trip. We went again 7 weeks later after Thanksgiving and it cost us 254 round trip. 110 cheaper.

So being that I know the oil companies are greedy and figured it would happen again this year I budgeted 350 for gas these next trips. Yeah its going to suck but not a whole lot I can do about it.

I always hate the part of the drive from my home to WDW involving I-75. But I do have to drive about 120 miles on the darned thing, and it's always uptight time for me.

And with gas prices high, one is advised to slow down at least to the speed limit; but if you try to slow down to the speed limit on I-75 you'll get ran over. It's like a speedway on that highway.

Much more dangerous than Mission Space ever thought about being.

We are still driving. A rental is $265 and we will spend about $300 on gas. Total is $565ish. We can't fly for that, best I have seen is $700plus Then we have the rental down there and pay for that gas(must have a car while in Disney). So, we are still saving a few hundred.

Well said you fellow Western New Yorker!! It would be 21 hours to drive to Disney. I have a big SUV whose is a gas hog so flying is going to be actually cheaper, now if Southwest would release their dates to include September I would be happy.....

I am in NY too and kicking myself in the A** for not buying the $59 each way on southwest. I am hoping that a new special will come out. I am leaving in a month and could have saved alot by flying!

That was $150 over what was originally budgeted, not $150 total.

Although, DH has a Prius, and even with gas at $3 gallon, it costs him about $150 to drive from NJ to FL.

But my post was saying $150 over budget.

Anne

Ducklite, Wouldn't that be nice if it was only $150.00 rt :rotfl2: . AHHHHHHHHH the good ole day's, when you could travel to disney cheap and the kids didn't need all the bells and whistle's just to make the drive. I remember my kids playing the license plate game along with other non electronic entertainment and just being happy they were going to disney. Susan

Round trip fuel costs on the AAA site I posted above, using my car as an example, was about $95. How can two people fly round trip for that? Plus, with all that's involved in security, flying would probably be just as long a trip! Factor in the convenience of having your car, and the fact that you won't have to pack everything as carefully--its a no-brainer!

Unless your car is not reliable. In that case, I'd recommend renting a car at home and driving it to wdw.
Have fun!!!!!

I live in Atlanta and I won't drive to Disney. Gas is $95, wear and tear on the car is another unknown amount and 7 hours each way is not something I think makes any of it worthwhile.. I watch the airfares and either wait for a good sale (under $200) or drive only 2 hours to Birmingham and fly SW.

My driving limit is under 5 hours. Otherwise I try to fly!
