garden view tea room

i need some feedback. i am a professional disney vacationer
and when i go in april, i was thinking of taking my daughter, 5 to the garden view tea room. i am reading about it via disney.com and it is not giving me enough info. 1st- i dont think we will go the princess tea party because, gasp, my daughter is not into princesses. but she has taken a liking to tea parties and all the pomp. for anyone who has done just the tea room with scones, tea and tea sandwiches; give me some feedback some descriptions etc. is the room gorgeous ( im sure it is a gf) do we wear sundress and big hats and gloves? what else? TIA

Here are some pictures from my september trip. I've done the tea room 5 times now and it has become a staple in my trips. Though no one I know/have gone with has had children I have seen parties with children of all ages. If you haven't seen the menu here is the link I find it's pretty up to date. As far as attire I believe it's basic park attire, I am sure if you wanted too dress up some you could. I've seen people dress up for the tea, I've also seen (and been in) my jeans and tshirt with sneakers. It's a really relaxing time and be prepaired for it to take anywhere from one to three hours!

Tea sandwich's, I believe they were shrimp salad, egg salad, curry chicken salad (it was sweet not spicy), pear and gargonzola, and cucumber and watercress with an onion tart.

I took my DD7 last trip. Honestly, I think she was a bit bored. Service, while great, was extremely leisurely. She loved the hot chocolate (best I have ever had actually) but didn't like the sandwiches. She had them boxed up for daddy. I thought the price was very reasonable. I would say to definitely try it once. As far as the room. It is the open room directly off the lobby. Not sure we would do it again but I'm glad we did it once, if that makes sense?

Has anyone ever done this with boys? Or have you seen anyone there with boys?

I have 2 wonderful DS's but no daughters. I am afraid I will never get to go to an afternoon tea unless I wait for a trip where we bring grandparents along who can keep the boys busy while we enjoy tea and scones.

My DD7, DD9, and I all love the Afternoon Tea. We went there last March with my MIL for the first time and the 3 of us are going back this Mother's Day (DH is going to fend for himself then). My girls each get the Mrs. Pott's Tea where they can choose from either juice, white milk, chocolate milk, or hot chocolate in a real china tea pot and then they get PB&J sandwiches or ham and cheese sandwiches, after that they get to choose a pastry for dessert. I like the Buckingham Palace Tea where you choose the tea to drink then you have finger sandwiches, scones and jelly, and pastries for dessert. If you don't like pastries you could have strawberries and whip cream instead. I highly recommend this, especially if your little girl likes tea parties. My girls and I have decided to make this a must do each trip....poor DH will have to find something else to do

1) The Afternoon Tea is a relaxing break from the hustle of the parks.
2) Most people wear business-casual, but some really get dressed for it

3) It is a great activity for mother-daughter
4) BUT, even us guys enjoy the afternoon tea!
5) We do "tea" 2-3 times per month in the area.
6) We always do GF-tea at least once per month.

NOTE: The TEA is in a friendly atmosphere, a relaxing
way to put a break in the day, with low noise level
and seldom any loud talking. A major negative for the
true tea aficionado, they serve only Pekoe (BP & BOP) tea,
hence, the "C+" for quality.

We try to do this on every trip. Love it. Usually get the Buckingham Palace Tea w/ Eros as my tea of choice. ♥ Eros! We always wear park attire (jeans, t-shirt) but have seen all kinds of attire here. The room is kinda small but very pretty. Lots of windows! Click on the link for some great pics...

I brought my DS to the tea when he was about 8. He loved all of the pomp and the fancy things. We did dress up for it - it was part of the fun of going. I wore a nice sundress with a hat and he wore knickers, a nice white shirt and an old fashioned cap. We both had a good time there.

The seats were comfy, the room is nice due to the windows and you can also look out into the lobby, and the servers were very attentive. Loved the cheeses. I thought the price was good considering what you can get.

thank you. this succinctly tells me what i wish to know. i think she is going to wear her "riverboat dress" and sunhat and gloves and who cares what i wear right? she will like this and she will actually drink tea, with 2 sugar cubes!
