Good seeds are important, but not as important as good soil, not even close.
Always try new varieties, but it's best not to rely on them. When somebody
shows you their garden or around their farm, compliment them on something. At
least once a season, even if on a small scale, do the manual version of something
that you normally do with a machine. Ask yourself what the insects are telling
you -- you will almost always know. If you borrow a tool, return it with some
improvement. The most effective way to starve a plant is to underwater it.
Buy a tool made in a place where the people who live there are apt to actually
use that tool. Plant positive is always better than pest negative. As a small
garden gift to a neighbor, a bunch of flowers is usually better than a bag of
zucchini, unless maybe the zucchinis are tiny, and you put three of your best
tomatoes in with them. Carefully tending your crops is right up there in importance,
but not at the top
