Garden Grocer vs. Walmart via taxi?

I consider that extremely poor service. Some of you may disagree and want your order delivered before you arrive - but I didn't :)
A feeling to which you are entirely entitled :teeth: It'd be fine with me if somebody else delivered my groceries and put them away (every time I shop, not just on vacation ;)). I just wanted to assure you that your food WAS handled safely.

:)

Actually, unless you work for GG, or personally handled my food, you can't assure me of anything :)

My complaint isn't that it wasn't handled properly, but that they ignored their own required delivery times and delivered whenever they felt like or were in the area.

Like I said, it was a big order with fresh meat and frozen veggies - I would have liked to be there when it was delivered. If we were talking about some cereal and bottles of water, I wouldn't have cared either.

Did you call or write the owner about this? I bet she didn't know her assistant is attempting to 'intimidate' clients into specific tip percentages.

Quite honestly, no. I decided after the whole delivery fiasco that I was not going to use the company again and I did not want to contact them to complain.

Most likely (but, I'm aware, not proven) this would be attributed to things like refusing to answer the phone while driving; or being on the phone with another customer; or actually being with a customer...

I understand that. I was just stating that it was annoying. I know I sound very impatient. I'm not normally, but when you're asked to call someone, and you do, you probably would want them to answer the phone. I'm at Disneyworld... I will do enough waiting on lines. I don't want to have to wait for a grocery delivery that I scheduled for a specific time. And for all the call backs.

Oh, plus, the assistant answered a phone call while I was outside with her. So I know that they *will* answer the phone in front of a customer.

Interesting. You can call it what you like, but the credit card companies prohibit vendors from surcharging, i.e. passing on the 3% or so that the credit card companies charge them, on to the consumer.

If WGS is not passing on the 3% credit card fee, then the "cash discount" the offer should be off of the grocery total. Instead, you are charged 3% of the grocery total for non-cash/check payments plus the shopping/delivery fee. So to me, that is making someone pay extra in order to use a credit card. I know that vendors are not supposed to do this, but it's done. Just like having a minimum charge amount-- not supposed to be done, but it is.

I just wanted to share my experiences, having used both companies. There are plenty of people that don't like GG and that is fine with me. I'll continue to shop with them, as they make my trip easier. Plenty of people like WGS, and that's also fine with me. I'm sure there's plenty of business to go around. Both companies are valuable.

I don't - but I was referring to how Bell Services handled your perishables. ANY grocery items that need to be refrigerated are, and any items that need to be frozen are - in a unit inside Bell Services. Then Bell Services delivers your groceries to your room, and refrigerates (freezes where appropriate/possible) those same items in your unit's fridge.

But, um, I thought your issue was with WeGoShop, not with Garden Grocer?

Not at all, I've posted my issue is with Garden Grocer. See my post #10 in this thread.

I was thrilled with the service I received from wegoshop. Particularly the personal contact, obviously hand picked quality of the food, and the delivery was spot on. As a matter of fact, I was called before the delivery to make sure I was in my room.

We've done the grocery stop - we've done the garden grocer delivery - and we've done the pack the non-perishables and pick up perishables.

Grocery stop was the worst value - for us we did it with a towncar service from the airport in the days before ME - which made it darn reasonable. But shopping in an unfamiliar store (even WalMarts are laid out differently from place to place) made it difficult to do it efficiently. We also ended up with far more than we needed because it was too easy to get in "in case" - which led to a lot of waste. It was an early trip with kids for us - and we didn't have experience in how much "in room" food we'd need. Took too much time - led to too much waste.

The subsequent trips we pack some shelf stuff, and pick up a few things at the gift shop store. The prices at the gift shop store are high, and the selection is minimal - but it meets our needs well - and the prices are not so high that we'd be better off taking a cab. Takes little time - almost no waste.

Last trip we had toddlers with us again, so arranged for Garden Grocer. Service was fine, and with a big party (there were eight of us), the amount we ordered in perishables made up for the delivery charge. But we did have more waste again than we had. The thing about packing is that I keep my packing light, so there isn't the temptation to have more than one kind of cereal for the trip - where with GG I let my kids get two boxes. And we can repurchase the perishables - so we don't end up with "extra" milk.

If you have a need for heavy stuff or perishable that isn't available on site or is so expensive onsite that delivery makes for a good value, a delivery service makes sense. I don't think a cab is ever going to make sense - getting to WalMart will be about $40 round trip and will take valuable vacation time when you could be sitting by the pool.

Wee Goooo's service charge just went up. Check the website. Thread going on now ion the DVC board.
