We're looking at having groceries delivered in August. I've noticed that some of the prices through garden grocer are a bit ridiculous, but I also know that I'm comparing them to prices around here which, unfortunately for me, is nowhere near Disney. So I'm wondering how prices through them compare to prices at the surrounding stores . I expect there to be a markup, but I'm curious how much of one there is!
TIA!

We find it cheaper to rent a car and do our own shopping. Some of the items from GardenGrocer were marked up $1 per item. On a large order, by the time you pay for the mark up and the tip, we can rent a car for about the same price. The last time we used them it took 3 days for them to fix a mistake. When we shop for ourselves, there are no mistakes.

I am giving them a try for the first time this coming week. We always rent a car anyway, but this trip I thought I would check out if the convenience is worth the expenditure.

This will allow us to head to the pool on check in day or the parks rather than troop out to the grocery store as is usually the case. I did a basic order with items such as bottled waters, gatorade, breakfast items, dairy products, bakery items and frozen convenience foods. For our family of 4 I kept it under $100 with tax and tip too.

I will let you all know how it works out afterwards. :)

We're also trying out Garden Grocer for the first time next week. We just placed a very basic online order last night (after I struggled with online registration and finally had to call them). The prices were high, but not ridiculous, and we're doing without a car this time (UGH...all the bus problems lately!!!).

I, too, will give my report on how well they work out for us.

I will be ordering from them again soon. Second time for me. Had no problems first time and hopefully will have the same experience. We won't have a car and items will still be a bit less than getting them at the resort.

We are arriving at AKV on Sunday and our GG order will be there. This will also be our first time using them. We will be there for 11 nights, and plan on cooking a few nights and having breakfast in the room every day, so our order was pretty big, but not much more than we would spend at home for the same amount of time and circumstances.

I will give a report next week!

We used them recently and were happy.I found the prices were pretty much the same as my local grocery store:confused3 Although when I read about average prices of milk, gas, etc in the country it is always higher here than the average:sad2: I found it so easy to be able to sit at my computer at home and do my shopping. It was waiting for me at bell services when I checked in.Very convenient.

As a former Taxachusetts resident, I know what you're talking about. Not much better here, though:confused3

Yeah, DW and I had a lot of fun shopping last night.

An instant Disney addict, eh...gee, it took me three trips! Welcome to the club:goodvibes

I'll look for reports from some of you in the coming weeks :goodvibes

But I'm curious if anyone can compare them to a store in the area of Disney ?:thumbsup2 For example, a pack of hot dogs or pound of ground beef was around $4 through garden grocer, a 24-pack of water was $7.50 or so, and a gallon of chocolate milk would've run me a day's park ticket (I think it would've been almost $8 for a gallon's worth IIRC). If I were to go to publix or the walmart near the resorts, how much would I pay for something like that?

Around here, the hot dogs and beef would be $2 each, the water $4.50 (we looked last night on that one) and the milk $3.19--so on those 4 items alone it would be an $11 markup. I have a friend that lives in the area that can take me shopping, but I don't want to spend time doing it only to find that the beef is going to cost me $3.75 anyway.

I have found that the Publix by the Queen of the Universe shrine is higher in prices than the Publix on Conway. DDiL stopped in a Publix by Celebration and she said the prices were "out of sight." That is for whatever she wanted (perhaps children'st Tylenol, water), and I had noted the higher prices on cut fruit/salads.

Laura's ground round was over $5 a lb. when I bought it last week in Krogers by me in Ohio.

If you are trying to be thrifty, shop yourself but they are a business and have employees to pay. They have to make a profit somehow, that's what businesses do. We felt it was worth not having to rent a car not to mention how much our time is worth. You are paying for convenience so comparing to prices at home is not a fair comparison, imo. We are giving them a shot on our trip in 2 weeks.

We have been very happy with we go shop. They shop where you want and add a reasonable service fee to the order.

I can't seem to find a Publix on Conway. Do you have their address?

I don't know about prices near disney - but I live in West Palm Beach (about 2 hours south) and those prices sound about right - the choco milk sounds a little high - but then again you are paying for a service. The meat sounds right on the money to me!! We are lucky in that we can drive - but I would be hesitant to rent a car just to save a couple of $$$

I asked DW her opinion on the price thing. We live in PA and our grocery prices are pretty high to start with. She thinks that the GG prices are a little higher, but not that significant compared to what we usually spend, and has been said, GG is also a service that keeps us on WDW property.

Some prices seemed very high to me, while others seemed reasonable. I really don't have any clue about the pricing in FL. Personally, I prefer the fee structure of WeGoShop. You pay a delivery fee with no mark-up on the prices, instead of a price mark-up and no delivery fee. It just seems a little more straight forward and I'm not worried about being ripped off.

I agree! We really liked working with Marge at Wegoshop. She even went to two stores(at not extra cost) to make sure we got what we wanted. She called to say she was running late (ha, 15 minutes?!?)because she was looking for "good strawberries". She and her husband go the extra mile, in more ways than one, to make you happy.
:thumbsup2

We always go to the Publix at 192 and International Dr. Prices are always very good. Go out on 192, maybe 3 miles, the Publix is at the corner of International Dr on the left - just off the main road.

Type this into maps.google.com

Publix Super Market‎
2925 International Dr, Kissimmee, FL

Below is the one "on" Conway - again - google maps gives a good view of where all the Publix stores are.

Publix Super Market‎
4501 Hoffner Ave, Orlando, FL - (407) 850-1018‎

Thanks, I didn't know that Conway was Hoffner.

I feel the same way...for ie. I have to have 30+ jars of baby food for our August trip. It's worth it to me to pay 10cents more a jar to avoid taking it on the plane. By buying a case of water (for $4 more then at home) it will still save me almost $60 vs. buying park water! We will be trying garden grocer for the first time as well.

Just used Garden Grocer last week, and I will definitely use them again. I found their prices very reasonable, and not having to go grocery shopping was wonderful.
