Garden Grill and It's "Improvement"

I just dined at the new and improved Garden Grill at Epcot and it is now terrible. It used to be my favorite restaraunt at Disney, now it is no longer family style and has a very small and overpriced menu.

Isn't it horrible, the food now tastes like it comes out of a microwave (TV dinner?) Why would they do this?! :confused3

Did they get a new kitchen? Maybe the ovens are not "broken in." My DH will be upset that GG has changed. No more "all you can eat?" My hubby loved the home-cooked affect of their foods.

Wow.

Does anyone know if they still do the Character Ice Cream Social? Thanks!

I ahven't tried it yet, but have been planning to on the next trip. According to other sites, it is all you can eat...but you have to ask for another plate.

Thanks for posting this, I didn't know they had changed it. In 2000 my whole family ate there and had an amazing meal (and it was near thanksgiving so a special menu too!) so DFi and I had been considering going back in Sept.... we have decided on all but one of our TSs so this could have been the one, now I think we'll give it a miss!

Such a shame.

what items are on the new menu? what did you have? I didn't realize it was no longer an AYCE restaurant.

 :mickeybar Ice cream social is gone. :sad2: That was a great cooling off / character experience and resonable too. We always loved it. When I made my ADR I asked for this and the CM told me about it, she said gone, and they get asked about it all the time. Too bad. I guess the "new" GG is in SO much demand :confused3 it needs more hours? :rotfl2:

The Garden Grill always was yucky in my opinion. There was a rumor about four months ago that they were going to have it become a All American All You Can Eat buffet featuring ribs. I wish they would have done that instead of what they have now.

I wish they had the old menu too. I haven't tried it myself since it's changed but have friends that recently and of course I grilled them on all their dining experiences and they said the food here was not good and they were sorry that they ate there. They're usually not hard to please either.

Funny, people really have different perceptions. We love the new Garden Grill food! We really liked the steak and the chocolate fondue. I think the quality is much better than the food on the old menu.

Javaj thanks for your reply, I was going to ask what people thought of the chocolate fondue addition for dessert because we've done that at other restaurants and my DD loves that so I was thinking of trying the Garden Grill just because of the desert.

I also wanted to ask another question. From what I've heard its still fixed price right? So can you try more than 1 item or do you have to pick one entree?

Does the restaurant still revolve and can you still see parts of the Living with the Land ride below?

is it worth suffering thru a mediocre meal for the fondue? my kids *love* fondue (and so do i! LOL!)... and of course, the characters, but we have other character meals planned so it's not a big deal...

also, it is still all you care to eat, just not family style, right?

It is a fixed price, and we had to choose one entree only.

Yes

When we had dinner there on 5/27, we asked our server and he said we could not order more. I've read other people's posts with different info, so maybe it depends on your server.

I was specifically told by the CM who made our AR this morning that it was "all you can eat". I did not ask, that was the info she offered.
