Garden Grocer

We have used the service a couple times. My wife booked it and does not remember if there was a min purchase. She did say that the delivery fee was lower for a larger purchase.

I am not aware of any minimum and they do not seem to mention one. There is a $12 delivery charge, which is waived if you buy $200 or more.

although now that I think about it ordering our "spirits" should be enough to meet any minimum;)

I just called both places yesterday as I am trying to figure out which one to use and I want to get some beer and maybe some alcohol delivered too.

WeGoShop will charge an additional $5 fee to make a separate stop for anything that's not available at the store where they pick up your groceries (ie liquor). WeGo's fee for one-stop shopping is $17 and I don't think there's a minimum order. You type in your specific requested items yourself (they don't have a list that you pick from). They will give you the actual receipt from where they shop so there is no mark-up on the items. They charge an additional 10% gratuity to leave the groceries with Bell Services and another 3% fee to pay by credit card rather than by cash. If you want any sort of alcohol delivered they need you to scan your ID and email it to them with your order.

Garden Grocer has a $40 min. order and their fee is $12. Their prices DO have a mark-up on them and you have to shop from a pre-set list on their website. They will also pick up beer and / or alcohol and they ask that you FAX a copy of your ID to them with your order confirmation number on it. If you are not there to receive it they will leave it with Bell Services and will refrigerate any items that need it. I do not believe they charge anything extra for using a credit card or for leaving it. If you pay by credit card they will go ahead & charge your card for everything that's on the list when you place your order. Then they will call you with the additional charge(s) for any alcohol or beer that's added (prices for that are not available online).

These things are important to me to sort out as we are arriving EARLY on a Sunday and I know our villa will not be ready for us. Our groceries will need to be stored at Bell Services for several hours at a minimum unless I request a later delivery. Problem is I don't necessarily want to HAVE to be there when it's delivered. So we may as well get it delivered around the time we anticipate arriving. Then I'll just check on it to be sure that it's put with our luggage or whatever before we head out to the parks.

I was concerned about the prices on the Garden Grocer site, so I picked several items that I would likely buy from them. I wrote down the prices and then took the list to my local grocery store for camparison. Yes, some items were $1 or so higher, but the same percentage of items were $1 or so LOWER. In the end, it was a wash as far as increased price goes from what I normally spend.

The girl at Garden Grocer that I spoke to on the phone said they do have a mark-up on their products but she wasn't sure of the percentage. Living in the DC suburbs I think we live in an area where prices are naturally higher than in a lot of the country...I know what I pay for things like Thomas' Presliced Bagels & Phila. Cream Cheese & bottled water. Those are items I would normally buy like at Target or Wal-Mart rather than my local grocery store as there is a significant price difference unless I catch it on sale. Anyway, Garden Grocer's prices were higher than what I would pay at my grocery store by about 25-50 cents per item and about $1 higher than what I would pay at Target. None of the prices were lower. A case of bottled water was A LOT higher tho. I often buy it on sale for $3.99 / case and their price was $6.99 for store brand & $7.99 for like Deer Park or something. I guess that's a hot commodity down there but it sure beats Disney's price!! I'm just not sure what "normal" prices are like in FL.

I still haven't decided which service to use, but Marge at WeGo said her calendar is booking up fast for Aug. 16 while GG said they still have plenty of openings. That may just be due to GG being a larger organization tho.:confused3 I may decide by default just based on the avail. date!!

I have no doubt that the prices are inflated, but I just wanted to compare what their items cost compared to what they are in my store at home. I guess the price difference whether good or bad may depend both on where you live and where you shop. Excellent point about Target and Wal-mart. I do often get snacks and things from Target, but I really did not even think to compare those. (Fortunately we have a Target run planned, so that will be next! :)) The Wal-mart near where I live is INSANE, so I refuse to go in there just to keep me from becoming a homicidal maniac. :rotfl2:

We've used GG before and they're great!

Their prices are definitely higher than the grocery store if you compare it to what you'd pay in the shop in the resort or ordering from the form that DVC has for grocery orders I think its about the same if not cheaper from GG.

I'm going to be ordering a bunch of breakfast items, snacks and drinks etc for our trip on Jan and I'm trying to decided what's best too!

They actually have a tiered price structure. The fee depends on how much the grocery bill was.

Groceries up to $100 = $17 fee
Groceries $100 - $200 = $22 fee
Groceries $200 - $300 = $32 fee
Groceries > $300 = 12% fee

Ooops! Sorry! My bad... I am only looking at getting some breakfast items, water, Gatorade & beer so I should be under that minimum $100 tier!!
