I am TRYING to grow some Morning Glories and Moonflowers from seeds.

I had some planted in the ground... until a squirrel came and ate every last one of them.

Now, I am TRYING to grow some in little Dixie cups in my kitchen.

Tell me if I am doing this right...

I bought four packs of Burpee seeds... 2 MG's and 2 MF's. I soaked them ALL in warm water for 24-hours. Most DID start swelling and splitting apart. I placed about 10 seeds of the MG's and 5 seeds of the MF's in Dixie cups filled with soil, watered them, and they are now on my sunny kitchen windowsill. :goodvibes I am HOPING they will sprout.

Did I do anything wrong?

IF they sprout, how do I transplant them into the ground. And, how do I keep that darn squirrel away... :rolleyes1

They should be fine. Keep the soil moist but not sopping wet. Warning - once they start growing they will grow very quickly. You will want to get them in the garden quickly so they don't get "leggy". I would suggest you just tear the bottoms off the dixie cups and plant the whole cup.

ETA - are you in Michigan? Check your "last frost" date. Here in Chicago it is usually end of April but I tend to wait until Mother's Day. If you get frost warnings after you have transplanted your seedlings you may want to cover them up at night.

 Uh oh. I think the soil was pretty wet last night. I overwatered a little by mistake. I tried to drain the water out as best I could. Did I kill them?

Poke a few small holes in the bottoms of the cups. THey should be fine.

Oh, and I have been keeping an eye on the frost. Thanks so much for the help! :goodvibes

You are welcome. I used to start seeds every year but I have become lazy in my old age. :)

I am trying all kinds of garden things this year with the house! All we ever had before was the little patch of grass from our rental townhouse. Not so much fun.

My backyard was nothing but a rectangle of grass and two trees 13 years ago. I understand your enthusiasm. Don't worry if you have setbacks. I have learned a lot from making some really poor choices. Take "before" photos so you can see your progress.
