We will be in WDW in August and in the past I have ordered from Garden Grocer. Usually I just get bottled water, some cereal and a gallon of milk and some small snack things that my kids like. Would I be better off stopping at Publix (or another store) instead? We are renting a car and we are not planning on any parks the day we arrive. Any thoughts on this? I just don't know which might be less expensive...Thanks.

Here's an alternative I've used in the past:

Assuming you are flying into Orlando, there is an Albertson's that will shop for you at no charge. It's right on the way (417) to Disney from the Airport.

I've faxed them a shopping list with my flight information. When I arrived at Albertson's, I go to customer service and they wheel out a cart from their walk-in cooler. Everything is already scanned and bagged. You just need to pay the total amount.

Here is the contact information for the store:

Store Number 4462
Store Name S. Orange Blossom Trail and Deerfield
Address 12981 S. Orange Blossom Trail
City Orlando
State FL
Postal Code 32837
Phone (407) 857-5666
FAX (407) 857-0132
Store Hours 6 a.m. till 1 a.m. 7 days a week

It's been a couple of years since I've used them, so you might want to check if they still do this.

I've also had great success with wegoshop.com. It's really more of a personal shopping service. Marge owns the local franchise and she's really spectacular.

But there is a charge for delivery. If you just need a few things, it could be expensive.

It would definitely be more cost effective to go get your own groceries. We, too, are planning to do this as we will be staying at the BCVs this September. I am planning on checking in and letting my family go to Stormalong Bay while I go to get groceries. I would avoid the Goodings supermarket at the Crossroads Shoppping center asthey are high. We have used either Publix on Irlo Bronson Highway or the Winn-Dixie just noth of Goodings on the Apopka-Vineland road.

If I remember correctly the Publix grocery and is close to where all the food places are. We always drive to WDW but make a run to a store for milk, etc. They have a great deli dept and we pick up some fresh fruit to keep in the rooms. Much cheaper than buying a the hotel.

Is there a Super Target or anything like that on the way to WDW from the Orlando International Airport?

there ar 2 walmart super centers 10 minits from downtown disney..1 is on 535 turn right at goodings down 5 minits..the other is on palm parkway...turn left at goodings then first right its down 5 to 8 minits on the left.just opened this year

If you have your own car it would probably take you just a few minutes to stop & save you a few bucks. On the other hand it would be nice to have it done for you & at the resort when you get there. GG charges $12 & tip, so it will probably cost you about $20 extra. 1 last point, if you go yourself you will probably spend the $20 that you paid to GG on more groceries than you need or were planning to get. I know especially with the kids you are going to start throwing more things in the cart than what you planned on. Have it delivered.

I'd go to Publix for a couple of reasons. There could be one or two things that you forgot to put on the list for Garden Grocer. There could be a sale at Publix (they do two for one often) that would make sense for you to get more things for the trip. You would know where it is in case you run out or think of something else you need.

There is a Publix at the intersection of International Drive South and Highway 192 that we use all the time when we are there. Easy in and out from Disney World. You can PM me for detailed directions from your resort.

No, I don't work for Publix, in fact I don't even shop them here at home.

If you are renting a car if would seem to make more financial sense to stop yourself. We rent a car and just stop at on our way from the airport. We stop at one that's very easy off/on and there's also a liquor store right next door so we can have a drink in the evening (much cheaper than buying at the bar) and enjoy the warm weather. I make a list while on the plane (gives me something to do) and only takes a few minutes of time to pop in and out of the two stores. I do not spend a lot of time wandering around the stores. I get what I need and get out.

This year we are staying in a Villa at Christmas.

For the ultimate convenience, we will have our groceries delivered. We will probably pickup a few fresh things on the way to WDW from the airport...but we will not be slepping cases of water, beer, diet pepsi, juice....etc....when we arrive. I'm looking forward to the convenience!
